- @dewalttv invited us to Baltimore, MD for a TOP SECRET meeting. After all the NDAs and Waiver Releases were signed, we met with a group of 20+ others in a discreet location. We had no idea what we were going to see, but we just knew that we had to promise DeWalt (Stanley Black & Decker) that we wouldn't say anything about it until October 25. Once on the bus en route to the even, DeWalt decided to release the reigns and called off the October 25 Embargo. They pulled back the curtains for us to see the new DeWalt POWERSTACK batteries. Delivering up to 50% more power, with 25% less size, and 15% less weight, these POWERSTACK batteries could definitely be the wave of the future. Look for these to hit the shelves in December 2021.

@@sebastianwatts7721 Nah, mostly their new impacts. Those are pretty great, the batteries though, they will come down in price. The flat cell packs always cost a lot more than cylinder battery packs, in any industry.

I'm going to be curious to see how this tolerates extended run times. It's going to be hard for these packets to shed heat.
I will be exceedingly surprised to see high amp hour packs made this way.

these do not get hot like the round cells (18650) , you have to push them much harder to get the same heat.

Think it's safe to say we can have some trust that they did actually test this out considering how long we've been stuck with the typical cells in these things.
I'm definitely waiting to see what they can do in the housing the rough size of the 60v batteries.

I saw your video from the expo. From what others are saying the issue with this new batteries is that they aren't durable as the cell batteries.

Man I'm leery about those flat pack batteries, they are sensitive to over discharge, and too rapid of a discharge or charge for that matter, a fire hazard or even explosion waiting to happen.
They have a built in bms that wont allow them to exceed a certain discharge rate or under voltage and anything to do with the pack. Been using Lithium Polymer for years. Not sure that this is lipo, But I have about 25 of them sitting on a shelf for rc cars. It is some type of lithium based battery I would think
Power tool batteries don’t just lazily send power direct to the tool. There is a computer chip in between to handle all of this and control the flow of voltage during use and charging. They’ve been doing this for many years even with the 18650 battery cells already. It helps to do research before forming an opinion.
To me the battery literally looks like the same size as the 2Ah battery just a different shape. But the power output and runtime is impressive. Also while it may not work for job sites, this battery cell technology could lead to wireless charging of power tools for DIY and home renovation. It would be really cool if you could just set your drill down and have it charge overnight or just toss batteries onto a pad to start charging them.
Want to see these batteries perform on their chainsaw. Especially if they come out with a 60 volt.
These are gonna be hard pressed to dissipate heat, and I don’t recommend putting it into a tool that’s vibrating and moving like a chain saw given the unknown real durability of these battery’s
@@overlordgaming752 they’ve already been tested in a table saw versus a 60v flexvolt battery and drilling into thick concrete and the powerstack either kept up or surpassed in performance. You do realize the phone you’re using utilities lithium ion batteries? They don’t suddenly just catch fire and phones do intensive processing heating up CPUs, GPUs, and RAM with zero exhaust fans or giant exhaust ports like a power tool has. They aren’t going to just suddenly explode and you can be sure Dewalt tested these and used the ability to close the gap and deprive oxygen if a battery failed.
@@PodtrashRadio do you use your phone as a hammer? No. Do people use their tools as hammers? Yes. Is your phone designed to take the force of a chainsaw? No. They are new in this field, it’s not that I don’t trust that deWalt rested thwm, but it is always a risk to be a first adopter, and accident will happen. I don’t know if you remember the whole Samsung’s blowing up in your pocket ordeal but the scar on my hip keeps it fresh in my mind. I will be mindful of the danger these battery’s represent because I know first hand what they can do if mis managed at all in any point of production. Your phone also doesn’t have a GPU by the way, it’s integrated graphics on your cpu. Ram produces next to no heat to begin with, and phone CPU’s are not pushed hard at all, their designed not to. There are no fans or exhaust ports on your battery, so I don’t know why you mentioned that. Next time try being a little more respectful when trying to make a point, especially when you don’t entirely know what your talking about.

I would guess not until most of the current supply was gone. Just like the old 18v nicads. Eventually they'll only be available in blister packs, but I think the power stacks will be what's available separately. These may not be for everyone.
Only time will tell. The deals won't be great when they first drop anyway. I don't see the point of these yet. Older 18650 etc packs work just fine.

I would like to see a 60V PowerStack. That could be a game changer for the next chainsaw I purchase.
This type of batteries have been used in the RC for years. They are super sensitive to cycles charging discharging also if they are drained they could inflate and eventually rupture . Once inflated they fail I am not sure how dewalt has resolved this issues. Also they can never get hot or they will fail on the spot. Since they have no vent system once the battery starts to fail it fails much faster because of the inflation . They do look exactly like lithium polymer batterie. Also when discharged the closed the batterie gets to the cut off voltage it gets more dangerous to balloon. This batteries are also discharge sensitive they have max discharge rate again normally this means that you cannot connect a high drain tool on a small batterie because it can damage the cell with in just one or 2 cycles . So ideally you want to buy the highest capacity batteries from this type in order to prevent this issue and maximize the batterie life. When it comes to charging the faster you charge them the more damage you do to the batterie because they are again heat sensitive.
I doubt they will be on the market by this time next year

It may be a brand-new technology for power tool batteries but I've been using the same type of batteries my RC cars as well as my drones. There's a problem they tend to get hot and swell and since they're very thin a slight puncture can cause them to explode. I'll stay with the batteries that I have that are provided with the drills at this time have no intention on switching to those batteries
I'm not terribly confident Li-Ion is a safe choice to move to from 18650's, I was hoping these would be the Solid state Li-ions which are Very safe, you can puncture them and they do not catch fire or swell. at least in the testing I have seen done with them
I build and race fpv drones.
I'd never store these batteries outside of fireproof box.
I personally seen these catch fire a few time.
They're very needy in terms of balance and storage voltage.
I had a friend who's car burned up because of these.
1 friend lost his house.
Another lost everything on the first floor of his house, the batteries were in a fireproof box but the gasees ruined everything including the drywall
@@SweetStat yep keep mine in the same type of box. Thank G-d never had one blow-up. These guys have no idea the fire they are playing with. Can you see them leaving them overnight charging? Next day boom.
If you go watch the Den of Tools video Autobahn Dan shared a video saying this company was working with Dewalt to make these batteries indestructible pretty much. Haven't found the video. But they are making great strides from what I hear.

Took em that long to do lipos? Hell when i was flying rc planes I modded a drill with a xt60 and lipo cause the nicads died
I’m confused by all of these references I’ve been hearing about these batteries being used in RC cars. I thought RC cars used LiPo batteries in a stack and these were Li-Ion batteries in a stack. It’s made a lot of people comment that these are going to blow up and you need a special charger and you have to charge them in a special bag on comments I’ve read on reviews. These are Li-Ion batteries in a pack or stack instead of a cell right?
Can't wait until it blows up in the tool and you can never get it out of the tool.
SOME OTHER PEOPLE, safety or NOT safety if can be flammable or explosion lithium polymer battery, high temperature why hard to push or press but overload, rapid charging or battery storage but too hot from sunlight,,,,,,, Samsung or LG 18650, 20700 & 21700 cell battery are safety

Those packages on every other battery I’ve seen they tend to inflate and since it’s not contained in a metal encasing I don’t think I’m gonna like them been buying Dewalt for more than a decade but I think this batteries will just be the weakest link on such good tools just sn opinion I haven’t even seen this batteries

Its simple,cells they use now are crap,constant discharge current 20A typical and 500 discharge cycle.Old DeWalt A123 have 50A discharge current and about 1500 cycles.More current more power and if use half of what is battery capable increases lifespan of battery.

Not bad but from what i can see in the picture u provided, what u lose in width u gain in height which may make it harder to fit in tighter spaces. Definitely excited to see milwaukee adapt this technology as well.

They compare these batteries to the basic 2.0ah lithium ion batteries. They also use lithium ion polymer in those batteries which is a volatile battery used in drones and RC cars
DEWALT is 100000 times better than the other main competitor (plus they have better technology).
These batteries not good I having everything dewalt and got these free with a sander and horrible lasted about 7 min I returned the 3 I bought horrible. I will stick with 5 ah.
These lithium-ion polymer gel packs have been used in laptops and mobile phones for years now. Every laptop and mobile phone that I have owned using these packs has had to replaced under warranty due to the packs swelling over time. I think DeWalt made a HUGE error when deciding upon using this technology. I will NOT be buying these batteries until a long, established track record for safety and longevity has been established. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED in DeWalt for moving in this direction.
That depends on the chemistry as well as useage, we have no idea if these are only made possible now due to better battery chemistry or simply an opportunity to increase power density
Dewalt is so terribly bad. Two of the tools in this video is already broken probably.
While not the same, its close to the same kind of technology used in your SSD drives of a computer. I didn't realize they were still using cylindrical batteries in these battery packs. The weight should be noticeably lighter and cooler in your hand. Bout time they started using new tech instead of beating that poor horse.
I do not believe this or the auto industry would be using these let's see how tried these are first
