Dragon Ball back in 1986 was already making international stardom which started in South Korea and China. In 1989 with the start of Dragon Ball Z and the increasing number of sales of the Dragon Ball manga, it already reached Europe, Southeast Asia, and South America. In 1997, it was already the most popular manga and anime series across the globe except in North America. Then DBZ started airing in North America in 1998, we all know that it was the first anime exposure for an entire generation in North America. From that point until today, Dragon Ball is an untouched legendary series that inspired other mangaka and generations. Rest in Heaven, Toriyama Sensei. An icon was celebrated for his contribution all across the world. Thank you Dragon Ball.
Oh nah this comment is straight violence 😂@joegrizzlyyt1073. That's truly a hot take man. Goku may not have had the most character depth or development in the show, but Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan, Krillin, Piccolo and some others definitely had better character development than some Ship's spirit Sprite 😂. Why you trynna do DB dirty like this lol - Amare
Thats irrelevant though. We all know that. And all of us in a certain age range (me being 31) started out with DBZ. Doesnt make it good. There will always be a spot in my heart for it. Trying to power myself up. Thinking it was the manliest shit ever. But when it comes to story, its pretty bland and cannot touch One Piece. TLDR: Dragon Ball was more impactful for the industry. But nothing has come close to touching OP in terms of storytelling. In my opinion of course.
@SantoryuKauboi see you made a good point which is something we also had to discuss in the video of the interpretation of "IMPACT" with that Twitter statement. Mike and I took it as more Impactful on the Community worldwide and during its time even a little whiles back around GT it was still doing numbers and alot of kids knew more worldwide about Kamehameha, turning super saiyan, kaioken, etc. Whereas into today's Era since One Piece had more time to cook and the story continued to develop and we were introduced to more of the world, the cast, and more back stories the Anime itself as for what it stands for in regards to the "Story" I agree has a lot more "Impact" to the reader or anime watcher. I also do feel like there is a shift in eras where for back in the day everyone knew and loved Dragonball. I feel like with the next Generation it is now "Everyone knows and loves One Piece" which if that's true I'm not mad at it. What are you thoughts? - Amare
The presence of an overarching enemy in the world government provides a really nice backdrop to everything in the foreground in one piece, in a way that extra layer simply isn't there in dragon ball. Dragonball still has it's deep and touching struggles here and there though. The relevance of gokus tail. Roshi's teachings are touching and reveal the types of people the characters are. Tien shinhans leaving behind the crane school and his idolization of tao to join the hermit school stands out. Also Goku learning what it means to kill and when it is right and wrong after finding his best friends cold lifeless body and brutally killing Tambourine. These are just a few examples that stick out from dragon ball. Z would be too long. All that said one piece is gas, I'm rereading the digitally colored version now, idk it's close for sure.
Yeah you pretty much nailed it on the head! Like don't get me wrong I love One Piece for it's overall story building and depth behind each and every single character we come across. Like I agreed in the video One Piece has better story writing "Overall", but we simply can't just dismiss the depth and development of all the characters in Dragonball as a whole series. From Goku to Piccolo and Vegeta, for Krillin and Gohan (from two different time lines), as well as trunks too even to Tien and Yamcha as well. There is a lot that each one of characters go through and learn that change their perspective or overarching character for the continuation of the story. Ennies Lobby was a great Arc to show everything Robin went through and just how nasty the Government can be! With that same government now targeting Luffy and his crew....BUT to say that ONE ARC along has more impact than the ENTIRE Dragonbal Series is for sure a hot take in my opinion so I'm glad you see both sides. - Amare
I'm a One piece fanboy, but yeah, DB had way more impact on the industry then One Piece will probably ever have. It created a lot of tropes that other animes including OP have just copied. But yeah, it falls flat when it comes to emotional investment or story depth.
I'm kinda in the middle with this statement but if it is compared with the entirety of One Piece, then One Piece has become more impactful than Dragon Ball.
Ennies Lobby is one of the best pieces of media I have ever seen in my life. Maybe they meant more impactful to the reader, not to the culture as a whole
That's definitely a possibility, but if they didn't mean it that way, what are your thoughts? Do you think Ennies Lobby is more significant to anime culture overall than Dragon Ball Z? -Mike
Absolutely not? From what I'm seeing some people actually seem to give it consideration or see both sides. What makes you so strong on your decision? - Amare
Whole dragon ball vs enie lobby make you guys hard to choose shows how impactful the one arc in one piece i like dragon ball for fight scene everything else go with one piece
I've come to really Love One Piece especially once I sat down and really binge watched it from episode 200 up to the Wano Arc over the past few years. One Piece fot sure has the better world building, emotional impact, and story building but that is because it was given time to cook and slowly grab more and more fans from the community over time which eventually gave it more resources to make the anime updated in art and animation quality. Dragonball over a short span of a few years to less than a decade had more impact on fans and non-fans of the anime internationally. Do you think this take is from more of the diehard fans of One Piece Or is it a mix of some newer fans as well? - Amare
@@ProjectKARMAdragon ball was practically main stream in the west when it was airing one piece just hasn’t reached that yet. And if ur talking impact then dragon ball literally inspired a lot of one piece itself
Thats what Mike was saying in the video too lol! Crazy enough though, maybe it's the new gen of the anime community or realllll die hard One Piece fans, but We've definitely seen some hot takes on DBZ 😅. Why do you think people are even saying this to begin with? - Amare
Nonsense, this video just wanna stir shit. One Piece may be so much deeper in exploring the motivation/goals of the main characters (the whole East blue arc), and without which you would never be so engaged in Water Seven and Enies Lobby arc. So the sums of its parts is greater than the whole. You need to be invested for 300+ chaptersfor Enies Lobby to work its magic. Dragon Ball is always gonna be special to the older fans. The beginning had many characters that was awesome. Oolong (transforming pig), Mechanical Man No. 8 ( the Frankenstein), and Master Roshi hidden powers.. An arc just cannot be compared to a whole series. Oh and if there were no Dragonball, One Piece/Naruto/Bleach might not have come into existence.
It was a take we saw on Twitter so we had to discuss to it to see if the anime community really agrees with this or if it was truly a hot take. That all aside though, I agree that Dragonball for sure paved the way for the likes of Naruto, One Piece and Bleach. Another reason why I couldnt understand how someone could say one Arc had more IMPACT than the entire series lol. -Amare
That statement was mentioned on Twitter and I definitely saw some people either on the fence, give it consideration, or actually agree. Why is it a no for you, just curious? - Amare

I love One Piece but give Dragonball its credit man. Without Dragonball there would be no One Piece to begin with
That has nothing to do with 🤣 were killed dbz for the fights. The going merry had a better character arc then db mc lbr
