Good video! I was born there in 1954. I later worked there from 1971-1973. My kids and I explored the hospital in 2003. Surgery was on 2nd floor, obstetrics on the 3rd. Let me know if you have questions.
It was built in 1958, and was originally St. Mary's Hospital. The hospital was larger at one point. There was a wing of the building (at the back) that was demolished, due to contaminants (mercury, and asbestos).
When I was a OTR truck driver I drove through Cairo IL months before they considered doing something to the dam and flooding the city. I wasn't to impressed with the city at all. Not a place I'd move to.
Cairo Illinois isn't much anymore. At one point it was a very vibrant town. Between folks moving in from the south and the race wars in 68 to 69,then become a place to get easy government help it fell apart. There was many fire bombings, blacks wasn't allowed downtown,it was terrible. Watch I believe it's called a town between two rivers it explains it all. Just sad how the Illinois governor and such just don't care about it. In 2011 they thought about flooding the town to ease the water on the rivers but choose a different spot. They evacuated the whole town. Some came back, many didn't. Just sad.
