  • Artificial Intelligence is taking over the world! But before humans become redundant, I thought I'd experiment and see if some of the most popular forms of A.I like ChatGPT, Midjourney and ElevenLabs could be used to create an entertaining and competently written short story set in the Halo Universe. The results speak for themselves...

What do you think? Did the AI's story pass as being written by a human?

    • @stopper0203

It was a little cliché, and I don't give it a pass for the lore implications... but there were a few golden nuggets, such as the Forerunner device which unlocked the ability to teleport (imagine that as a playable element in game 👀...). The characters were very well written, and overall, I enjoyed what the AI had to offer. I reckon with a little more work to make it more original and unique, as well as make it fit the lore a bit better (not in alternate timeline), then we have a great story on our hands. Overall 8/10.

This is a solid demonstration of how 'AI' generative tools can be used well to produce something of value. These are powerful tools and used well they could well allow for lower budgets and smaller teams to produce really first rate works of art. Like any tool, they will be misused, they will be used poorly, they will be exploited for shlock out of greed. But like all other powerful tools, it is how they are used that matters and there are good uses for them.

The foundation is there, but it definitely reads like an amateur fanfic. Of course, the potential of these AIs is amazing, but for now, I think these tools are best used for reference/kickstarting. Human ideas plant the seeds, the AI waters and fertilizes the sapling, and humans return to prune and refine the plant.

I think this kind of stuff is what AI is leading us towards. AI will be able to generate ideas and be good for testing things. Along with bring in some fan favorite cameos. As an amateur voice actor, AI voices are always painfully obvious to me. They lack proper inflection on key words that should be emphasized for dramatic effect, and have strange timing in certain lines. That being said though, the accuracy of the voices themselves is scary good. Very impressive technology, and I shudder to think what it will be used for in the future once it progresses to a point where it's indistinguishable from real human speech. And on top of that, the way it's able to understand the characters and create dialogue that sounds natural for them is insane!! I'm blown away that it "did homework" on the prophet of truth and the religious aspect of the covenant. I honestly hope the writers of the Halo show are fired and replaced with AI. There's no way an AI would ever write a scene where we see Master Chief's ass. Actually, scratch that. I was pretty worried at the "hulking masculine frame" line, and that could've gone in a very different direction 🤣🤣

    • @Sorain1
      @Sorain1 Рік тому

One thing that's likely to chance voice acting is I suspect there is a wiser business model out there now. Instead of bespoke audio, the creation of a full sound library and then licensing it out to productions might be the way to go. As you mentioned, inflection and timing are the big issues of voice synth systems.
A solid library of moving from all the sounds of speech within a language in a given tone to another tone, perhaps with five or six 'tone sets' could be used to massively reduce those issues. Once you've completed your 'personal library' a company could license it for a project, and contact you if they need some new audio (which you could then also add to the library) such as proper nouns, speech fragments or just additional versions of existing portions.
You could thus license your voice work to be used in a LOT of projects at once at a very minimal expense, effectively turning your talent into a type of passive income. Since you would only need to record bespoke elements instead of all of it and the library would only grow over time, the potential exists for this tech to be used in a manner that's good for all involved. The companies get more high quality voice work cheaper, you get solid income, the consumer gets better quality product.
I'm sure this tech will be horribly misused, like everything else does. (Godrays in GFX come to mind.) But there are exciting options for it to benefit people.

    • @TheSaladKing
      @TheSaladKing Рік тому

@@Sorain1 this idea is terrifying to me, and the problem of inflection and timing would still exist, not to mention certain unique character quirks that would be impossible to get from any prerecorded library. So while it remains a threat to my hobby, there will hopefully always be that human element that can't be recreated. I'm

Just got done with ghost's game night, now to consume more halo content.
Not going to really discus too much, seeing as this isn't an analytical video (and creativity is not my forte). AI is a scary thing, as you pointed out near the end of the video, it can do a lot of harm if used maliciously, which is a valid concern for people who distrust AI technology. However, as I said, AI will only act maliciously if it is instructed to do so. So many possibilities have opened up that can shape society in so many ways that can positively impact so many areas of society. Even in entertainment and media, it can help people such as myself who aren't the creative type or have trouble with starting a creative idea by giving them a nudge in the right direction. For people who are already a creative type and/or are skilled, it can boost them to new hights that I'm sure we're yet to uncover. This could even help people like students study their subjects and provide higher success rates (so long as they don't use it to cheat).
So after that long winded way of saying "It's about as bad as a kitchen knife", I figured I'd ask my own questions to chat gpt, and here's the results:
*Armstrong:* _what is the best halo game?_
*Chat GPT:* _The answer to this question is subjective and depends on personal preference. Each Halo game has its own unique features and strengths that appeal to different players._
_Some fans consider Halo 2 to be the best game in the series, citing its iconic multiplayer mode, introduction of dual wielding and the Arbiter as a playable character, and its memorable storyline. Others may argue that Halo: Combat Evolved set the foundation for the franchise, with its groundbreaking gameplay mechanics, immersive storyline, and introduction of the Master Chief character._
_Meanwhile, some players might prefer the more recent entries in the series, such as Halo 5: Guardians, which introduced new gameplay mechanics like Spartan Abilities and featured an engaging multiplayer experience._
_Ultimately, the "best" Halo game is a matter of personal opinion, and fans of the series have their own preferences based on their individual experiences with each game._

A slightly better conversation will follow here, because I'll be honest, the one in the main comment is moreso for a more casual UA-cam comment kind of excerpt (also, big ghungus comment go brrrr).
*Armstrong:* _what is the most effective way to stop students from cheating using AI chat programs such as yourself?_
*Chat GPT:* _As an AI language model, I am designed to provide information and assistance, but I am not involved in monitoring or controlling student behavior. However, there are several strategies that educational institutions can implement to discourage and prevent cheating using AI chat programs:_
*_1. Proctoring:_*_ One effective way to prevent cheating is to use online proctoring tools that monitor students during exams using webcams and screen sharing. This can deter students from cheating and help ensure the integrity of the exam._
*_2. Change the exam format:_*_ Another way to discourage cheating is to create exam questions that are more difficult to answer using an AI chat program. This could include questions that require critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis, rather than simple recall or rote memorization._
*_3. Educate students about academic integrity:_*_ It is essential to educate students about the importance of academic integrity and the consequences of cheating. This includes providing information about the ethical implications of cheating and how it can affect their academic and professional careers._
*_4. Use plagiarism detection tools:_*_ In addition to proctoring, educational institutions can also use plagiarism detection tools to identify instances of academic dishonesty. These tools can scan students' work for similarities to other sources and flag potential instances of plagiarism._
_Overall, preventing cheating using AI chat programs requires a multifaceted approach that includes technological solutions, educational initiatives, and a focus on fostering a culture of academic integrity._
*Armstrong:* _are there any additional steps that could be taken to stop academic misconduct via AI_
*Chat GPT:* _Yes, there are additional steps that could be taken to stop academic misconduct via AI. Here are some examples:_
*_1. Use AI to detect cheating:_*_ While AI chat programs can be used to cheat, they can also be used to detect cheating. Institutions can use AI to analyze students' online behavior during exams and identify patterns that may suggest cheating. This could include monitoring keystrokes, mouse movements, and other behavioral data._
*_2. Implement strict policies and consequences:_*_ Institutions can implement strict policies and consequences for academic misconduct, including cheating using AI chat programs. This could include suspension or expulsion from the institution, revocation of academic credentials, and legal action in extreme cases._
*_3. Encourage student honesty and self-regulation:_*_ Institutions can encourage honesty and self-regulation among students by promoting a culture of academic integrity. This could include providing resources and support for students who are struggling academically, offering incentives for honesty, and creating a sense of community and shared responsibility for academic integrity._
*_4. Collaborate with technology companies:_*_ Educational institutions can collaborate with technology companies to develop solutions that address academic misconduct using AI chat programs. This could include developing software that can detect cheating or working with technology companies to improve their chat programs and make them less susceptible to cheating._
_Overall, preventing academic misconduct using AI chat programs requires a combination of technological solutions, policy and enforcement measures, and a focus on fostering a culture of academic integrity. By taking a comprehensive approach, institutions can help ensure that academic credentials are earned honestly and that students are prepared to succeed in their chosen fields._
*Armstrong:* _any final thoughts on the topic?_
*Chat GPT:* _Academic misconduct using AI chat programs is a growing concern in today's educational landscape. While technology has made education more accessible and convenient, it has also created new opportunities for cheating and academic dishonesty. Educational institutions need to take a proactive approach to address this issue, including implementing policies and technologies that discourage and prevent cheating, educating students about the importance of academic integrity, and fostering a culture of honesty and self-regulation. It is also important to recognize that academic misconduct is a complex issue that requires a multifaceted solution. By working together, institutions, students, and technology companies can help ensure that education remains a fair and honest process that prepares students for success in their chosen fields._

@@armstronggaming8566 The changing of exam format suggestion might be the hardest to implement, but it is by far the best one presented here. The areas in which systems like ChatGPT are markedly inferior to human intelligence are also the most important ones for education to cultivate. Prior to the advent of such tools it was already known that regular search tools and public databases made basic recall and rote memorization lower priorities. Critical thinking, analysis, and synthesis capacities were already the parts most needed for success in an environment where tools like Google and Wikipedia are commonly to hand. Setups like ChatGPT just exacerbate the issue.
When we need to dig a trench, we don't scoop dirt with our hands. When we need a 10 foot deep trench forty feet long, we don't dig in with a shovel, we get heavy equipment. The ability to figure out the right questions to ask, the way to verify data and to draw meaningful conclusions from information are the most important skills to sharpen in education. Because with the proliferation of automation tools like ChatGPT among others, those are the parts that will need human intelligence to deal with.

Okay seriously why can an AI write a better story than 343 or the tv show writers can? Plz 343 use this technology.

Chief’s one-liners didn’t land imo. I mean a lot didn’t, but it is surprising what the AI came up with. Obviously the AI’s inflection is off as well, but you layering the sound effects over the top helped distract from it.
I also don’t really support AI spoofing the voices of actors that are actively recording bits for people on Cameo. That just feels really gross to me.

Of course Halo can be made by AI, that's been happening for the past 10 years.

Is anyone else bothered by the cheapening of human creativity? I am. Having an AI do all the work cheapens the value of content.

Don't get me wrong, it is concerning. It takes an A.I maybe 30 seconds to do what a person could in 3 hours. But it does open the door for some interesting opportunities. Working with it collaboratively and not relying entirely on A.I to make something, can generate some really cool results. Though in a few years time, that might not be the case.
