    I still need to listen to this one but Yesterday I was on a date and if I put this album on I dont think date would have gone well 😂

    Vibe Metal! Yes. Great way to put it. This album rocketed to the top area of my AOTY list-and I am not one for such quick hype classification. I took it for the car test first and kept looking down at my stereo and saying “Hot damn!”
    I still need to go through your interview series for this album, but, man, what a gift to us all for 2023.
    Great review, Tris!

      Hahaha you know it man! Vibe Metal will be the next big thing. You mark my words haha
      Couldn’t agree more on this rocketing to my AOTY list. I know that you’re very measured when it comes to records but this is just absolutely brilliant. No worries on that, they’ll still be there :)
      Let me know what you think when you do get round to watching them! Oh and also I think you would be a fan of a band called Urne as well. Fantastic band and a truly incredible message too.

      @@TheMetalTris I will dive into Urne today! Thanks, Tris!! \m/@@\m/

    Ontological Mysterium is just something else in the best way. It reminds of me of an amalgamation of the best elements of Human Era Death, Cynic, Voivod, and traditional heavy metal. It shouldn't, and yet Horrendous manages to put all of these elements together in a cohesive way. I love how I showed Neo Leviathan to my wife, and the first thing she says is "That sounds like voivod."

      Couldn’t agree more dude. It is precisely something else. There’s just this sense of the other about it. Human era Death is a great shout as well. All three of those are some of my favourites in the genre so I shouldn’t be surprised why I love it so much haha
      That’s awesome that your wife knows exactly what Voivod sound like! Is she also a big metal head as well??

      @@TheMetalTris She has a very eclectic musical taste. She loves a bit of everything, but mostly she's a throwback to the music from the 50s. I've introduced her to the more extreme genre of metal, and it took some time, but she's become a fan, and she even shows me bands I haven't heard before!

    This band is just fantastic. Absolutely at the top of the whole death metal game right now. (Well, have been for a while, but hopefully they get even more recognition now).

    • @TheMetalTris
      @TheMetalTris  Рік тому +1

      Totally agree. I remember I actually discovered their previous release Ecdysis in an old school way! I was at this little record store called Crypt of The Wizard and they had it playing and I was like. What is this?! Sounds incredible. Ever since then I have been hooked.
      I love this kind of genre of Death Metal. I would say that Voidceremony might be up there too. Carrying on the Death torch - but Horrendous are becoming their own thing entirely. What a band. Thanks for checking the review out!
      Also not sure if you know but I interviewed the band as well, it’s in multiple parts but if you’re interested just let me know!

      @@TheMetalTris That's awesome. I don't think I've heard Voidceremony. I'll definitely check them out. I've seen all three parts of the interview! Big fan of your channel.

      Oh wow! Awesome thank you so much for the kind words and so happy that you checked out all three parts of the interview as well. I edit a lot of this in between getting to and from work so a lot of this is pretty much done when I have a minute to myself but I just love talking about records and bands with people from all over the world.
      There’s just something about it in the metal community that I love! Have you checked out a band called Urne at all? They are fantastic!

    Somehow I missed this video, not sure what happened.
    I've only heard the album twice but am very impressed with how experimental and within their sound it is at the same time :D Great flow and perfect length too.

    Not a band I was familiar with. Giving it a first listen now. Interesting review which appealed to the areas of metal I enjoy.

    Nice rating! Are you one to not put out perfect scores or was there something that held you back from doing that on this album?

    • @TheMetalTris
      @TheMetalTris  Рік тому

      Hey there my friend! Nope believe it or it the one perfect score that I have given this year has been Sleep Token and very close behind it is Horrendous and Avenged. For me, and this is probably due to some of the experiences that I have had recently and this year.
      To make it a 10 I think really has to resonate on some level with you emotionally and I am absolutely not ashamed in saying this but I remember hearing ST for the first time and actually crying. I don’t think I have ever done that with music, from the sheer experience of it alone before. Therefore, for me, it just hit another level. The creativity is fantastic as is Horrendous and LIBAD but for different reasons.
      OM pushes the boundaries of Death Metal once more just like other Horrendous records but LIBAD, for a band of A7X’s magnitude to come out with an album as daring as that, I really commend the creativity in it.
      So long story short I think that was the thing that really pushed it over the edge for me. I’ll be honest I always find rating stuff difficult. I know how much work people put into their projects and feel very dismissive of being like - this isn’t good this isn’t good whereas I prefer to be more constructive rather than dismissive.
      I love questions like this though! It’s what it’s all about. Sorry man it was a bit explanation hahaha

    • @MNmarrow
      @MNmarrow Рік тому

      @@TheMetalTris No apologies needed. I appreciate the background. I hadn't watched the A7X video but now remember how much you loved the Sleep Token album. That said, I get it though - ranking or scoring is so subjective. So much is about mood with music and/or how much it resonates/means to you. Heck, there's albums I love more now at this stage in my life than when I first heard them and vice versa.
      It's funny too because I would give this a 9.5 as well for the same reason you did. Anyways, thanks for the extra time and thought!

    • @TheMetalTris
      @TheMetalTris  Рік тому

      @MNmarrow totally that! There are so many times that I go back and think man I actually really like that now. Perfect example, I first heard the new Sylosis album thought that it was thoroughly underhwelming but now it’s definitely grown on me. I won’t be an album of the year contender but it’s a very solid record and a real great METAL record.
      Scores are so tricky and you’re never going to make everyone happy, least of all on UA-cam haha - I was also toying with the idea of ranking discography’s as well. Would you be keen on that at all?
      Thanks so much for the support! Means the world really does.

    • @MNmarrow
      @MNmarrow Рік тому

      @@TheMetalTris of course! Happy to support and engage. Thanks for doing the same.
      I think the discography ranking could be interesting! It's the best way to really gauge a band's recent output vs. an arbitrary ranking across other bands, genres, musical times, etc. Of course, it's a lot for work to do so by all means, don't add more to your plate!
      On an aside about Sylosis. I got to meet Conor Marshall during the Khemmis/Conjurer/WAKE tour in the states. He has to be one of the most friendly and genuine people in all of metal. He also has such a compelling energy... After watching your interview with him last year, it was exciting to get to know him better as Conjurer is a fantastic band. Now I'll have to finally check out Sylosis!

      I love it so much! Thanks for checking the video out as well, really means the world. I think the biggest thing about OM and Idol is that they are just so different. Absolutely brilliant records both of them but for very different reasons. Idol was so much more moody whereas there’s a real sense of the triumphant about this one! What’s your favourite track on OM?

    • @thenonartist4366
      @thenonartist4366 Рік тому

      @@TheMetalTris I agree! My favorite track from OM is definitely The Death Knell Ringeth, just such a ridiculously groovy track and a perfect closer. Honorable mention to Cult of Shaad'oah with it's Opeth-esque opening riff.
      Great review! Keep it up!
