Thank you for this. I have been thinking about self-portraits for a while. I often wonder why painters have used them so often and sometimes seem to be among their strongest works. Please discuss this further if you can. You are definitely on to something!
There seems to be an unwritten rule that all vids MUST have musical accompaniment. In my view they NEVER help didactic videos. Even the venerated Ken Burns makes this mistake. A musical interlude for visual components, ok. But never a "background" to voice communication. (It's like the speaker is saying, "If you're not interested in what I have to say, then just groove to the music I've selected." No! That's not what I came here for!)
It is a great exercise. As a photography student in the 90s we were encouraged to do self-portraits. What I find most "challenging" is that a self-portrait vs a "selfie", is that to sit for a self-portrait, you need to open yourself up, and not "project" an image, but allow yourself to be found, whereas modern selfies are more like self-marketing and projection.
Well expressed. This has inspired some ideas for a project that I've been looking for a model to work with on............So why can't I be that model?! Thank you.
I thought low volume at first but I just turned it up a bit on the computer and it was fine. A lot to think about and all of it good information especially about getting to know your model and reading how what you want of them to do translates to their feelings. A VERY good video and VERY interesting topic. Good job here. Please continue with your videos.
I take a lot of self portraits mostly because I want to shoot photos and I'm available. Your audio wasn't that bad, I think I was busier studying your face. I did portrait sketches, drawings and paintings for years. You look like you'd be a treat to sketch.
Hey, I just found your channel, and love your work. Your photography is stunning, but the videos are perfect, interesting, inspirational, visually beautiful and very relaxing! Please keep making content!
I really enjoyed this video. It has a very artistic and relaxing feel; it's almost ASMR-like. IMO you did a great job producing it and I encourage you to keep making videos. You're very good at it!
Hi Flora. I love your photos. They have an elegance and softness about them. I've tried self portraits a couple of times but I felt self concious when I was taking them, even though I was alone. You may have inspired me to have another go.
Great video, inspires me a lot... love the ones playing with longer exposures! I'm interested in selfportraits for quite some time but never tried some because I always think it's too ugly and messy here in my home. And that I'm too superficial to get some great, deep ideas for meaningful, artistic photos. Maybe I should just start playing around...
I enjoyed your video very much! As a photographer, I have always concentrated on photographing others and have made a point to avoid being photographed myself. As I am now in my sunset years, I realize that there will be few photographs of me and have begun to take an interest in self-portraits, as I am my own favorite photographer!
I think it is a great idea to try self portraits. I always wanted to try out different lighting, but often my wife or kids are not ready to spend time posing for me :-) I have light meters, flashes and light umbreallas lying unused for years. I think I will give them a good start ! Thank you for the video !!
Good thoughts. I also started photography at a challenging time in my life (going through divorce); howeverr, I started out with photos of my son, who at the time was quite photogenic. Photography gave us an activity for me to do to find peace in the challenges of the situation and for him to take a nap on the days I picked him up from his mom's at about the time his nap should be. Anyway, I am not as comfortable with self-portraits, but I definitely see the value in the points you made and have tried to at least do a bit of self-photo work periodically.
I love this! It’s a great observation of self. I also practiced self portraits before I took photos of other people and it helped a lot. Great video!🌸✨
Hii i am from Argentina. I am actually i want to level up my portrait game, i usually do some self-portrait but posing, faking and stuff. After watching your video i feel inspired to make it more meaningful, intimate just for me not for Instagram. So now i am on the process of understanding myself i will try to capture those feelings on my portraits too. Thanks you so much for sharing your experience with us❤ i loved your photos simple but with a strong impact.
I know there is a low volume issue with the AUDIO, I am SORRY for that!
I'll do my best it won't happen again :)
Thank you for this. I have been thinking about self-portraits for a while. I often wonder why painters have used them so often and sometimes seem to be among their strongest works. Please discuss this further if you can. You are definitely on to something!
I enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work 😊
We still heard you loud and clear🧡😊

I had to stop the video, loud music and speak at the same time, I cannot hear because of tinnitus !

Great topic! I find it really hard to take self portraits and be serious about it. It's a process, I suppose! 😊 Thanks for the inspiration, as always!

Self portraites are easier if you are a modle and a figure others want to see
My volume is maxed and i cant hear you speak.
I love videos like this!❤
💞 *Promosm*
Totally unable to hear you at all, even with a bluetooth speaker turned all the way up. :/
If you saw my face you wouldn't make such a horrifying suggestion.
I hope my ugliness shines through.
No thanks. Any camera I used inadvertantly for selfies I've considered contaminated and sold.
