I have a 1969 XLCH Sportster in excellent condition and it's worth about $14,000 according to the insurance appraisal. Had it been just a little nicer the appraiser said it would have been in the $17-19,000 range. I don't know how much nicer it can get but that's fine since he put a $14,000 value on a bike I have owned since it was given to me by my uncle in the mid 90s . He bought it new and only put 5184 miles on it . It now has 9157 miles on it.
I used to frequent a very rural country store that served beers on the premises outside on the porch. Every week or so a dude with a 69 sportster would come sip a beer, put his helmet on and kick his bike a few times and it wouldn’t start, as he figured. Then he’d sip a second beer, put on his helmet, say goodbye a bit more convincingly, kick his bike and it would start, usually on the second kick. It happened like that every time.
