    as a fellow canadian, i live in new brunswick, when putting everything back together guys do NOT USE anti-seize it WILL NOT work with the salt we use up here, good old fashion wheel bearing grease works wonders! OFC be smart with the grease, some areas antiseize is great like exhaust parts, but for bushings, bolts, and other parts use grease, ive had Cam adjustment bolts for chevy's in the upper control arms where i greased them 5 years ago and every time i do an alightment they move like butter.

    there will always be oil in your subaru intercooler without a catch can. I can tell you I have IAGS air oil separator and I consume zero oil. Yes zero 30k miles on a new motor. Dumping perfectly good oil out of a catch can is kind of crazy. Their oil separator is heated by your coolant system so you don't get the water condensation buildup that you do in a typical catch can it is just good clean oil that drains directly back into your motor

    • @Alexander-sr5fg
      @Alexander-sr5fg 5 років тому

      This. Subaru engines ALL need a catch can or AOS.

    There needs to be something more powerful than PB blaster to help bust that rust! Also, if you guys can't PC the spindles and just blast it, you can spray some coats of Rustoleum Rust Inhibitor on it. I did this on a truck that came from Chicago that doubled as a snow plow and it works well once you get the rust completely off.

    An sti is the best Winter Summer daily driver.
    AWD FTW
    You can paint the underparts with Killrust enamel with a brush, goes on thick and protective, self levels and looks even better than powder coating in my opinion, I did a Suzuki RD350LC frame once, it looked like it had been dipped once it has dried.

    Make sure you take care of the recalls - I have a 2012 I bought new and the thing was recalled twice to rust-proof the rear brake lines running over the gas tank. I'm pretty sure all GRs are vulnerable to those brake lines rusting out. I also have a pending recall for a Takata airbag inflator, passenger side. Dealership says there's no parts available yet though.

    Growing up working on cars in Chicago and now living in Texas I do not miss the rust wow. Thanks for the reminder. Does everywhere in Canada use salt or varies like the states with sand /chemical mixes

    • @lb9gta307
      @lb9gta307 5 років тому +1

      It varies even within Ontario. There's a lot of sand-salt mix used in rural areas but the GTA uses either a brine or beet juice for pretreatment as well as normal salt after the fact. But in Vancouver they don't really get much winter weather at all, mostly just cold rain, so salt use is usually minimal.

  • @emomiles

    Consider performing the clutch pedal bracket reinforcement on the car while its apart. GR's exhibit the problem pretty bad.

    • @emomiles
      @emomiles 5 років тому

      @zeroyon223 There are aftermarket braces which will bolt onto the firewall to help prevent it. Alternatively a permanent fix/preventative measure is to weld a reinforcement underneath the dash. Of course if the damage has been done already, the firewall will need to be welded/reinforced underneath the dash. Again its a known problem with 08-14 Imprezas and even some BRZ's. The GD and earlier models don't have the same problems.

      This is just a car "sitting" for a short time. In Canada they specifically create corrosive liquids that stick to your cars and leech into all the crevices trying to disintegrate you car from the inside out. Seat belts are the first sign of that, ever had "road salt" creep up your shoulder belt strap? I've even seen cascades of salt grime in behind B and C pillars 2 or 3 layers behind the sheet metal, on cars that 3 years old.
