    On #2, Blues players call Bar #2 the "Quick Change" or the "Fast IV."
    On #7, Blues players call Bars 7-8 the "Stormy Monday" progression after the Bobby Bland version.

    Dang... this covers like half of jazz theory (and basically ALL of the important stuff anyway). Excellent job sir.

    It's worth noting that some of the more complex blues sound even better and more emotive when played slowly, rather than the 'bouncy swing' style used throughout this.

    Thank you so much for this. Anyone thinking about buying this should do it. The solos are chock full of wonderful melodic vocabulary and the pdf with the piano voicings is extremely helpful for learning to hear the harmony. I've been working with it for a month or two and it's really opened up my ears!

    Thank you for putting this together. I purchased the PDF.
    I know this was a ton of work, but a couple of requests:
    1) Please do this same thing with rhythm changes. I will also purchase that.
    2) It would be nice to include a list of recordings of songs where those progressions can be found.
    Again, thank you much for your work.

    Brilliant stuff Nick, so very valuable. I played the natural blues for years before dropping the plain G string. This is all going back some years. But I recall being surprised to find that jazz blues changes are actually among the more challenging standard chord progressions. And, maybe this was just me, but I actually had an easier time retaining blues feeling in my jazz playing on non-blues standard changes than on jazz blues changes. I know that sounds weird but I clearly remember thinking that at the time. Anyway, great stuff, cheers.

    I see there are some thumbs down on this video. Why? Because you already know the great knowledge the author presented? Well good for you but for those of us still hungry for the this type of knowledge, or perhaps even a reminder of how it is applied, it is very inspiring. So in the future please give some consideration to those of us who appreciate what this passionate and generous man is sharing to those of us not yet at your level are learning. Otherwise we may see your opinion and pass on viewing. What a shame that would be....

    Thank you!! I've never seen these collated like this before, and it's so incredibly useful to learn and rehearse with. A follow up might be to teach what the various tritone substitutions are substituting for -- eg the turnaround gives a VI7 II7 V7 feel. But then again you *should* get paid for teaching this good so fair enough to leave that in the paid section. : )

    Bud Powell rarely gets any recognition for his contributions. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't he do the same thing for piano that Bird did for the sax and Kenny Clarke for the drums?
    He is my favorite piano player still to this day. If you haven't heard him and you like Jazz (especially bebop), check him out asap. Thank me later.

      @maestrophilkell 4 роки тому +1

      You’re almost right, the sharp 9 IS the same note as the minor third, but a 7#9 chord also has the major third. Rock guitarists sometimes call it the “Hendrix chord”
