- Thursday 14th - Sunday 16th of September saw the Severn Valley Railway hold their annual steam gala with a whopping nine locomotives in operation, demonstration freight trains and the reintroduction of overnight running. The event was scheduled as the last big event at the SVR this year while also being one of the last chances to see Bulleid West Country class 21C127 Taw Valley and the LMS Ivatt 4mt Flying Pig before being withdrawn from service next year for overhaul. The loco roster consisted of five resident locos running alongside four guest locomotives on a very intensive 4-day timetable that also included demonstration freight trains mostly hauled by resident GWR 57xx 7714 and guest Bagnall 401 Vulcan.
One of the biggest features of the gala was the reintroduction of overnight running, which had come to an end a few years ago due to the pandemic.

Fantastic. Love the old steam trains
Very well filmed and edited beautifully.
Friday was definitely the best out of the four. Shame Omaha failed on Sunday.
Cheers and keep up the great work - Alex.
Thank you Alex, really glad you enjoyed it, yeah Friday had the best weather, I did hear about Omaha, that was a big shame, glad I was able to be there before she failed.
Nice Footage there. Especially with the S160 love the whistle at clip 10:30
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, I do like the whistle.
USATC S160 "Omaha" is one of my favorite steam locomotives and I'm so happy that it still runs to this day in good condition. Many thanks from USA 🙏🇺🇲
Glad you enjoyed the video, she does look really good in the red livery, very unique amongst her siblings in the uk. She still has a good few years until her new overhaul so there’s plenty of time to see her in action.
I was lucky to catch the s160 on Friday before she failed two days later
Funny so did I, unfortunately I kept missing her on the Saturday just due to the different train I was travelling on or filming.
It’s confirmed that the S160 is staying until the next years winter steam gala
Oh wow, that will be cool, hopefully she’ll be running for the Spring gala as well.
6:23 there that’s me I saw you
You must have very good eyes. Hope you enjoyed yourself.

why is the s160 staying another year surely the svr have got enough locos, this loco should be at paignton and dartmouth rly where they need powerfull locos,
I’m not 100% sure, but Taw Valley and the Ivatt 4mt are due to be withdrawn from service in January next year so I think it’s here to act as a temporary replacement.
