- Looking at the news now, this earthquake was big and fortunately, we were quite a distance away from it. I can't imagine what would happen to my tanks if that large a magnitude were to hit us. My prayers to all that were affected by this disaster.

Glad things are ok for you. I experienced an earthquake in Alaska in the 80s and my 55 gal was a rocking and banging against the wall. Scary feeling when you have no control

Thanks for the update and glad you're ok. I just woke up here and saw the news and thought of you and all the other people possibly affected. Growing up in California I know that earthquakes are a part of life. Good job thinking ahead on how to better secure your tanks and CO2 bottles. The plastic lids can be weighted down. 3/11 all my glass lids on my aquarium broke. Luckily, my tanks were aligned in such a way that the wave of water moved lengthwise down the tank and I didn't have a lot of water splash out of the tank.

I live in the pnw of the U.S. and theres earthquakes here occasionally. Im terrified of it happening. I need to secure the rest of my stands to the wall. Were all of yours properly secured to the floor or wall? Also what magnitude hit your area?
My area was a magnitude 4. Yes, my tall racks are secured to the wall.

Pat yourself on the back for building some strong wooden stands for your tanks and not using some ghetto cinder block stupidity like you see on a lot of youtubers use- might of came into a different situation. After spending a lifetime on the west coast USA where earthquakes are like every other day you'll learn quickly if your design is good or not.

Thank god everything is okay. I am in Southern California and this fear was just recently brought back after a small jolt. I remember several years ago, we had a small earthquake and I looked over at my tank and there was a little bit of a tidal wave sloshing back and forth across the tank. Can’t imagine what it was like for Californians during the 1994 Northridge earthquake

I had the same thing happen back in 2018 when we had that 7.1 earthquake here in Alaska. The pet shop I worked at sold out of aquariums almost immediately afterwards. My tanks at home were fine (lost a couple gallons, the lid fell in on one), but we lost five tanks at work. We were picking up dried feeder guppies in random places for weeks.
That’s the scary part about earthquake country. Since then I’ve added tarantulas to the mix. That might end differently. 😩. So glad things are alright for you!
