    That the discoverers of the Domus Aurea felt they were in a "grotto'" and from that came, more or less, the word grotesque, first for the style that you showed, and then for the continued use of that word (for better or worse) absolutely FLOORS ME!
    It's like a huge, significant piece of knowledge was finally plugged in. Not to mention the relationship of Fabullus with Pompeii and maybe even Oplontis and Herculaneum, but also the Renaissance artists starting with Rafael.
    Well, I am impressed with the excellent narratives I have heard from you, in this video, and in my original viewing of the NeoPythagorean Basilica you recently published.
    VERY COOL, Elyssa! Very cool! Thanks!

      Thanks so much for your kind compliments. I'm glad you are enjoying some of my videos. I love all this Ancient Roman history, if you haven't noticed, and I love sharing it!
      I agree, I think the story of the Domus Aurea is really fascinating, not to mention, fundamental for understanding Renaissance art! In fact, so much of what we love about art and architecture today can be traced back to the Ancient Romans! Truly astounding.
      Thanks for taking the time to let me know you enjoy the content!

    Wow. I'm writing my master thesis on the Domus Aurea and you managed to show wall paintings I had never seen before in my research.
    And saying the painter's name was Fabulous ... I mean, it's a nice joke, but it's not pronounced like that.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  2 роки тому +2

      Every time I visit the Domus Aurea, they have new things to see (and sometimes things we saw previously are no longer available), as they are constantly working on it, as I am sure you know!
      Yes, I know that is not how Fabulus' name was pronounced but I think it makes it easy to remember, so I took a little poetic license. :)
      Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment on my video!

    Enjoy your content but I have a suggestion I hope you’ll consider. While the printed captions you bring add helpful information and detail, they are rarely left onscreen long enough to be read in a relaxed manner. And even when I speed up my reading to get through the info, there is no chance to see what is showing onscreen at that time. Slowing things down quite a bit when the captions are being used would be greatly appreciated!

    • @Romewise

      Thanks for watching. Yes, you should book this in advance. Space is limited and they usually book to capacity. Consider they only go 3 days a week, and they only allow so many people inside at a time. It's also very popular so the bottom line is, you should book in advance.

    Good but tour guide is hopeless, talked too quick, hard to hear, and one of the worst English accents is almost impossible to understand. Audio guides would be better.

    • @Romewise
      @Romewise  10 місяців тому +1

      Unfortunately, sometimes a guide can be hard to understand. It really just depends on who you get. I've had some wonderful guides at the Domus Aurea, but I once did have a guide like you described. It's still such an amazing place and even with a guide who is less than ideal, I enjoy the history and the space itself.

    Learning on the architecture and its concept of "golden mean" from Greek Philosophy of Aristotle, so many lessons and awakening have swiftly reached me. Obviously I'm moved and encouraged to study more of this.
