Sakya monastery has thousands of ancient Buddhist literature in Sanskrit from India. Monastery began around 10 AD. This monastery has one of the biggest libraries in the whole of Tibet.
You are very lucky to having Tashi as your guid, he explain very good. His holiness 10th panchen-lama is one of the high lama like His holiness the Dalaï-lama for Buddhism specially for Tibetan people.

The big statute inside Sakya monastery is not that of Sakyamuni Buddha but that statue is of Maitreya Buddha (the future Buddha). You you never see a big Padmasambhawa statue inside a Sakya monastery.
