This is THE Johnny Marr 355, the one that inspired Bernard Butler and Noel Gallagher to become musicians!
Johnny Marr’s was an ES-355 Stereo version with the Varitone as is Bernard Butler’s both with the Long Guard. Noel’s was a Stereo with Varitone. In fact Noel had 2, one with a Long Guard (which Liam destroyed and now is owned by some French Dude) and one with the Short Guard.

Killer guitar!!!! Love the 'watermelon red'!
I actually like the Varitone circuit ; position 5 - with just the slightest hint of overdrive - gives that great 60's Gretsch tone, without having to change guitars to a slightly less familiar neck. The BB King "Lucille" model actually addresses the Varitone / stereo cable issue by providing 2 input jacks, one for strictly mono out put and a 2nd to add the stereo effect. The most incredible thing about that guitar though is like the Les Paul Custom & SG Custom, the 355 has that same amazing neck and fingerboard, very fast and very comfortable. I've had a mono 355 and still have a mono CS-356 (same guitar, smaller body) but I want the stereo / Varitone version... That's my "Holy Grail" of guitars.

so sweet , man those PAF's are the shit , if you want blood , you got it. Watermelon red isn't so bad , I generally hate red but this is ok. That is a super hot guitar , looks good , sounds great , and no stereo out , classic axe , not sure it's better than ANY strat but it's sweet , great set Mark

What an amazingly clean example of a Gibson from 1959. I know a guy who owns one almost identical to that, apart from its being slightly darker in color, a true cherry red. His is also from 1959.

@@nikolaibarbarich7887 . . Hey Nik. I have a confession to make right here: My short term memory is bordering on amnesia. I don't remember even posting the comment with my name on it!! I remember your name, but if you could remind me of what we talked about, that'd be a big help. It's always good to keep in touch with people after all.
Recently I was assessed by a geriatric (Yeah, I know, right?) doctor who gave me the welcome news that I probably don't have dementia, thank God!! It's the result of my excessive exposure to the raw materials that go into making car paint, including the deadly lead chromate, which I used to often go home from work covered in it from all the leaky bags we had to handle. That plus all the medication I have to take these days for the severe nerve pain, all adds up to my not remembering hardly anything and being unable to even process the passage of the days!
I hope you're well and have been able to dodge the COVID bullet. So far, so good here, thank God.
I'm good as far as keeping well goes. But I haven't been able to play guitar since November 6th last year when i took to the stage at the Freedom Concert, a one day music festival, and my left hand wouldn't cooperate with my brain! It's a nephropathy issue caused by every disc between every vertebrae in my neck being damaged or worn or compressed, which in turn is pinching off the nerve supply to my hands. I can't even twirl spaghetti on my fork, or use a knife and fork properly, and sometimes out of sheer frustration I eat my dinner with my fingers! Good thing I live on my own, I suppose . . LOL. I'm thankful that I'm as good as I am, all things considered.
I gotta try and sell off the majority of my guitars that are in storage, God help me!
@@arthurblackhistoric haha that's all good. We were talking about guitar shapes and you were telling me about your Sheraton. Also , spoke about your work injury that happened a few years. We also spoke about your old jobs doing truck driving in queensland. I checked out some of your videos and stuff. Just wondering how everything has been and hope that youre well.

@@nikolaibarbarich7887 . . Ha ha . . Looks like I already answered that. I've been binge-watching all the weightlifting at the Commonwealth Games this week. Really exciting to see how the sport is taking off so much around the world, and particularly in Commonwealth countries, so much so, unfortunately for us, that Australia is no longer the dominant Commonwealth weightlifting country. You find that in every country where professional football exists. The same physical attributes that make a good footy player also make a good weightlifter, strength, speed, and coordination. But it's the mindset that separates us from them. The whole team mentality, where all the footy players wanna do is play footy, shower together, and hang out afterwards, is the very antithesis of what makes a good weightlifter. The loner, the guy who'll willingly train on his own and make time for it no matter how busy or otherwise occupied he may be; the guy whose most implacable opponent is his own limitations . . That makes a weightlifter!
@@arthurblackhistoric well I suppose the footy attributes would be helpful, but are we talking AFL or Rugby? There are some similarities between the sports except rugby players are underpaid compared to AFL players. How I'd everything going in the sunny state of QLD? I hope those floods didn't get near you or anything. Hope all is well

@@anthonyc1883 I'm just kidding...I know he uses that joke all the time. It's true. I have a few 1959 345s and I agree position 3-6 sound like shit. But it's quite easy to "Mono" a 345 with a cable and not nearly as difficult as he's suggesting when trying to sell a Mono guitar 😂

Yeah that's pretty juicy. Nothing wrong with the stereo varitone. Just solder a stereo jack plug on you mono lead and then job done. Yes it is better than a Strat

Unlike some commenters, I didn't notice the background. I was looking at the guitar and thinking "Is the reason I like to look at Fenders as electric guitars that Gibsons try to look like they are still acoustic in some way?"
Gibby made it's bones making acoustics, mandolin, ukes,then archtops and thise harkened back to violins and cellos but yeah my sg and flying v and exploer do remind me of , no wait ...hey did you not even see those...
