I'm so grateful that I came across your channel. I had lost hope with fixing up my home. I'm low income and I'm a single mother of three daughters. One with autism. The oldest in college. Thanks! Great advice and love all your videos. Renovating a bathroom and started with the paper tape because the "anti mesh" crowd videos I watched. I got humps and bubbles. Took it off, scraped off all the paper tape, sanded and primed with Kilz. It was only two short seams but still a PITA. Lesson learned. Got the Fiba Fuse and will be using it going forward. It is a tiny bathroom but this is my first real experience with a start to finish drywall job. Mistakes were made but that is how you learn. Hands down you have the best tutorials. They cover the fundamentals and are current. I was racking my brain searching the interwebs about drywall to backer board transition with a corner bead. Your video was extremely helpful. You are a credit to your craft.

HI Paul, I switched to the Fibafuse a couple years back. I switch my paper taper this past year to Strait-flex in my corners. I like both better than paper. I acutely had my first fail with Fibafuse. I think it was due to the heat, or lack there of. It blistered when I primed it, only on the ceiling. They have not installed the heat yet, so I run 2 portable heaters while I am there, 1 on an extension cord. So I can only run 1 at night, due to having 1 circuit live in the area. The temp is in the 60's when I am there but dropped into the 40's a night.

I feel like a bit of a fool for not thinking of it myself, but better a smarter fool than just a fool. Your idea for "sloppy rerolling" or "folding over" the mesh drywall tape was brilliant and soooo simple. I fold over regular tape, literally, so I can find the end. But I always have to cut the foldover. The mesh tape is all that much worse. What a great idea to just leave a little slop over the side so you can grab that (like when using blue painters tape). What a great idea.
Thank you for taking the time to educate others. Especially when it is on how to do it **right**. Sorry about them, but the only thing I can think about the people that down vote your videos is that they are jealous. You can give them a million dollars and they will bitch about now having to pay so much tax. Almost every one of your videos is usually helpful to me and I am 20 years experienced in remodeling.
I tend to use hot mud a lot, and never have had an issue with cracking on mesh tape with bucket mud, but now I know mesh is really for hot mud or when seaming cement board. Maybe my stuff cracked after 15 years.
There are more hybrid tapes. Like paper with holes to bed better. I use that over plain paper but it is more expensive. On ALL the crappy tape jobs I have had to scape and retape, they always used paper and bedded too thin. I would guess with not enough mud behind the tape as well. I just know I have to peel it all off and redo what would have been so much easier to do right the first time.
I am the kind of nut that uses Durabond hot mud on the seams. Then hot mud bed the tape after the Durabond hardened. Put another layer on (often hot mud but not always), then hot mud skim coat the wall for the best appearance. Although I do cheat and use bucket mud on skim because it is less hassle. I think hot mud actually sands with less dust though. After priming I will go back and fill whatever small imperfections are left so I have a flawless wall. It is a lot of extra work though.

I'm a drywall finisher and one of the cons with the FibaFuse that many people may not know is that it is bad about cracking in the winter. We almost exclusively finish new construction, and have had houses that aren't climate controlled in the winter crack at the joints with the FibaFuse. It's great in summer months, but not so much in the winter. My theory is that the pre-mix mud taking longer to dry in the winter as opposed to summer is what does it, for whatever reason. We went back to the paper tape bc of the cracking in the winter.

Just wanted to contact you regarding Fiba Fuse tape and you were spot on.
Flat taping repair areas is unbelievable, it just disappears but don't see how it can be used on inside corners.
I'm old school like you 25+ years of doing this.
I may buy a new banjo for fiba fuse and keep my old reliable for paper.
Just finished a small commercial project with lots of patching and fiba fuse was amazing...still a learning curve but just an amazing product.

we built a few houses recently and one of the subs used fibafuse in the corners and also on the seams. the corners have shown tear marks after a year in a few rooms. the rooms that were paper taped in the corners are fine. that fiber tape shreds apart tooo easily in my opinion for corners.

Paper for corners. I was checking out the fibafuse tape and was surprised how easily it pulls apart, not much stronger than a paper towel. I wonder what the shear strength is between the 3 types of tape. My money would be on paper.

Remember to crease the paper tape as you go. Do not roll out the length then crease it, it will curve. I always apply the mud in the corner, place the uncreased tape into the corner and use the mud knife to push the crease into the corner and you won't get any ripples

Mesh tape is made so mud can go through it. Mesh tape fails on a wet surface, the adhesive will not stick and odds are it will detach. Use Fibafuse and you'll throw mesh tape away.

    • @PaulPeck

    • @andrewssd

@@krisone63 mud goes through mesh yes, but ever notice air bubble coming through on the gaps. This trick is for gapped areas only. And fibafuse is super good and easy to use and very easy to remove on repairs. Just mentioning to people who still have a full roll of mesh. Lol. I've always had a hard time removing mesh tape on a repair. That stuff just give me a hard time every repair job so I know it works too.
