    Great video! I’m in you subscriber just found your channel. I’m very interested in GRMS although I don’t do any four wheeling, but it would be cool to do that. I live in Phoenix, Arizona of course not in the summer. Anyway I just can’t believe that these companies don’t create software that will work on a Mac, I’m a Mac user as well.

    Business Band Radios are gone. They are expensive and information can can be delivered by cell phone. Here in Iowa farmers and construction are using GMRS radios talking between tractors, combines and construction companies talking between trucks. The company that makes a plug and play, good audio, dirt proof, radio that can be installed and ctcss dcs set by the stupidest bubba has something that will sell. People will pay bigger bucks for a radio that can be made work. Midland would be smart pushing these radios at farm shows, RV shows, and car stereos shops. There is a side hustle someone installing these radios professionally hooking them to a good power source, hiding wires, and tuning antennas.

    Can you do an update video on how you have liked it since this vid in Jan. when you put it in and any pros and cons you have found? Would you still get it again or go with something else?

    What you said near the end about having to use Midland's special chart to figure out how to program the correct DCS codes turned me against this radio. Also, if I'm understanding you correctly the default bandwidth setting for this radio is set for narrow instead of wide. And Midland STILL refuses to make a repeater capable handheld radio to boot. Because of these things they won't get my money. But your review is good because this isn't your fault.

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  2 роки тому +2

      The chart thing was no big deal, that and changing everything to wideband was a trivial inconvenience. Why they don't make a good handheld is simply mind boggling though.

    For the money, I would expect a better product overall.
    Color graphic display
    Controls and basic display on the hand mic.
    Superhet front-end
    Bandscope
    Easier on-board programming (perhaps a keypad on hand mic)
    Midland is a big and bulky company and those expenses are passed on to the consumer. The bang for the buck is therefore not great.

    Man I can’t get over the price for what you can get vs a ham radio as far as features for the price (yes I have both gmrs and ham licenses). Cool radio but that price seems a bit much for me

    You might consider a virtual box on your Macintosh, and you can have Windows on your Mac, when you NEED it.

    I got this radio. The nmo antenna is cool. But kinda sucks where I live. I'm waiting in the alamosa rugged antenna (aussie style) to come in stock

      Check out our video about the Radioditty GM-30 radio. Get people switched to GMRS with cheap handhelds and eventually they will want a built-in unit with more power.

    I’d I have a MXT115 hard wired in my auto does the new MXT 500 use all the same connections so I can just unplug everything g from the 115 and then just plug my existing wires and power into the 500 ?

    Can you use the ghost antenna with this unit.

  • @zacharylitgen2935
    @zacharylitgen2935 2 роки тому

    Could've got the unit down more if you got the right hardware or grind down the bolt past the nut.... Also, GMRS really lacks any sort of distance even with 50w. Lastly, antennas do make a difference (the biggest actually), but longer or bigger doesn't necessarily because of the frequency wave. If people are actually looking for good communications without the lazy way out, go ham!

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  2 роки тому +1

      Define "lacks any sort of distance" please. HAM is not significantly better at the same wattage. Why should someone have to spend 2-3x the money on a HAM radio if they simply don't need it? GMRS has never not done what I have needed it to do.

    • @bobdillashaw4360
      @bobdillashaw4360 2 роки тому

      Dude it’s uhf, not much different when compared to a single band uhf “440” ham radio, although the price of this midland is significantly more than a 440 ham radio. Come on midland, you can do much better with that price.

    • @TrailTraveler
      @TrailTraveler  2 роки тому +1

      @@bobdillashaw4360 It's certainly at the high end of the price point. The one redeeming thing it has for me is the IP rating. The Jeep gets hammered with fine dust which has killed two previous radios. Would I put this into my Subaru which stays pretty clean inside? Probably not since there are cheaper 50w radios available.

      I would agree on the over priced part , ive been using icom f221 radios for the last 15-20 years or so and it does all the same stuff and it has front firing speaker and software was included at the time and was less than $500
