Music is a beautiful, universal language that transcends pretty much all other forms of communication. Therefore, I couldn't agree more on the dissection of that first "hot take" :) People should never, ever be "gate-kept" from enjoying, and giving their honest opinion on a musical arrangement. To be frank: I actually prefer people's reactions who have _not_ seen a movie or played a game (yet), for the simple reason being: they go into it completely unbiased, which makes for a much more genuine experience on both ends. And with you, my good sir, I can tell that you're very passionate about the craft regardless. This is why I subscribed to you in the first place.

I think if I were to do reactions, I'd make my first pass unpaused, then make a second pass pausing to share thoughts whenever relevant.
Though that probably isn't best here IMO, it's more fitting for video content I feel. Nor is it necessary at all, just something I'd try to improve the format.

You really should understand why people generally even watch reaction videos. Many of them just want a substitute for a person to watch together the thing they like. And whether they like that you pause or not depends on charisma, acting and ability to captivate with your speech. Internet is full of parasocial people.

Hearing someone with deep knowledge of music as both an art and science deconstructing a piece I know is the one form of reaction content I'm always eager to watch. Even when it's a song/track I've heard a thousand times, I always walk away with more knowledge and appreciation for it. The most interesting and entertaining ones are always when someone reacts with no knowledge of the source material because their analyses are sometimes scarily spot-on to what the music is used for in-context, purely based on what they gather from listening.
As for recommendations, this time I want to mention some from a different Touhou game than before: the 16th one, Hidden Star in Four Seasons.
A Pair of Divine Beasts (Komano Aunn's theme)
The Magic Straw Hat Jizo (Yatadera Narumi's theme)

When I'm here, I'm here for you. I'm also here to share music with you, but also to appreciate your interpretation and appreciation of what you hear. Would I say you 'have to' play the game before you talk about the music? No, although honestly I can see as where some might take that stance. People that have played the game and heard the music for the first time during that tend to have a different emotional connection to that music. It's no greater nor lesser than your experience if you haven't played. It's simply more specific. Hearing Aerith's theme is beautiful - hearing it for the first time while you played the game can hit differently.

Some of these takes are dumbfounding...
I personally love seeing someone react to games, music, or movies, to comprare the reaction to the one I had and see them experience it for the first time. It is very fun and is one of the reasons even though I am a physician I still teach in a residency program. Seeing someone's reaction to understanding something and having his or her mind blown is awesome. Your reactions to music are some of the best on youtube and the only channel on music reaction I watch. Some other channels interrupt waaaay too long (for my tastes) and then I dont hear the song at all and miss out on the experience (or the video becomes way too long for just 1 song). Your balance is near perfect IMO. Happy New Years!

19:12 This reminds me of Christoper Walken’s iconic accent (I guess accent is the right word?) His parents wanted him to learn English first, and made it a point to speak it around him. English wasn’t their first language, so it led to them taking long pauses in their speech, trying to find the right words. This in turn, led to Walken learning to speaking English with those pauses.

No way! I guessed that the background music might be yours and I was right! (Awesome music btw)
Since you are looking for more soundtracks, I would recommend you the Subnautica soundtrack.
About the game: In Subnautica you play as a lone survivor of the crash of the ship Aurora from the Alterra corporation. It starts off slow with you collecting various materials and minerals in the shallow water, but as time goes on you are forced to explore deeper waters for blueprints from ship fragments and data from many alien laboratories. The deeper you go, the more dangerous (and the bigger) are the creatures that you will encounter. Thankfully you'll be able to navigate the murky water relatively safely in diverse ships.
About the soundtrack: Most of the tracks are very ambient, and they differenciate from another like the biomes or scenes that they play in do.
    My personal recommendations are:
    -Abandon Ship
    -Leviathan
    -Red Alert
    -Salutations (Main menu, introduction)
    -Islands beneath the sea
    -Lost River
The first three are more intense and the rest is ambient. I hope you'll see this and maybe even make a video to Subnautica, as part three of it is up and coming next year!
    PS: Love your vids!

SPG's First Point reminds me of HEALTH. An AMAZING band that does their own original Noise Rock music and collaborated with some of the best music artists out there today. They produced and composed the music for Max Payne 3 - if you're reading this right now SPG please do an in-depth review of the Max Payne video game music scores and see how unique HEALTH's sound is.
Their song TEARS without context is a beautiful standalone electronica/noise rock song that's definitely a club banger. But with the context of Max Payne's story, the Airport Shootout Finale it is one of the most emotionally charged send-offs to a beloved character and the theme of his tale. Being there in context IS definitely the icing on the cake.

The idea that you have to watch the original source to listen to the music in it is awful. All music should be able to be listened to by all people. Yet I've listened to the DMC5 soundtrack on repeat so many times. Another one I listen to all the time are the God Of War scores. I listen to the music from all of those games so much but I've never touched the games, only watched videos

I think some games you have to listen to the musics before playing, you maybe don't like the genre or the art, but when the music is so good you know you have to play that game. I have played DOOM, MGR, all DMC, Persona 5 and Yakuza just because of the OSTs

Do I have to play the game to be "allowed" to like the music? NO - I absolutely agree with your opinons here! Keep up what you´re doing! My advice is keep it up. Haters gonna be haters. Nothing you is wrong. Remember this thing till the end. When you succeed in something, there will be some people will hate you for it. The reason is simple. They cant get to the same level like you did. That is the sign that prove you are successful in your own way. But if you feel down know that you have climb up so far and high for you to quit and drop down way back to the beginning. You are awesome. I have seen 2 vids of yours and I know you can go far

Learn to appreciate music without understanding it.
In meaning and emotional perspective sure, but the musicality, melody, chords, the well-written counterpoints etc. doesn't suddenly change. If it was already good music to begin with, it remains great music. And as a musician usually concerned with musicality deep-dives, that's all I need. If I understand the "narrative" or emotional meaning behind it, it's a nice bonus.

Some people spend WAY too much time and energy to be negative. "oh but [this person] is better" okay, go listen to that person instead? What difference does it make to come to someone's channel just to say that? "don't play violin" bruh. What do you think "string" stands for? Also don't tell people what they shouldn't do in their own channel, if you don't like it then just don't watch the videos. "you should play the games" I'm sure the people saying this think that they're having a big brain moment while completely failing to realize that people can enjoy the music from a game while not having played the game before. And they DON'T have to play the game just because they like the music. Some people just can't be pleased, I swear...

I'm unsure where to request music but, I'd like to request the a reaction to the new layer music for Ultrakill (layer 7-1 to 7-4) by Hakita
I enjoy listening to your takes and your duet to each piece. Especially your addition to Tenebre Rosso Sangue (by Keygen Church and Hakita)
I'm also unsure why people want you to not pause, I'm presuming they want a 'live' reaction instead of your usual format.
I played & listened to many of the Ultrakill soundtracks and I loved your reaction and some similar styles I've either never heard of or never knew.

I still feel like you'd really enjoy actually playing Deep Rock Galactic. Solo is perfectly fine, and pubbing is generally more enjoyable in this game due to the majority stellar public community cultivated by the game's ingeniously positive design. Running solo, you'll also get to experience the wonder of exploring the quaint, breathtaking landscapes that can sometimes be hard to believe were procedurally generated. At some point it becomes very immersive despite seeming very silly. There's definitely a steady progression grind there that you'll enjoy, too. Overall it's a game that also just really, really respects your time investment without abuse.

while I agree you dont need to have seen the context to appreciate the technical merit of a song, context absolutely changes one's understanding and appreciation of a piece of music.
I mean, take a musical for example. how important is a leitmotif when you only hear it once? can you appreciate the journey the song represents when its akin to opening a book halfway thru? sure, you can appreciate the technical aspects like the prose or the tone, but could you appreciate the story the characters have gone thru by that point?
music is one of many channels a story is told in, and its fair to say that by missing out on some of the channels you miss out on important pieces of the artform.
of course, this is not to say that you have to get the context, you can still analyze the technical work as you said, but to say "the context doesnt matter" is almost a slap in the face of how art is constructed. the brushstrokes may be beautiful, but that doesnt mean the colour is unimportant.

    • @StringPlayerGamerOfficial
      @StringPlayerGamerOfficial  5 місяців тому

Intended context has limited reach. Songs and pieces can outlive their original usage. In fact, lots of you have commented some great examples already in this thread. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxNB_eFNcZWnzLVOXVT5MNBFSzkNFTrdIm
And in this case, the song's original context, whatever it was referring to in its film, has been forgotten, and only the music lives on. Case to case basis of course, but great music simply has the tendency to do this.

Sorry if I missed this question in this video, but are you willing to react or just listen to rhythm game music?(Not those anime character theme ones since you said you are not a anime person) I'm talking about games like Cytus or Deemo.
I'm asking because there are two songs from Cytus2 that I'd like to watch you react to, and they're also specifically made for the game in my knowledge. So I think it's a good time to leave this comment after watching this video.

While musics that are more famous are used in different game(collaboration and etc.), and I don't really have much knowledge on which ones are native, CHAOS and V from Cytus2 are made for the game (and are about the same character).
Maybe you can make a poll to ask people about some other good choices, and glad that you also enjoy rhythm games!
