An itchy-footed meerkat who hitchhikes to Bath, a giraffe without a working permit, a hyperactive ostrich, a territorial gorilla, a confused lion, a forgetful baboon and a lazy hippo reveal life behind the perimeter fence.
Nick Park’s Creature Comforts took the classic documentary style and applied it to the lives of wild animals and pets, matching a cast of clay characters with human voices to charming effect. Originating from Nick’s 1989 Academy Award®-winning short film, Creature Comforts was unique for using unscripted vox-pop interviews with the British public in a stop motion series that has become an Aardman classic.
The success of the short film led to two TV series, which broadcast on ITV, and an iconic series of commercials for the Electricity Board’s ‘Heat Electric’ campaign. Creature Comforts also went across the pond to the USA where the unique format was used once again to tell real-life stories from people in America. The claymation characters portray very human traits and contemplate absurdities of the universe such as, ""Do bald eagles ever feel self-conscious?"" and ""What makes pigs feel sexy?""

I'm grinning and appreciating that one meerkat that just stares at the camera while everyone else is either talking or doing different poses.

I just absolutely love these sketches, I've been laughing my head off since the first minute of the first episode, all those years ago, I'm really glad they're back with new ones, big fan, highly recommend it for a pick me up, if you're down, watch any of the Creature's Comfort and your mood will change, guaranteed ! ❤ 😂😂😂😂😂
I can watch these Creature Comforts over and over again and still see something I hadn't noticed in the background. Totally hilarious and cheer me up after a bad day. 😂
This is one of my favourite episodes, the hyenas are so funny.
The stag in the park setting reminds me of the deer from Woburn who hang around outside the zoo.

All the same, I love this series, and a bit of me wishes I'd been part of the recordings, I reckon being Australian that I'd look alright as a Kangaroo or something :P
It would be tremendously on the nose funny to be some kind of snake. A lot of people look at me and thinking it must be a struggle to not be able to walk, I feel worse for people who used to be able to walk, and now they can't do it anymore. I don't miss walking, because I never have. But, it's difficult for others ( more difficult for others, I should say). Me, I was born like this.
I am always cold. It's one of my biggest struggles. Having to get somebody to warm up your water, you know, when you're in the shower. Or sometimes I like to put some kind of warming device in your bed, so sometimes I get people to do that for me, and you don't want to be demanding. But at the same time, you have to have somebody do it for you, and, they don't always think that it's worth it. So you have to convince them. The bottom line is, you know, you have to treat the people who care for you with the utmost respect. You depend on them so much, so the last last thing you want to do is hurt them in some way, or scare them off in some way. That has happened to me once or twice, but I'm better now. I hope.

just imagine how much effort is put into the characters
These were so great. I wonder how many hours upon hours of audio they had to sort through to get the perfect lines to animate. I would think that many of the interview answers were too 'human' to support the concept that these were animals living animals' lives.
I believe they said in one of the "making of" specials that they had to listen to 600 hours of audio per series 😲

Gorilla: The gatekeeper or security guard for the safari park
Lion: An elderly head zookeeper
One of the meerkats: A staff working at the safari park
Giraffe: A former game warden now working at a safari park
Tapir: A safari park visitor who is probably Hispanic
Deer: A zookeeper or animal trainer working at the safari park
Zebra: A middle-aged woman who's married
Hippo: A laid-back guy who is currently not working or had since retired
Ostrich: A runner or a woman trying to keep fit
Gazelle: A primate expert working at the safari park
Hyenas: A couple (possibly married) who likes to joke with each other
Monkey: A repairman working at the safari park who repairs broken down staff vehicles
Baboon: Another primate expert
Monkey at 4:46: Zookeeper
Monkey at 5:24: An off-duty zookeeper or animal nutritionist

The lions are lord bath of longleat house, surrounded by his multiple wives 😂 absolute legend. I've got a letter from him somewhere from when I was a kid

yeah, they spray urine. And pretty far too! haha I've seen warning signs at zoos that tell you not to get too close because of that.

Hello camera.
I was raised to never ask or guess someone's age, that it's incredibly rude. So, for me personally, when I run in to women who try to play the whole, "Guess my age" game, it's really awkward. I don't like doing it to begin with and I personally feel like you are put in a situation in which you were forced to accidently offend someone. Now that I think about it, it's kind of like they are trying to force you to compliment them.

It looks like the black ostrich is talking with a female voice. Female ostriches are brown, the males are black.

Who else realises that every animal in some way looks like the person who was interviewed. The faces look alike. It’s not even real anymore 😂😂 The entire time they are being interviewed the cameraman is going thinking “I suppose his expressions are more of an ape” or “I think her voice matches to a bat”
