Yeah, the writers are pretty well remunerated so don’t feel too bad for them. In some ways they don’t have to do the ‘heavy lifting’. It goes to show how fate or chance plays a part in this world. Elton was a piano player for a band and a composer. He wasn't a singer. He entered a publishing contest as such. Bernie was a young troubled kid on his own who had a talent for writing poetry. He entered the contest as such. The guy at the publishing office handed Elton, Bernie's poetry. Together they made history. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road was written by Bernie in two and a half weeks and recorded by Elton and the band in two weeks. Four and a half weeks to write and record one of the greatest albums of all times. Today albums are made over a year or two and don't even come close to that one. Not close in lyricism, music or sound.
"I'm not a recognizable face," Bernie says. Oh, I beg to differ. This old fan from the 70s could have spotted him out of any crowd (and of course, Elton too). ;) Bernie and Elton.... Elton and Bernie. It's a matched set. You cannot have one without the other. Love them both.

First class movie. Loved the insight into the relationships Elton had with good and bad humans throughout his childhood and adult life too . I'd very happily sit and watch this movie again.

It will be like how I've always liked Queen and people look at me like I'm uncool, but then radio stations suddenly start playing their music more, and more people become interested in them because there's a film out about them.
The marriage of Elton and Bernie was and still remains the best duo combination of singer/songwriter to this day. To be able to write and sing brilliantly in one package is so rare. Very few singers had that luxury...John Lennon, John Fogerty, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Billy Joel, Kurt Cobain & Amy Winehouse.
I had never even heard of Bernie Taupin until production on the film began, always thought Elton wrote his own stuff. Have a lot more respect for him now for creating such iconic songs.

Very true. I think the movie will be a very strong reminder of the relationship and the fact that Bernie was a 50% of the reason Elton became so famous.

I think Bernie is not someone who retaliates. With the clothes before performing Pinball Wizard, it's one of my favorite parts because I believe it shows a dynamic between Bernie and Elton that all kinds of relationships should have-a empathy and understanding of the other's nature. When Elton yelled at Bernie, he didn't retaliate. Elton caught himself, held Bernie's hand and genuinely said with his heart, "Sorry" and Bernie says, "I know." Bernie's understands the craziness of what Elton has been doing to himself and is genuinely concerned. He's never mad at him. That is a deep understanding of the underlying issues mixed with unconditional love that many of us fail to give. It's so beautiful.
Absolutely fantastic movie. It's basically a musical where people spontaneously break into song. It uses their songs to illustrate events even if the song was not written till muck later.
