Hey there, Mike. I used to live on the Monterey Peninsula and I occasionally took in your gigs at East Village Coffeehouse (previously called Morgan's). I expatriated the MP in 2012 and my lady and I bought a spread up here in Modoc County. We occasionally take California 299 to the Northwestern border of Nevada where the pavement ends and Nevada State highway 8 begins. It's a dirt "highway" that traverses northern Nevada all the way to Elko. Wild country. If you've never been to Modoc County you are missing the only and last refuge in all of California for real folk.
That's what I subscribed for. Raw, genuine sound and beautiful lyrics! I remember laying out silverware at the end of a shift (at Big Sky) and hearing for the first time “Hickory Wind” and “Pancho and Lefty”. The snow was falling outside and it was so beautiful. (I think there was a guy from Nashville (Kenny) and the piano player who married Krista. In that first band, I can’t remember the name of the band though)
The chord progression is identical to a song I heard a few years ago by Logan Halstead called dark black coal. It is so difficult in folk music these days to write a song that isn't similar to someone else's, if not impossible.
Just a glance at a map shows it's probably true. A mountain range is a separated set of mountains. Alaska looks like one massive range, Nevada has dozens
Love how raw and unpolished this sounds. It's like an uncut gem. Beautiful and rough
Thanks !
Just like Nevada.
Saw him open for Ramblin Jack Elliott one time, he's awesome!
Thanks....!!

I’m originally from Spring Creek, Nevada it’s such a beautiful state to live in

Love that. Love the guitar work. Like a long lost Neil Young recording from 1969. I know a place in the Rubys also. Big horn sheep haven.
I'll take the Shakey reference... much thanks!
Feels like family amen blessings
Excellent! Have only been to Nevada a few times, but I do think I understand what he's singing about (a little bit anyway)

Intro F C G Am
Verses F C / G Am / F C / G Am
Chorus F C / G Am / F C / G Am
Interlude F Em G Am (+F C G Am x2 in 2nd Interlude)
Outro F Em G / F Em G
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
Well, most people know you for ol' Vegas town
Some black and white desert where the A-bomb fell down
And folks on the highway, they don't see a thing
But few of us know Nevada Is King
[Chorus]
So ride all your hills and chase all your cows
The sleep 'neath your stars that love does allow
And trot down the trail to the secret hot springs
But few of us know Nevada Is King
[Interlude]
Oooohohooooohohoooo
[Verse 2]
Well up Jack Creek Canyon, your horses tied there
The smoke from the fire, the crisp fall air
And this deer meat and whiskey, all the gifts that I bring
She's always known, Nevada Is King
[Chorus]
So ride all your hills and rope all your cows
The sleep 'neath your stars that love does allow
And trot through the sage makes our spurs ring
But few of us know Nevada Is King
[Interlude]
Oooohohooooohohoooo
[Verse 3]
Way up in the Rubies, there's a place that I've found
That's where you'll find me when it all goes down
And we'll answer the call with a hawk on the way
But few of us know Nevada Is King
[Chorus]
So ride all your hills and rope all your cows
The sleep 'neath your stars that love does allow
And we'll raise up our glasses, 'round the fire we sing
Few of us know Nevada Is King
[Outro]

Nevada has more mountain ranges than Alaska? I can't say for sure without research but that sounds like bullshit to me
yea, why bother to Google something before calling bullshit?

Alaska has 39 mountain ranges. Nevada has 314
