Met Cliff with three other Pontypool teenagers as he was climbing down a ladder from the gantry before a Wales game at Cardiff. He stopped at the bottom for a chat about us and about the previous game against Ireland. I do remember he mentioned that Willie John McBride had been standing on the foot of Delme Thomas at every lineout. RIP Cliff. A wonderful gentleman and great player.
We as Welsh people embrace our accent because of the great commentary of cliff Morgan......his voice could make a blind man believe he was on the touchline.
the tributes to cliff morgan have been very touching , the voice of some of our past commentators would really help to make the game of rugby so much more exciting , RIP cliff morgan , bill mclaren and eddie waring ,
Such a lovely man. So privileged to spend an afternoon with him, and one or two others, as well, at the funeral of another legend - albeit English (!) Jeff Butterfield.
Cliffs commentary on the barbarians beating the all blacks in 1973,is the greatest piece of rugby commentary of all time ,he understood the game and was a genius at it,he spoke and made you understand that he was on the field, sorry bill,Eddie and Brian , this was meant to be,what a fantastic piece of work , cliff and the players on that day were entwined in a vocal and visual rugby magic 🏴
