I finally had one of the dozens of Bosch units we put in have a problem! 2018 3 ton unit was not turning the outdoor fan motor on, would bump the motor if I tapped on the relay on the board. The new board is an updated design, and comes with the whole corner panel, heat sink, etc. all pre-assembled.
i have the same unit more or less/ been running like a top , i installed it myself , i love being in the trades , im in northern michigan as well , cut my propane by two tanks a winter .
I've instealled the 15 seers combo for my cousin in 2022, without surge protectors, and it has been working fine (knock on wood). And i've recently installed 4x 18seer bosch furnace/hp for people, and 2x more for my rental and primary homes.
Overall the ones I have installed have been reliable and energy efficient but they have been problematic with humidity control and I’ve had to install a few new inverter boards.
Awesome looking threads and logo. Very smart looking 😀. In all seriousness, glad to see you making videos again. You are very thorough and lots of techs learn from your videos.
I enjoyed your video it’s as good as any I’ve seen, but as an old guy 70+ I’ve learned a few things over the years . that tool kit you carry around at every job it needs a magnetic cup that you can sit on top of that unit and put all those little bitty screws and fasteners and crap in so I don’t go kreneing across the yard if a dog comes through and wags his tail , or you get bit by something I have to jump up in a hurry ....it will save you a lot of time and hart ache ! good luck
Steven what systems do you install on manufactor homes. I been putting in air temp units. Nordyne electric furance with case coil and heat pump outdoor unit. If customer had just electric heat with ac I usually upgrade them to heat pump. Would you recommend Bosch systems on these manufacture homes and have you done any please give your thoughts thanks I am an ac tech
Nice work. There are guys out there that would panic at the thought of all that's involved with that board. Last thing and maybe I missed something but were you in Alaska or somewhere where you work in the dark?
Those units seemed nice at the onset....I hope I retire before my customers have problems out of warranty. That said I like the 11yr warranty on them, think I only have three of them I sold because the first version required the addition of a coil temp sensor so the fan didn't start in heat mode before the coil warmed up.....second version they supposedly corrected that. Great video by the way! THX!!
Thermal paste, used mainly in computer components to increase heat distribution, the paste fills all the small imperfections between the two materials and therefore increasing heat transfer.
Man I sure could use some help. I'm haveing a hell of a time trying to find a short in an under counter ice maker. It worked fine last week now its tripping the breaker over determined it's some where in the master wite harness but cant find it. I disconnected all the solenoids the fan the compressor it still tries as soon as I unplug the master cable leading from the control panel you hear all the relays click so I know its somewhere in that mater cable. That proves that the compressor is good still it tries even before it calls for cooling. I disconnected the heater it still trips. Any ideas what to look for I dint see any bad wires. Could a old rusty ground cause it to trip the chassis is kinda rusty from past water leak.
Great Video, Steve! Nice that the board went out while under warranty. Any idea what this board cost? Seems really complex. These are such cool units. Are the boards on the Bosch straight cool units this complicated? Also....the ICP inverter units seem to be the exact board.
@@StephenRardon Wow! Pricey. If out of warranty....there goes those energy savings down the toilet. Wonder if it fails due to being out in the elements, Humidity, moisture, heat, cold, etc.
I would like to have seen a time-lapse video of you trying to put the two wrong molex plugs together on the white wire. 😂👌 #squarepegroundhole Good job buddy, save those knees. 👍
@@StephenRardon just did a furnace and ac install. Man, seeing how hard you go and how skilled you are motivates me. I just recently found your channel. God tier technician.
at 12:43 ... it is a factory failure, I can say it is a easy fix ......... these solder joints goes bad just because trough that component (two legs), probably a diode, not the regular one, the high speed diode, VERY HIGH SPEED of currents travel !, or IGBT 's the one with three legs , it is very common failure on high speed power supply board/ equipment ......personally I did fix in my life thousands of boards including control boards for this kind of machine, the one need high current for three phase motor controlled by an inverter ........ good info anyway ....... what bring me here is the good one: I have in plan to buy a unit exactly like this one, now I know what I need tot do BEFORE I will install it, need to remove the board and solder the right way, in a way will never fail ....the worst case the entire black module need to be replaced, can not be a module special for this board, I am sure you can find the same module on many many controllers ..... thank you Stephen !
To all those in the service industry..Take care of yourself!! You don't have to look like a sales agent and yes I know 15+ hour days are rough in peak season...take care of you..Bro you look worn out
Where are you located? My name is Brian , I broke my phone so I’m using my girlfriends phone to respond 😂 but I’ve been in hvac for 23 years and my cousin that owns the company just started with R E Michael selling Bosch systems.
Kindly put a price of the board in description if possible, for our reference. That board might cost a fortune. How much????? Thousands of components need to make it inverter AC. 1 component might fuck off the equipment.
Too much thermal paste is as bad as not enough. In addition, too much and it can leak over and touch contacts. It can become conductive. Wouldn't surprise me if that's what happened to the first board with those smoke spots.
No. There have been a lot of videos done comparing quantity of thermal paste on cpus and heat. All have found quantity doesn't matter unless you have grossly too little.
This is definitely a "don't try this at home" video. Thanks for making, but you could get more mileage out of this by - showing a good close-up of the board. - have arrows pointing to the disconnected wires. - have the camera "over the shoulder close-up while you're doing the removal/install.

That gray collar looks like a choke/inductor that is used to block/prevent high frequency noise from getting into the DC circuitry.
i have the same unit more or less/ been running like a top , i installed it myself , i love being in the trades , im in northern michigan as well , cut my propane by two tanks a winter .
You're one of the few guys I've seen put surge protectors on these type of units. I always recommend it when I see them in the field.
I've instealled the 15 seers combo for my cousin in 2022, without surge protectors, and it has been working fine (knock on wood). And i've recently installed 4x 18seer bosch furnace/hp for people, and 2x more for my rental and primary homes.

The gray collar is to reduce electrical interference EMF. It's there more for board protection than anything.
The UA-cam gods resurrected Steven from a cave 😂😂😂 welcome back
What was the reason for failure?
Awesome looking threads and logo. Very smart looking 😀. In all seriousness, glad to see you making videos again. You are very thorough and lots of techs learn from your videos.
Any update from Bosch on what caused the main board failure?
No, would appear to have been a factory fault

Love the beer can cold remark.
I knew someone would appreciate it
Where’s Stephen? Sasquatch has taken over HVAC! 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Your back homie. Wooohooo. Is this Bosch stuff like daikin? Breaks all the time.
Nice to see your videos up again. Yeah taking pictures of the wiring is very useful better safe then sorry.
Good job Stephen. (Seating in a bucket on long jobs helps to extend our knees life).

Good to see ya doing a video now and again. You are the first hvac youtuber I subscribed to years ago lol.
You need a magnetic parts tray
Glad to see you back on UA-cam!!! Hope all is well...Take care!!
Great to see you posting videos hope all is going great with your business Be Safe As always Thank you
Dang crickets are louder than the other unit running!
Nice work. There are guys out there that would panic at the thought of all that's involved with that board. Last thing and maybe I missed something but were you in Alaska or somewhere where you work in the dark?
I am in North Carolina, I needed to get the board replaced so did the work when I had the time.
Probably should have wiped down metal plate with isopropyl alcohol . That thing looks like an 8x10 piece of trouble. Glad to see you posting.

So that's what the little bugger does. I'm installing one and I was wondering what it was for. I got to wire and start the unit neXt week.
Nice job in the dark. Thanks Stephen.
Don’t forget your Lavaliere mic that you had on the cricket!
Love the new uniform Stephen purple and green 👌
Do you have a surge protector on that unit?
Really very interesting work my dreem job
Is that a crickets track playing?
LOL 🤣
good seeing you again Steve..
What is thermo paste?
Is that the same stuff to use when brazing?
Thermal paste, used mainly in computer components to increase heat distribution, the paste fills all the small imperfections between the two materials and therefore increasing heat transfer.
Funny I just asked Steven if kept these boards, on his truck Sunday not knowing he had just changed 1 days before!
Shit you're alive! Good to see you kicking around still.

Good job 🌷🌷🌷
I do it
Good job
Due to the big ass board having problems i’ll wait to sell these to customers bosh should get the bugs out after 5 years or so
I've been told Bosch uses Mitsubishi boards.
Halo master
Nice job
Kaha ke rahne wale hai
Good to see you Stephen hope to see move videos 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾✌🏾
👍👍👍
Why the fuck would anyone want a condensing unit that is so complicated?
Is Stephen still alive? Miss his content!
I’m still here, just don’t spend much time on videos in a long while

is this the one i heard 3 chinese guys flew in to see lol?
