I've gotten the same "Do you take credit cards text?" In my area the bigger issue though is that around 40% of tree removal companies don't have worker's comp. I have plenty of work (booked till around mid February) but it's annoying losing work to under-insured competition.
They've tried to get me this way a couple times. Always fishy from the get-go, but they did successfully scam a friend of mine in a similar way. They "bought" a couch from her then canceled the payment after she sent the extra they paid for the "movers". In my opinion it's partially the bank's fault for showing that money is received and available when it's not.
