This song is very meaningful to me. My father passed away in 1982. It took a long time for my mother to come back to church. The choir started to sing this song. I looked over at my mother. She was crying and trying to stop the tears with a very small handkerchief. Thank you for your beautiful rendition.

My late aunt had been a missionary in the Amazon jungle most of her adult life; this was her favorite song. As you can imagine, there wasn't any electricity, radio, phonograph, TV, or telephone; so only songs memorized and taught to the natives were heard. Imagine teaching this song to a tribe of people less than 200, and hearing it sung in a language that no longer exists. Thank you.

@jeannie1renee2 Np Mary Guttery was my aunt. She was with New Tribes Mission. She was a linguist who spoke English, Spanish, Portuguese and helped decipher the native language of two different Tribes; the Krinkati and Timbiri (not sure on the spelling) My Aunt Mary passed from Pancreatic Cancer in 2001 at age 70.
@@dannyreynolds2751 my attention got caught when I read New Tribes Mission (now ethnos360) mainly because I was reached by the Gospel through Net Tribes Mission missionaries. I grew up in the jungle (no longer) in northern Philippines. Headhunting in my tribe( Kalanguya) was a way of life. If not because of the Gospel brought by the missionaries, I and my tribe will still be living the lies of the enemy. My tribe has now the whole Bible dedicated last year. Two of my nieces are now Bible translator consultants with Wycliffe Philippines and are now reaching out other tribes(local and overseas) helping with them in their training and translation needs. Thank you so much for this. This hymn is very special to me. In the days before my mother died, I was tending to her in her home in Georgia. I live and work in Delaware and had only a week to spend with her before I had to return to work. She seemed to exist in a delirious nightmare world, calling out for long-dead relatives she couldn't reach. I searched her house for anything that might comfort her. I found an old CD player and a Statler Brothers album which contained this song and it was the only thing that gave her peace. She didn't know who I was at that time, but she would smile and sing along and tell me how happy our departed relatives were that this song was playing. She died in hospice care a week after I returned home. This was in 2013. I'm grateful for God who gives comfort when we're lost in the dark and I'm grateful for your performance of this beautiful hymn.

When I was a girl, my Mother would listen to Jack Wyrtzen crusades on TV. George Beverly Shea sang on his programs and was reputed to be the singer who brought this beautiful hymn to the forefront in the US. He had an amazing voice and before my Mom passed away she asked that this hymn and In the Garden be played at her funeral. My Niece was able to find Beverly Shea’s version online and we played it as my Mom requested. I’ve complimented you before on your beautiful interpretation s of many songs, but this one is very special to me. Thank you🙂
