When I was a kid in the 60’s may dad had seasoned tickets for the Rams at the Coliseum and Jonathan Winters sat right behind us. My dad would always take to to the game in early November for my birthday and Jonathan Winters could not have been nicer and more generous. I remember one time he drew a turkey on my program. My dad was a huge fan of his and whenever I see a clip like this it reminds me of my dad who was a wonderful man.
Amazing! No foul language - nothing obscene whatsoever - and this guy is absolutely HILARIOUS! Watch his facial expressions. This man was a comic genius. Plus, how can we forget his hysterical role on Mork and Mindy? RIP, Mr. Winters - you will be sorely missed.
He never had to worry about anyone stealing his bits -- 'cuz no one could do them! His routines were one-act plays with him playing all the parts... with sound effects. Funny, brilliant and just so creative. I used to get his albums and listen to them until the grooves wore out.
"Where are all the little green men going?" "They're looking for little green women!" That was a bit off one of his comedy albums. He left out the "green," here, but I'm pretty sure that's how it went. Must've been 1967 or '68, when I heard that line, and it's always stuck with me. He had such an expressive face, but on radio or records, he built an entire world with his sound effects. I felt like he should've done more writing in his later years, but he had such a reputation for improv that it was about all he did.
"I used to get his albums and listen to them until the grooves wore out." .... exactly! My best friend lived across the alley from us and his family had a Jonathan Winters comedy album... with a chip out of the edge. We would carefully hold the needle above that spot to start listening so as not to miss anything we had a chance of hearing. Over and over and over until I moved out of the house at 18. Endless characters and sound effects coming out of one guy... all with that quirky slant on life that Mr. Winters had. No wonder he and Johnny Carson were such good friends - both from the midwest by the way. Very similar senses of humor.
The incomparable comic genius. He could do just about any comedy at the highest level. The greatest at improv, characters, impressions and did entire skits with multiple characters by himself which were equal if not superior to anything ever done on SNL. His "Down to Earth" is the greatest comedy album ever recorded.
OMG. I was a very little kid when I saw this guy on TV shows. Thank goodness for You Tube and retro TV. We are able to enjoy and admire their brilliance once again.
Thanks Mr. Winters. Gave me so much entertainment and so many laughs. You are missed. "Did you ever undress in front of a dog?" Laughing as I type this.
The intro alone gets a thumbs up. Winters is an underappreciated treasure to current generations. Robin Williams appreciated him in such an honorable way.
Nonunanu..Robin Williams..doing Mork...something Jonathan Winters, did way before...never get tired of watching clips of Jonathan..he was a creative genius.
That was actually a freaking scary horror movie. Imagine Jonathan Winters playing all the parts, including the "tiny men" at the end... His sound effects got rounds of applause. He obviously worked on his routines very hard. I can see why Robin Williams was inspired by him....
I used to see him on tv when I was little. He was all over the place. Then he got old.... One of my favorites was when he was on Scooby Doo. Rest in peace. One of the greats.
I am old enough to remember this and other bits OMG especially with Paar. The "Forest Creature" thing when he comes out with the horns on too much. R I P Jonathan!
Winters and Lenny Bruce came along at a time when all of the established comics were doing tired one-liners. The two created characters and scenes from their own lives and imaginations, thus freeing comedy forever.
Oh, Jonathan didn't 'keep it clean'. If you listen, there are MANY innuendoes. He just didn't come right out with it for the most part (Ma Frickert, however was plenty nasty). He just didn't use the 4-letter words and let us use our imaginations as to what he was REALLY talking about. A true master of comedy!
Holy shit, the sounds he is able to make. No wonder why Robin Williams has a lot of imitation acts in his sketches as he clearly has been heavily inspired by Jonathan to a great degree.
As a Brit, I do wonder if Jonathan had ever heard the Goon Show before (or even after) he'd performed some of this material. The parallels are striking.
Hilarious! I have several audio tapes of the Tonight Show with Jack Paar with many guests such as Alexander King, Charley Weaver, Genevieve, Shelley Berman, Oscar Levant to name a few.
Oh thats very sad. Then not only America have lost the greatest comedian, but the world. Its not possible to replace such a fine wonderful person. The good thing is that a lots of videos still exists so we can enjoy the great humour he was able to deliver. R.I.P. a very fine person Jonathan Winters.
You will be missed my comedic friend, very badly... we all love you Jonathan....people in heaven are probably fallen on the clouds, laughing their heads off...forever my friend, forever, you will be missed, not forgotten. One day Jonathan we will be together again...R.I.P. for we love you...4/12/2013 Love forever, your friends, through all eternity, Adrienne Rattazzi and son, Johnathan Sanchez...
Oh J. W. > what a gift you were to all of us. Please find room for you and I to have lunch, call Robin, in that other place.... I admired you both so very much.

Wow dude!!! That is too cool!
What were your tickets seasoned with?
John Winters was a treasure in American comedy. His passing was such a shame, but he had a long life and made so many people smile. What a great guy.
Yes, really enjoy all his show especially "As An Airline Pilot" .....flow the Canadian geese !!!
I first saw him in the episode of Twilight Zone where he plays Minnesota Fats. What a haunting performance. I was surprised to know he was a comedien!

I love these old shows with Jonathan Winters. 1964! I wasn't born until February 1966! Yet, still, I laugh my head off.
He never had to worry about anyone stealing his bits -- 'cuz no one could do them! His routines were one-act plays with him playing all the parts... with sound effects. Funny, brilliant and just so creative. I used to get his albums and listen to them until the grooves wore out.

Sharp observation, how the hell could someone steal his shtick?
Jonathan Winters was one of the things that made my teenage years bearable.
Funniest man that ever lived! Miss him terribly.
Man! That's a 51 year old show and I'm laughing. No joke! Really.
Classic Winters.
The world laughs less now you’re gone, Jonathan.
Happy 60th anniversary to this episode! RIP Jack and Jonathan. Forever two legends in the funniest kind. Heaven is roaring with laughter tonight.

Jonathan Winters a truly great original comedian! One of the all time greatest
This is a man that can create the experience of you watching a story in real life and he does it all using nothing but himself
Thanks Mr. Winters. Gave me so much entertainment and so many laughs. You are missed. "Did you ever undress in front of a dog?" Laughing as I type this.
The undressing in front of his dog part always cracks me up. Love Jonathan.
Always loved Jonathan Winters! So funny!
This man was an American treasure
This is amazing . It takes a lot of skill to pull off an act like this . Timing , acting ability and imagination
Timeless genius hysterical from a brilliant man
one of our best classic comedians of the twentieth century..................
The intro alone gets a thumbs up. Winters is an underappreciated treasure to current generations. Robin Williams appreciated him in such an honorable way.
I’ve never heard him do Karloff. Fantastic!
God needed him back . we got to have him for a short while love you RIP
I loved him in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, World"! Rip Jonathan, you were awesome man!
What's not to love?
His acting in “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, World” should have won an Oscar!

I first discovered Johnathan Winters on Scooby Doo! I have explored much more since to my delight!!!! Love and Respect.
That's hilarious! Jonathan Winters was hilarious. A comedic genius, no doubt about it! Very clever.
This is just brilliant.
That could be a movie, no problem, and a darn funny one too!
Only the greatest comedians can get a room howling with laughter simply by saying the joke's set-up
Crazy! He Sounded a lot Like Boris Karloff!! One of a Kind! A True Entertainer!
The all-time king of comedy.
That was actually a freaking scary horror movie. Imagine Jonathan Winters playing all the parts, including the "tiny men" at the end...
His sound effects got rounds of applause. He obviously worked on his routines very hard. I can see why Robin Williams was inspired by him....

Timeless. A truly gifted man who gave us all honest humor.
A sad, yet inevitable passing.
As funny now as it was back then, I'm sure. This is timeless stuff right here!
Pure genius. R.I.P.
One of the greats
I can see where Robin WIlliams learned his schick.
Charlene Zacks In my opinion never got beyond it.
Williams was never in Winters' class. Never.
Love him, always and forever. A darling man!
I had no idea Winters did a spot-on Boris Karloff...
Just one more amazing thing about him I discover AFTER he passed-away
Jonathan Winters Is So Unique Of A Great Comedian, He Could Never Be Replaced, And Will Never Be Forgotten. 😆
Amazing talent.
Winters and Lenny Bruce came along at a time when all of the established comics were doing tired one-liners. The two created characters and scenes from their own lives and imaginations, thus freeing comedy forever.
Wipe the tear. Now, laugh. Laugh some more. Laugh harder! Jonathan would want it that way. RIP.
This is good enough for radio.
Jonathan Winters The King of the Facial Expressions!!!!!
Thanks for posting and thank heaven for UA-cam

Adult comedy was not intended for kids.
One of my idols. I loved that guy. Have his albums and his book. His passing is truly sad.
Holy shit, the sounds he is able to make. No wonder why Robin Williams has a lot of imitation acts in his sketches as he clearly has been heavily inspired by Jonathan to a great degree.
It's even more amazing when Johnathan and Robin played off of each other 😂
He was also one of Jim Carrey's comic heroes...
Pure clean comedy.
The song they played when Winters entered was "Oh, Johnny oh."
When the comedy man is having fun, we are too.
Brilliant...can't get over the amazing sound effects he created.
Even Rickles said he was the best improv he had ever seen....nuff for me👍
thanks, jonathan, for a lifetime of laughter....
"Sorry Ralph"....shit had me rollin
Genius !!
One and Only!! The Best!!
Comedic giant, probably the best of his era. I'm a huge Frank Gorshin fan also. When these fellows did a routine they owned you.
RIP. thank you for all the laughs.
After 60 years this stuff is still funny 😁. Winters was also his own special sound effects machine. 🤣
The Jimi Hendrix of comedy.
This world needs improv. It’s a lost art.
Jonathan was my hero growing up! True genius with a big heart. RIP Jonathan Winters

Great Boris Karloff imitation starting at 4:07.

There was Winters and Rickles. Polar opposites, but the two funniest comedians ever.

RIP Mr Winters. Thank you for many laughs
A masterpiece.
At 2:54 he sounds exactly like Harry Morgan!
He was able to work with what ever he was giving to him any situation or prop only a few comedians are able to do.
His performance of twin brothers in The Loved One is a masterpiece in an outstanding film.
Oh J. W. > what a gift you were to all of us. Please find room for you and I to have lunch, call Robin, in that other place.... I admired you both so very much.
Of course this man was brilliant. A rare master in the world of comedy and improv.
R.I.P. Mr. Winters, There Will Not Be Another Guy Like You.
CLASSIC... RIP sir
The intro to this video says January 31, 1964. Jack Paar went off the air in 1962.
Jack did a weekly show on NBC after Tonight until 1965.
loved his comic genius
It is no wonder why Robin Williams was so close to and so inspired by this man.
Here is proof that comedy can be clean without swear words.
I don't know. This wasn't dirty for 1964?
So, there is dirty comedy with dirty swear words as well?
