    I'm always impressed by someone that can work with foam and make it look effortless! Keep these builds coming!

    I think I'm going to do this but increase the mallet size by about 25% to 50% to give it more "absurd" feel.
    Great tutorial and extremely straight-forward. I have a Joker/Harley-theme in my personal office area and I want to hang this between some artwork. I just need to figure out a unique way to hang it up and put a sign in that I'll probably use some similar techniques on.
    Great job, dude.

    Also, you should come join the I Like To Make Stuff Facebook page. It has nothing to do with Bob's UA-cam channel, but its a great way to bump elbows with a bunch of content creators.

    Ya got some thumbs down, but I just think its those who dont wish to apply a really great and realistic look. Your build is so much more detailed than many others, but just look at it! Its uncanny how real that thing looks! Takes awhile to build but certainly a good job and worth it if ya have patience.

    Hey there Jack of All,
    I am super impressed with your work! I have recently bought your templates to start working on a Batsmasher for my daughter.
    I am having a heck of a time trying to get my foam pieces to look like wood. Do you have any advice or tips in regards to this? Maybe even some photos of the wood detail?
    Thanks so much in advance! Keep up the great work!

      Sorry for the late reply. In all honesty I sometimes use a marker to draw in a wood grain. Once I'm happy with that I'll go to town with the dremmel. Once you start, you'll be surprised how easy it is. I'd say test it out on a few scraps until you get the look you're going for.

    This looks amazing, great I think you have plenty of good details with your "talking." However I missed how long to make the pvc pipes and metal one on the handle? I can't wait to start making my own and my costume to go with my son's theme who is trick or treating as nanana Batmsn!

      this is a late reply, but I get the foam at Harbor Freight. They are called anti-fatigue mats. They usually come in a pack of 4.

    Can a hairdryer be used as a replacement for a heat gun?

    • @erichaltomwoodworking7363
      @erichaltomwoodworking7363  6 років тому

      I haven't tried this myself, but I imagine that the heat may not be enough to seal the foam but may be just enough to shape it inch by inch.

    How would I go about making a more "barrel" shaped mallet??

    • @erichaltomwoodworking7363
      @erichaltomwoodworking7363  6 років тому

      I would reverse the shape of the panels and make them slightly wider in the middle than the ends of the panel pieces. I hope that makes sense.

    • @erichaltomwoodworking7363
      @erichaltomwoodworking7363  7 років тому

      It's called EVA foam... It is the anti-fatigue floor matting you get for flooring. This is an example amzn.to/2bRfIbc I wouldn't buy this particular item since you can probably find it cheaper. If you're near a Harbor Freight here in the US their mats are $10 but you can get them on sale for $7. www.harborfreight.com/4-piece-anti-fatigue-foam-mat-set-94635.html

      According to Etsy, they deactivated the listing because "they need to make sure it meets their policies" and will email me when they get around to checking it out. Once I get some things sorted out on my website, I'll start selling them directly from there.

    The pattern is wrong.
    The diameter for the inner circle is 9,5" ( 24,1 cm). this circle at a perimeter of
    P = D x π = 9,5" x π = 29,83" ( 75,6 cm)
    If we add the size of the different panels
    5,25" x 6 = 31,56"
    in cm : 13,33 x 6 = 80 cm
    It's missing 1,96" (5 cm) at the perimeter of the lower circle.

    • @erichaltomwoodworking7363
      @erichaltomwoodworking7363  6 років тому

      In my prototyping phase I started with this exact calculation. But because of the thickness and elasticity of the material, this calculation becomes incorrect. In the end, the measurements left in these templates account for those issues. Remember that foam expands and contracts based on applied heat and pressure from your fingers. I'm sorry you felt you needed to give a bad review based on math, but trust me I made dozens and many others made these mallets and didn't have any problems with the templates.

    Have you ever considered selling your hammers for those of us who aren't very handy when it comes to building? Haha.

    • @erichaltomwoodworking7363
      @erichaltomwoodworking7363  8 років тому

      Yeah, actually I thought of selling them before I thought of sharing a video. Unfortunately, with the amount of time it takes to put into one, the price is steeper than most want to spend on something like this. But if you're interested, I have them available here. www.etsy.com/listing/466842973/harley-quinn-hammer-mallet

      very late response here, so I'm sorry for that. But, I get my eva foam from Harbor Freight, but only when it's on sale. They have decent quality and the cost is very cheap. I hear a lot of cosplayers getting the L200 from amazon, so if you're not around a Harbor Freight, try Amazon.
