- The grand jury investigation follows a familiar playbook written over two decades of similar investigations in Pennsylvania of the Catholic Church:
In 2003 then-Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham impaneled a grand jury that in 2005 delivered a blistering indictment against the Philadelphia archdiocese’s complicity in widespread child sex abuse by clergy.
In 2016 then-Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane released a 147-page report on a child sex abuse cover-up by the Altoona-Johnstown diocese, concluding the diocese had “a dark and disturbing history.”
Other investigations looked into child sex abuse at Penn State in 2011 and the Solebury School in Bucks County in 2017.
“There is no state in the country that has more knowledge about the way abuse operates in institutions than Pennsylvania,” said Marci Hamilton, founder and CEO of Child USA, a prominent national think tank focusing on the prevention of child sexual abuse.

Elders should be sued for not reporting abuse.
The leadership should be imprisoned for enforcing covering up abuses. The leadership should be held accountable along with everyone else who was involved. No question. Very criminal
@@tammyg8031 Agree.
They should be prosecuted as Accomplices.
Not just for hidden Child Sex Assaults, but also for the unreported rampant Domestic Abuse that goes unpunished.
Watchtower Org Cult has multiple criminal reasons to be erradicated from existence.
Michael Pencava case in Illinois last year was held responsible last year. He was a licensed school teacher and listened to Watchtower not to report CSA of a little girl.
@Powderpuff Yes.
There is Zero excuse or reason for WT and the Elders, to refuse to report any disclosed allegations and occurances of Domestic Abuse and Marital Sexual Assault, either.
If it is a CRIME, then they should uphold the law and report.
To refuse, Makes them Blood Guilty and Accomplices to said CRIMES.
@@sparklecanada0112the parents should be held accountable as well. I remember the elders telling my parents not to go to the police….not to bring reproach on Jehovah s name. I felt so betrayed by all the adults involved.
So glad I got out, my sister and I. We’ve had our own abuses covered up, and it helped us wake up as to how horrible the cult truly is
There's an upcoming PROTEST in WASHINGTON D.C on October 31st 2023 that will further expose Watchtower's cover up of CSA. Join the protest and pass the word. Your voice needs to be heard & Watchtower needs to be held accountable.
Me too
Religious organizations have too much power. It's time for change, we need to protect our children.
It's unfathomable to me that anyone would not want a child abuser held accountable for his or her criminal actions.
Everything about this cult, needs brought to light, including the child abuse and cover-up.
The WRATH is upon Watchtower and many cults like them
JW Leadership: Wanting all of the AUTHORITY of being designated a Minister/Clergy, but none of the RESPONSIBILITY.
*My new graphic novel just got 9 gold awards for bringing awareness to youths about this cult. I saw so much child abuse and grooming covered up by parents and elders. There was even CSA in our Kingdom Hall bathroom covered up and one of those youths got shunned and he committed suicide. It’s a public court case that was Loomis, California Victims versus Watchtower and they won. Elders were instructed by their corporation to destroy documents (read public case). I knew people that died from refusal of blood transfusions. Most childrens education is restricted in it too! I went to an unaccredited JW ran homeschool. Sad memories growing up and so much alcohol abuse by most parents and elders in it.*
Natalie Grand Author...
That is so heartbreaking to hear.
But, sad to say, You are correct that it is rampant and hidden and unprosecuted.
The same things go on with Domestic Abuse, in various forms, within the Congregations.
I knew many JW Female Victims, when I was involved.
All the victims get Shamed and Blamed and never supported.
The Perpetrators, get supported and consoled and worst yet, NEVER exposed publicly or Prosecuted.
This is Abominable! This is Unjust In Every Way!

Fox43: CORRECTION IN THIS PIECE: Leaving the JW's is called waking up, and in JW terms is "Disassociating." Being forcefully thrown out by no choice of your own (excommunication) is called "Disfellowshipping."
Well, a judicial committee can hardly be characterised as being a spiritual setting. Confession, maybe, but it’s coerced confession with the blame laying on the victim oftentimes.
Glad I woke up from that cult years ago. It’s a shame after all the facts that has came out that this religion is false that anyone would still be a Jehovah’s Witness
Many are hostages.
@@goldenoriolesilverbirch8220 - Yup! They can't leave.
I am glad I am out because the Tower is falling no doubt. They are getting deregistered in the U.S as in Norway
What on earth does "deregistered in the U.S." even mean?
@@GorgeousRoddyChrome It means no Government funding. The JW religion expects 'Satan's world' to support them financially, and cries when it doesn't.
What is "deregistered"?
@@Ava2969ny
That is a term used to identify a church's charitable status as recognized by the government of Norway, for the purpose od receiving government funding.
Such a system does not exist in the USA. It appears as though the original poster is ill informed on the matter.
Now that the circuit overseer technically appoints elders, by the recommedation of the body of elders, it opens up more legal action. We all know that the reason it was done was so that the society could say 'nothing to do with us. We didn't appoint him''. But by throwing the elders and CO under the bus, they forget that the CO is PAID a wage by the society. He is working for, and answers directly to the branch. Their own policies will hang them
You are absolutely 💯 correct. Watchtower is crumbling and will pay for what they have done.
The 'elders' are usually brain washed stooges. Until the Governing Body of this religion is held accountable for these outrageous abuses, nothing will change. ( The clue as to responsibility is in the title GOVERNING BODY ).
No organization should think they can get away with doing things against the law in the name of religion. In my opinion they should be paying their fair share in taxes also.
Yes I agree that ANYONE knowing or having any inclination that a child is being molested should be responsible for going to Police. Police are here to help children.
I hope Pennsylvania doesn't drop the ball and holds the Watchtower accountable for its crimes.
$ CULT $
This is disgusting
Leaving is not called disfellowshipping. Leaving on your own volition is called disassociating yourself. Disfellowshipping is when you “sin” and they basically put you out of the congregation, your family can’t talk to you and only the elders can talk to you about being reinstated after you repent for your sins.
No, you're wrong. They disfellowshipped me just for not going anymore. I was born into this cult in 1967.
@@Vicki_Benji maybe it was different in your congregation. I was in for 20 years from 88. When you left and didn’t sin they called you inactive. I also lived very close to Bethel (watchtower farms) so the governing body and presiding overseers were a frequent thing in our congregation. They followed everything very closely.
@@JMaMi86_ no, it was like that in many congregations in my area. I also watch Lloyd Evans, and I saw that it's pretty standard.
@@Vicki_Benji interesting. Like I said maybe some congregations were different. I've been to various congregations all over the US and I have seen that there is not the uniformity they claim to have on ALL things. Some congregations were more loose than others and some were more strict. I left 20 years ago and was not disfellowshipped. My mother would have informed me because I was baptized. I have another immediate family member who "sinned" while in and left and they were disfellowshipped. Idk what to tell you but I'm glad we are all out!!
@@JMaMi86_ hopefully the cult dies in our lifetime and we can live to see it.
Systemic child abuse in JW is an accurate description of what happens in that "religion". I live in Canada and it's true in that country as well. My son married a young JW woman who had been sexually abused by her elder father from the time she was a toddler. My son only found out about the abuse on his wedding night. The predator/elder has never been reported to police so was never charged. He also needs to be on the sex offender registry, but is obviously being protected by the religion. I suspect this puts other children at risk of being abused by those men who JWs are taught to trust. Sickening.
My parents always kept us in the Pew with them that way they knew we were safe
My family are jehovah witnesses and I was forced to go as a child and to this day as an adult my mom and grandma want me to be a witness and get close to jehovah and I told them over and over again no. They don't get it especially my grandma. She thinks if she keeps asking I will become a witness and told her old butt no and stop asking but the woman keep asking to the point I hardly ever talk to her.
@ 14 secs. - "The organization ITSELF could be held responsible for the actions of its members."
Sadly, I seriously doubt if the cult can be held accountable for any criminal activity which one of its MEMBERS carries out.
Claiming vicarious liability - "while an employee is conducting their duties" - is very difficult.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vicarious_liability_in_English_law
Where you been? Catholic Archdiocese all across the country have gone bankrupt because of being held accountable. Boy Scoots of America as well. WatchTower cult is NEXT.
That statement doesn't take into consideration the fact that it's a high control group.
They should be held responsible for the advice they give as an organization, which in the case of child abuse has been: Trust everyone in the organization and view them as your family; Don't take them to court/ go the police if they commit a crime against you; Keep quiet or else you'll bring reproach on Jehovah's name.
This isn't a matter of a single JW holding up a liquor store and the Watchtower Society having to answer for it, this is a problem within the institution that's been handled very badly because WT prioritizes its reputation over its duty to protect its children.
@@catnamedeaster9164 exactly right. They’re responsible because they weren’t following the mandatory reporting laws. How could you live with yourself knowing a child was getting sexually assaulted and you didn’t help them? These men supposedly are looking after the flock but they’ve done nothing to help these children. It’s a pedophile sanctuary. Closed society.
