This video is a waste of your time. It is some da filming his mechanic do all the work, and not sharing anything details about what he is doing. Like he just asked the mech, hey, uh, I know nothing about cars, but could I film what your doing for UA-cam so it might help people do it... Mechanic was just being polite. PS if you did watch this, don't do what the mechanic did. He just wasted about an extra hour of the guys time by leaving the flex disk on the steering column. Take it out with the rack, that way you go to transfer it to the z3 rack, you can easily align it(correctly) by comparing where it was on the e46 rack. Also, dont tie down the steering wheel to prevent it from moving. Use the steering lock function by removing the key. Aldo, I just finished my z3 rack retrofit into my e46 sedan from the Zhp rack. Z3 rack is waaaaay better.
Did you have an issue with the steering coupler? I put a z3 1.9 rack and realized the splined shaft is bigger than the oem e46 which makes the steering coupler (guibo) hard to fit. About a year later, the threads on the aluminum coupler gave out and I lost steering. Luckily not at the track or at high speed. I realized this after switching to a zhp 712 rack that the coupler was smaller.
After one year do you think it’s worth replacing the e46 m3 with z3 steering rack. Could you share your experience and have some feedback, thank you

I have the same problem on e36 and you used ziptie, so i wonder would they let me pass registration Like that tubes ziptied to steering rack?
