I have a question! I saw a fashion plate recently from the regency period and one of the figures was holding a cockade fan, and the pivot was actually a tiny spyglass (like half an opera glass?). Have you ever come across anything like that? I am wondering if it was a whimsy of the illustrator or a real thing.
I haven’t come across anything like that, but I am intrigued! I did have a graduate student make a cockade fan for a class project once but I can’t imagine having the diameter of a spyglass that would be very functional, and also be functional for the fan frame. But, I don’t manufacture either one of those things so I’m interested in learning more!
