Due to the oily condition of the old spark plug threads, it appears that the 21 year old valve cover gaskets were leaking oil into the spark plug valley, puddling up in the spark plug holes. While unscrewing the plugs, the oil drained into the holes drenching the plug threads. Oil collecting in the spark plug holes, indirectly due to a leaky valve cover gasket, is a well known issue with the Toyota 2JZ-GE engines. However, this can be easily remedied with new valve cover gaskets.
Notes:
Those with Automatic Transmissions will have a third cable (A/T Cable) that will need to be removed from the throttle body.

This helped me out today! Thanks for the info .. Did it just like your video .. Started right up .. 👍🏼
+Jason Renac You're welcome. Take care of that baby.
Badass job on the video, very descriptive.
Appreciate your compliment... thanks.
Thank you
good video n song
thank you for the video, you're awesome, save me some money..
Thanks for help ❤️😘😘😘😘😀
thanks!
Quick question on the distributor rotor. When you changed it did you set the timing to top dead center or was it unnecessary if you don't take out the whole distributor. I have a leak in that area so I want to change the oil ring inside there to stop the leak. I just used your other video for doing the valve cover gasket and that info was invaluable for me to do it at home. Thanks for helping us all!
If you're only swapping out the distributor rotor, it is keyed and will only fit one way so it doesn't matter what position your engine is rotated to. Regarding the leak, there are some good write ups on CL on how to change the dist o-ring without messing the timing up. Be careful.
Thanks once again and I will take a look on CL!
did this today earlier. had one plug cylinder 3 full of oil on the spark end. weird because I had changed the valve cover gasket last year. hmmm. oh well
Mike Fortier Hi Mike, did you check if there was oil in the spark plug galley? At the time you pulled #3, was there oil on the ceramic end of the plug above the hex nut? Might have to shine a light in there before removing the spark plug the next time around. You can even pull the valve covers again just to make sure (ugh I know). Pray it's not a piston ring but the good news is, you can probably run your car with no problems for a long time even with oily plugs. I know this because I have for a few years :) I will be installing Felpro valve cover gaskets next month, I hope it works.
i had the entire engine from block and up redone. machined, recently. at deepstage motorsports here in texas. set me back only 1700$ which was cheap compared to all the work they did. especially for the 2002 is300. btw I double checked the plug again. after I had replaced plugs from bosch platinum to ngk 1 r iridium. no oil. anywhere. runs a lot better now also with my new idw import direct magcor wires...
Mike Fortier Glad to hear all is well. My 2JZ-GE is a third of its way to 300K miles on the odo. See you when you get there.
whats the order of the spark plugs going clockwise?
also I have a 93 supra na, but it's leaking oil on the exhaust manifold in the back by the firewall what would cause that?
The firing order for the 2jz-ge (inline six) is 1-5-3-6-2-4 ; Oil can leak from the valve cover gasket; see how to replace it here: ua-cam.com/video/Ks0V1gAk0FY/v-deo.html
I changed the valve cover gasket but it's still doing it. Now I will admit I'm no mechanic and fucked shit up worse in the process
Your'e just gonna have to clean it up really good so you can pinpoint where the leak is. You might have to pull that cover up again and to make sure the gasket was seated properly. Clean up everything and inspect the mating surfaces of the cover and the head. There's no other way around it.
Aw3some vids strump would you happen to have a write up on all you tune up and maintenance guides
BKkillaz Thanks and glad you like the videos. Sorry I don't have them written up but I do use the "Technical Information System," which is an online manual for all Toyota, Lexus, and Scions. Google "Toyota TIS" to find out more.
I did my spark plugs on my 93GS & now I have coolant in my cylinders & car is very shaky...
Changing your plugs would not cause coolant to leak into the cylinders. However, recheck the firing order if your engine is very "shaky." -It's a common mistake to switch wires on the distributor.
@@strumpeteer yeah it turned out to be my Head gasket but I appreciate the video so much I've searched everywhere and no one does 2jz work before 97 so this really help 👌👍
Hey man so I got my sc300 last week and I went to get the head gasket replaced but bro there is a loud whistle after leaving the car run for a few minutes any idea ?
When I press down the throttle body it gets louder , I can send you a video if you can help man that would amazing
Dunno, there are so many things. Better to post it up on clublexus.com
Whats the order of the wires?
Firing Order for 2JZ engines: 1-5-3-6-2-4
Wow you just put this up a couple of days ago. I started my tune up yesterday and found light coats of oil on some of the plugs. Just picked up Fel-pro gaskets. And for some reason there is 3 gaskets in the box. I watched another UA-cam video and a guy was doing his gs300 and he had the same amount in the box. Strange the company put the extra gasket in the box. .. anyways. Back to my project. And great video bro..

shawn carroll extra is incase you tear one. that's how much they care about their customers.
shawn carroll Thanks! Yeah Felpro for some reason put two intake valve cover gaskets for who knows why. Don't forget to replace the valve cover bolt washers (metal/rubber). There are 16 of them. I'm ordering some this week for about a buck a piece.
my 1992 sc300 has 159,470 miles and my 2002 is300 has 145,244 miles both feel like they have barely begun to break in and really purr...I know they will both be 500k miles engines easily. HOPEFULLY. lmao
