My dad grew up in this era, it's where I got my love for army men from. He had the desert fox playset and I still have some of the figures/vehicles from it to this day! Love these videos of playsets
Just wanted to thank you for recommending the SCS WWII 200 army men set! I've been painting a set of them and I'm blown away by the detail for the price! So fun to paint!
I saved my money for months to by that set when I was 10 or 11. I payed around $5.oo for it .around 1970 . The most played with toy I owned next to my "fort apache " being second most ...still have most of both sets well into my adult hood .cool seeing this set on UTube
I am in my 50s now, and I had 2 different Marx sets. My first set was the earlier version of your battleground set. They came with a cool printed plastic sheet for the land, but if you set up all your men and accidentally moved the plastic, they all fell over! I scored big one year in the early 70s with the Marx Navaron man mountain set. 20 years ago, it was sill at my mom and dads. It was still in the big box. But I went to find it and mom said she gave it to a kid at her church. Lucky kid! At the time, they were still worth about $300. I played with my plastic Army men for many years. It's probably one of the best buys of my childhood.
This to date is my favorite armymen sets I still have mine from 1963 I traded a extra German soldier set for two tank 51s a few years ago I recently saw one bay that just one tank 51 went for 300 dollars I guess when my grandson gets a little older I will pass them down to him when he can appreciate them and take care of them like I did by the way I love your vidios keep on making them !
My buddy had that set when I was a kid, and I had the "Iwo Jima" one with the tan Japanese soldiers. Maybe I missed it, but you don't seem to have my favorite American guy - which was a tripod-mounted heavy machine gunner (we called it a set-up machine gun when I was a kid). Also you asked about the tank. It appears to represent an M-26 Pershing, or perhaps a Korean War M-46 Patton (which was nearly identical). My buddy's German set came with tanks (representing Panthers) and trucks, too.
Marx products have probably become one of my favorites as I've gotten deeper into collecting, along with Tim Mee as they're the ones I grew up playing with the most. I recently picked up a complete Marx 1950's Fort Apache for my Dad for Christmas, and seeing his reaction was priceless as he'd been talking about having it as a kid for as long as I can remember. There's just something so cool about the Marx playsets and the neat variety of accessories and details they include. They're a little pricey for me to go looking for too often, BUT, the Marx Battleground set is definitely one I want to add to the pile one of these days.
Merry Christmas! Was going through my Reddit comments and came across the channel again, remember back when you mentioned the 200 sub special lol How time flies, GGs on 2.4k!
Hey Plastic Commander! I just recently discovered your channel and just had to subscribe, your videos are a major nostalgia trip for me! This might seem like a weird question, but in your travels and collecting have you ever come across ninja army men? When I was little back in the 80s I distinctly remember having two sets of different styles of ninjas. One set was ninjas with swords molded in black fighting samurai molded in grey. They were all slightly smaller than your average army men that come in those Timmee packs, but were pretty detailed. The other set were a little larger, but less detailed and were molded in black, white, and grey. They had a bunch of different poses with different weapons like bows, staffs, swords, and nunchuks. Does any of this sound familiar? I've tried scouring google and ebay, but I can't find much information and a lot of searches get muddled due to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle line.
In the 2010’s I know imperial made ninjas of various sizes, they weren’t these were they? www.ebay.com/itm/195959019679?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=QMJRvzcpQs6&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=NvMMPiLqQnO&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
I know exactly which ninjas you're talking about! I used to find bags of them at a flea market in my town, and played with them all the time. I also haven't seen them again since, but I'm happy someone else knows of them! Finally! Lol
I'm waiting for a really big order from BMC toys and I'm also waiting for my order of Ninjas, Normans and Zulus too. I'm also going to buy some English civil war soldiers, both round heads and cavaliers. I've been anticipating your new video, thanks for uploading it.
