This is a beautiful layout so realistic ,the background the figures ,the sound ,I find watching this so relaxing it takes me back to the halcyon days of the 40s and 50s.
The details are amazing including the cows moo-ing in the fields also the clickerty clack over the joins n the rails. I'm in awe . Have watched it 3 times and i could keep watching it. thanks
Breathtaking and inspirational as ever. Congratulations on getting into Hornby magazine - overdue recognition. I'm amazed to read how little time you've been working on the layout, which looks like a lifetime's work to me!
Thank you, I really appreciate it. I guess I managed to cut a few corners with the baseboards and wiring etc, which saved a lot of time and got my only the scenery really quickly. Glad you liked the article 😀
I’ve really enjoyed seeing this layout come together and evolve into what it is now. It’s magnificent, and well done for getting it on the mag cover! The sound editing is also some of if not the best I’ve ever heard on a model railway video.
Nicely filmed, Lewis. Photos looked good in the mag, but the text was better; you made some really good, salient points as regards railways. Yes, the landscape came first and the railway cut through it, to me, the modern image people seem to fit the landscape around the railway. Yourself, David Hyde, and Peter Harrison have a 'railway' as opposed to a layout; you all railwaymen who understand the operation of a working railway, and that it is not just about watching trains go around and around. And you all show that you do not need masses of track and stock, just imagination and soul. As always, Henry.
Thanks Henry. That means a lot, I’m really pleased you liked the article. I did get a lot of inspiration from both David and Peter actually, both their layouts have such great atmosphere. Imagination and soul, as you say. Thanks again.
If the layout gets any bigger you will have to get a drone to follow the line. You deserve the recognition for such a wonderful layout. Well done indeed.
What a fantastic layout! I particularly like the presentation on the video with the sound effects and choice of shots. Your article in Hornby Magazine was well deserved! Cheers! :)😊😊😊😊😊👍
Really enjoyed reading about a layout in the excellent Hornby Magazine that I’m sure many subscribers agree we feel a little bit connected to as one where we’ve been privileged to see develop and grow thanks to this channel, not to mention learn from your journey and experience. Top stuff!
Thank you, pleased you liked the article! That’s an interesting point you know, well thanks for watching it develop and for all the comments, I really appreciate it.
This railway is utterly stunning and the effort you go to of syncing sounds makes it all the more amazing. How do you do it! (edit) your soundscapes are divine!
Well done Mr Raspberry. Proper recognition at last lol. I haven't had a major mag publication entry since BRM Jan 2012. It really is a great feeling to have your work acknowledged. Cheers, Bob
Superb as always Lewis. Can’t wait to get the magazine (which I shall be buying specially) which I know I’m going to enjoy. Hopefully you will see a well-deserved jump in subs. Cheers!
Thanks Lewis - A beautiful start to the morning. Sincerely impressed by your pages in Hornby mag. The photographer made a fab job of bringing out the absolute beauty of your layout!! Won't say too much today - you're gonna be inundated! -Teresa
Thanks Teresa, really appreciate it. Yes, Mike did a great job with the photos. I really liked the track plan as well, I sent in a photo of an awful drawing on a load of A4 sheets of paper cello taped together, so the fact that it turned out as it did is amazing! Thanks again, always appreciate your comments
Yeah!! i just purchased the magazine to read up on the class 66 and though - i know this layout, i remember when he did the station last year! well done, you rightfully deserve your claim to fame Sir.
Well done in getting the layout in the mag. Clint wait to get my copy of it. Never get tired of your videos and this was the perfect weekend opener to watch. Nice variety running and lots to look at in every scene. Keep up the great work. Clint
Another cracking video, I'm really enjoying your posts Lewis. The sound syncing in this one is your best yet, well done. I picked up a copy of Hornby Mag for the first time yesterday specifically to read your article. The photos are great and really do your layout justice, particularly the opening one with the Black Five on the embankment.
Congrats on hitting the front cover of “THE” magazine .... no stopping you now but as always a lovely way to relax at the end of the day ... keep up the good show 👏👏👍
Hi Lewis, wonderful video as usual with lots of variety and great camera angles. Congratulations on being featured in Hornby Magazine. I will keep an eye out for it. We wont get it until late February or early march. Wish it was winter here, todays temperature reached 34 degrees here on the Gold Coast in Queensland. Cheers Greg
Thank you Greg, appreciate it. Everyone here has been keeping a close eye on your weather recently, crazy stuff. Hopefully it cools down soon. Have you had many fires near the Gold Coast?
We have been relatively lucky, except for some fires in the Hinterland which is approximately 15 kms behind the Gold Coast. One large fire destroyed Binna Burra Lodge which was an historical tourist resort. Very sad as it was such a beautiful place.. The whole of Australia is suffering one of the worst droughts which has resulted in bushfires in nearly every state in Australia. It has been estimated that over one million native animals have perished in these fires. The Koalas have been the worst affected because they live high up in the gum trees and therefore have no means of escape. The whole of the country is in desperate need of lots of rain. Some country towns are have water trucked in as their dams are almost dry. Regards Greg
Hi Lewis, Happy New Year to you. Congratulations on getting into the Hornby magazine, finally, it's nice to see you getting some recognition for all your hard work at last, you are a true patron to this hobby, well done! I wish you all the best for 2020. ...Cheers Les.
Excellent opening to the clip and you deserve to be in it Lewis .I liked also the odd couple of NEW camera angles in the clip and again sound is on the button. The article in the magazine makes for interesting reading and you should be proud of the achievement og the dales railway to date.Looking forward to a interesting year on the dales ......
Lewis firstly, knew the article was coming.I read it this morning and was not disappointed, as with this running session truly sensational. Well done with it all, and so nice to see ones efforts well and truly rewarded with such accolade chum. Cheers Paul at Sandling Junction
Hi Lewis I picked up a copy of the Hornby mag on the way to work and was pleasantly surprised to see your layout on the front cover, I'd forgotten it was in this months copy, well done by the way! Great article and some stunning pictures.....and then I get to work to find a video as well :-) Yeah, double bubble... Super video to. Cheers Paul
Thank you Paul. I know I was pleasantly surprised to see my trusty 4MT on the cover as well! Annoyingly though, I removed the headlamp before the shot and you can see a blob of blue tack on the smoke box 😂 thanks again mate, keep up the great videos.
I like all your videos Mr Mouldy but you have excelled yourself with this one! Superb, only need the smoke now. Brill layout. My staff at Browndale are keen to visit your’e engine shed!!
Thank you John. Not much cleaning gets done by my guys at Buckdale I must admit. Two years now and the engines are still filthy while they stand around chatting! Don’t want your chaps picking up bad habits!
Mouldy Raspberry All mine were like that when it was a conventional railway. When it became a heritage line everything was cleaned up as you would expect. I keep the staff on their toes! I have just put vid on my channel!
Great stunt by the 4-6-0 : "I'm running in reverse tender-first", I love it ! Anyway, also an excellent show by the other actors, Lady Britannia at her best for beginning, and the 0-6-0 "let's have some freight toghether" who follows. Another good show to see here, I'm hooked on your work !
Easily one of my favourite layouts on UA-cam. Well done on being featured on this months Hornby mag too - really well deserved. Just seen the video of you on New Junction too so it’s been nice to hear you and put a face to the raspberry!! 😉👍
Superb. Great sound effects, really bring the layout to life. Even my wife who has no interest in model railways was suitably impressed . Congrats on the magazine article.
Hi Lewis, only just got round to looking at the latest Hornby Magazine - what a wonderful surprise to find your magnificent layout on the front page and a great spread inside! Talk about inspirational, well done mate, you deserve all the praise. Cheers Steve
Your railway has evolved from a little 3 car sideline to a 6 car mainline ! Awesome and the sounds are so perfect even matching a train going into a tunnel ! Congratulations ❤
Hi there well first of all many congratulations on getting a great showing in Hornby Magazine . You really do deserve top billing there. The railway is simply outstanding and I love the sound effects too. You may recall I commented recently on the fact you had a local Black 5 on your layout. it may surprise you but your Midland 4F is also local. This was actually based at Leeds Stourton shed (55B). I can remember it well running past Holbeck on it's way to the Settle & Carlisle line on ,many an occasion. Stourton shed has now got a Freightliner container depot in it's place but that's progress eh!
Thank you Denis, really appreciate it. No way thanks for enlightening me, that’s really nice to have some truly authentic engines. I’ll have to make note of all the shed codes actually and map of where everything I’ve got was based. Would be interesting. Thanks again.
was wonderful to see your layout in print, I'd never considered the scale of the whole thing until i saw the track diagram. been a pleasure to watch it grow develoup
Pleased you liked it! Yes I suppose it’s hard to get an idea of the whole thing just from the videos, which are often filmed very close to track. Thanks again!
Nice Lewis! Should’ve been one of the mags ages ago! Very pleasant viewing and a nice selection of stock for the video. Once again I must say great stock, beautiful scenery and a outstanding layout. Cheers Ross
Mouldy Raspberry no worries mate, I have my edition of the hornby mag ;) very interesting read, however looking at the dales and the trains not moving was off putting lol 😂 Cheers Ross.
Another lovely film! So relaxing to watch. It just all sits so well together and gives a wonderfully real feel that so many (myself included) struggle to achieve. Great article in HM as well. (Tried watching it in black and white.....wow!! Like a Pathe news reel!) Cheers Tony
Thanks Tony, appreciate it. Glad you liked the article. I also think it comes out well in black and white - I like watching those old films for a bit of inspiration sometimes.
Great work love the layout and the videos the sound Fx and sound editing are great, congratulations on your layout been shown in Hornby magazine, being in Australia wont see it for some time yet
Hi Lewis, It was really good to see you for the very first time on UA-cam with New Junction. Now we know what you look like. I like it the way you describe when you do your videos, it's more of how your dealing at the time of modeling, almost seeing it at first hand the way you do your recording. And hows that steam driver getting on hope is a lot dirtier 🤣 A massive hi 🖐 from your good friend Brian of Clydebank 👍😊
Hi Brian. Glad you liked the interview with Richard. They are, I’ve given them all a black wash, although they might need another to get honest. Still a bit bright. Thanks again Brian 😀
MR, I'm pleased to see you got a feature in Hornby magazine :-)) , you deserve the recognition, your model railway through the scenery and landscaping philosophy is bang-on, it's a refreshing change from the majority of YT layouts. You videos are also excellent, well edited, sounds, production etc. I been following your channel since its inception and, in my personal opinion, this is definitely the best layout on YT. Well done again and thanks for the videos. Paul
Once again amazing. Well don’t on getting in the magazine. My favourite part was the freight because personally I prefer freight and the loco was lovely.
Also could you maybe check out my channel please, I’ve only done two model railway videos so far but it would be nice if you wanted it :). My channel is ‘G Dean’ and my latest video is of a J50 and 56xx
I’ve just read your article in Hornby magazine, February edition, and was so intrigued I had to put the magazine down as early as page 29 to see the story in real life as it where. Fascinated by the story, iam now going to enjoy your videos on your Channel iam sure. Will watch with interest. Thank you for the Hornby story, now for the videos. Frank Hughes
Sorry I havn't commented for a while but you can be assured I always watch your uploads and enjoy them . Thanks for sharing :D Teddy PS Congrats on the magazine article :D
Hey Lewis, simply brilliant work, especially with those incredible sounds. Hope the likes of Hornby have been on the blower to you!! Have to agree with the other comments. Well done once again. Cheers, Greg
@@MouldyRaspberry Hey Lewis, I've just subbed to the online version of Hornby Magazine and seen the brilliant article of how you went about the layout build including your dedication to improvisation etc, well-done with the fantastic ideas; however when I went to the HM website to see the noted interview I was unable to see any link. Are you able to upload the HM interview link in your description above by any chance, please, as I would definitely like to see the HM video if at all possible? Many thanks, Greg
Hi Greg, I don’t think it’s been released yet. There’ll be one on Hornby Magazines channel (I think) and one on Richard’s (over at New Junction) UA-cam channel very soon
@@MouldyRaspberry Hey Lewis, thanks, my son and I have just seen the vid on Richard's channel. Great to see you in-person so to speak, but also learn more about the layout and future endeavours, not to forget the overall serene context of the YDMR ... as well as the usefulness of the kitty litter!. Well done and thanks again, Cheers, Greg
Another excellently edited film. Amazed I just read how basic your editor is to achieve what you do with the sound. Funny but on Wednesday I was saying to a friend your layout is in the next mag and mentioned you do not seem to run tender first often for a line like yours. Then today you have LOL. Hopefully my mag will be ready to pick up in my local model shop in the morning. Cover photo looks great.
Ha classic! I quite often do when I’m just running the layout, but you’re right, not so much when I’m filming. As you say, no turntables on a line like this so there would have been plenty of it. Thanks again mate, appreciate it.
Congratulations of the magazine recognition. I watched Richard's video visit last night. A loft with head height is on my list of priorities if I move house again! ;-) Hobbit railways are ok, but.........!
Congratulations on your magazine feature. I find your railway a source of inspiration even though I do garden railway ! A change of scale may follow due to an enforced house move though.
Thanks Garry. Wow I’d love to have an O gauge garden layout. I guess you have to bite the bullet and go for it when you have the chance, as as you say, the opportunity might not be there forever.
Hi Lewis. Great video as always. I've just watched the new junction visits mouldy Raspberry video. You are a bit younger than I imagined (no offence) which makes you and your wonderful layout more remarkable. The reason I say that is that you have learned /acquired and developed a lot of different skills in order to make this masterpiece of a layout. There is a lot of older modellers out there that can still only dream of the results that you alone have achieved. The long distance shots on the new junction video really helps to put your layout into a better perspective. Keep up the great work. Chris.
None taken Chris, a few people have said that actually. Richard said the same thing when he saw the layout. It’s hard to get a idea of what’s where really from the videos. That’s very kind of you to say so, so thanks. What’s certain is I’m still learning and acquiring them, I’ve still got a lot to learn 😀 plenty of time for that though. Thanks again mate.
This is a beautiful layout so realistic ,the background the figures ,the sound ,I find watching this so relaxing it takes me back to the halcyon days of the 40s and 50s.

Thanks Dave, appreciate it and glad you enjoyed!
12 mins of sheer joy Lewis. The rest of mere mortals have built a model railway, what you have done is build a model OF a railway.
Thank you Mike 😀
Always as delightful to view as the countryside it portrays. Best viewed where the modeling can be appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks Austin 👍🏻
Great tonic for my weekend viewing pleasure...love you’re layout and all it’s realism, cheers Chris

Thanks Alan, glad you enjoyed it 😀
I’ve really enjoyed seeing this layout come together and evolve into what it is now. It’s magnificent, and well done for getting it on the mag cover! The sound editing is also some of if not the best I’ve ever heard on a model railway video.
Thanks Daniel, appreciate it 😀
Good job getting in the magazine mate I'll grab a copy here in Oz👍
Thanks mate 😀
Good job. I liked the little conversations. I often add birds to mine too, even though it's a war layout. I like hearing them.
I like hearing them as well. Thanks!

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it.
Great work love the layout and the videos the sound Fx and sound editing are great, congratulations on your layout been shown in Hornby magazine, being in Australia wont see it for some time yet
Thanks very much Paul. Yeah I can imagine it takes some time to reach you guys!
Hi Lewis,
It was really good to see you for the very first time on UA-cam with New Junction.
Now we know what you look like.
I like it the way you describe when you do your videos, it's more of how your dealing at the time of modeling, almost seeing it at first hand the way you do your recording.
And hows that steam driver getting on hope is a lot dirtier 🤣
A massive hi 🖐 from your good friend Brian of Clydebank 👍😊
Hi Brian. Glad you liked the interview with Richard. They are, I’ve given them all a black wash, although they might need another to get honest. Still a bit bright. Thanks again Brian 😀
amazing video love the sound effects and massive congrats on being in hornby magazine
Thank you mate 👍🏻
MR, I'm pleased to see you got a feature in Hornby magazine :-)) , you deserve the recognition, your model railway through the scenery and landscaping philosophy is bang-on, it's a refreshing change from the majority of YT layouts. You videos are also excellent, well edited, sounds, production etc. I been following your channel since its inception and, in my personal opinion, this is definitely the best layout on YT. Well done again and thanks for the videos. Paul
Thank you Paul, appreciate it. Glad you like the videos 😀
Hi Lewis! Great camera angles! It looks like youre railfanning your own railroad!😃😆
Haha thanks Mike, I am!!!
Stunning as always will have to pick a copy of the magazine up keep up the good work👍
Thanks Ian 👍🏻
Congratulations on the article, well and truly deserved, but I am sure it cannot do justce to you videos which are fabulous.
Thank you Steve, appreciate it.
Very good model work, I especially love the scenery!
Thank you 😀
Great video again Lewis ,Iv'e still got that magazine i won't give that one away i read it again while in the office .
Thanks Tony, ha glad you liked it!
Once again amazing. Well don’t on getting in the magazine. My favourite part was the freight because personally I prefer freight and the loco was lovely.
Thank you! Speaking of that, I just managed to catch Black Five 44781 hauling some freight on the NVR this afternoon.
Ahh I bed that was nice. I do like Black Fives
Also could you maybe check out my channel please, I’ve only done two model railway videos so far but it would be nice if you wanted it :). My channel is ‘G Dean’ and my latest video is of a J50 and 56xx
Watched it* 😂
well done look forward to seeing it in the mag
Thanks John!
Magnifique prises de vue dans un decor splendide. l'atmosphere est tres bien restituer par le bruitage ou avez pris le son
Tres beau reseau bravo
Merci beaucoup, je l'apprécie vraiment!
I’m not normally given to expletives, but I must say this “stunningly” detailed and realistic. Great work.
Thanks very much 😀
I’ve just read your article in Hornby magazine, February edition, and was so intrigued I had to put the magazine down as early as page 29 to see the story in real life as it where. Fascinated by the story, iam now going to enjoy your videos on your Channel iam sure. Will watch with interest. Thank you for the Hornby story, now for the videos.
Frank Hughes

Thanks Teddy, appreciate it 😀
Hey Lewis, simply brilliant work, especially with those incredible sounds. Hope the likes of Hornby have been on the blower to you!! Have to agree with the other comments. Well done once again. Cheers, Greg
Thank you Greg, appreciate it mate 👍🏻
Wonderful evocotive layout , well done indeed
Thanks Barry👍🏻
Thanks Davie. I reckon so, it will save you a few concussions I’m sure!
Thanks for the info will watch it lucky guy Richard !!
Thanks mate!
Again excellent looks real
Thanks 😀
Well Done Lewis
Massive Hi🖐 from your Friend Brian 🤩👍
Thanks Brian 😀😀😀😀
Congratulations on your magazine feature. I find your railway a source of inspiration even though I do garden railway ! A change of scale may follow due to an enforced house move though.
Thanks Garry. Wow I’d love to have an O gauge garden layout. I guess you have to bite the bullet and go for it when you have the chance, as as you say, the opportunity might not be there forever.
Looks incredible
Thanks!
stunning.
Thanks Chris!
Very nice layout. I like :)
Thanks 😀
Another great video and just watched your interview with New junction, spoilt by two videos in one week.
Thanks Rich. Hope you liked it 👍🏻
wow that is awesome.i have subbed, thankyou
Thank you 😀
I'm impressed
Thanks Adam!
