A lovely routine from the time where floor exercise routines were more graceful and and ballet-like, not like the fast-paced powerhouse routines of today. Even the music sounded like something from a ballet class! What happened to this incredibly talented young woman was so tragic and 100% avoidable. She had the misfortune of living in a time in her country's history, when the Soviets were so determined to prove that their athletes were the best in the world, that they would push them to the brink of their physical and emotional limits to do so. Elena didn't deserve what happened to her! I hope that she somehow found real happiness later on in her life, even with her paralysis!

I mean, the Americans did have someone jump with literally a broken leg for the same reasons

It's how she didn't even need a very powerful take off to start tumbling. She was so grateful and elegant. Continue to sleep in peace

I agree but we also have to remember they were having the olympics in their own country in 1980. They wanted to show they were superior over the Romanians. They especially wanted the all around title back and they knew mukhina would get good scores because of her reputation and personality.
Her paralysis was the beginning of gymnasts being “carefully” watched for abuse and now it has come to a climax with Larry Nassar.

MizMamie...in the description you say this is an exhibition in the USA.
However, are you certain it’s America ?
The voice of the man who introduces Elena and also speaks at the end of her performance has a very English accent, not an American accent.
I therefore feel this display could actually be in London, England?

I'm a musician and I hear a number of well-known melodies linked together in the music for her. This is commonly done for gymnastics to follow the different parts of the routine rather than playing just one song all the way through.
