I found a Paul Sellers mallet inside a log

- I wanted to see if I could make a Paul Sellers joiner’s mallet out of firewood. I took an Ash log, split it, and started to shape it into a mallet. A mallet is a must have tool for woodworking and I should have made one a long time ago.
I used a lot more power tools than Paul did in his videos because that is what I know. Some of the cuts I make on the table saw are a little unorthodox and not recommended. You should use your judgment and only do what feels safe to you.

The lumberjack shirt looks good on you doctor 👍
If you can't chop good you should at least look good.
nice big wooden hammer 👍👍
Thank you
Sort the wobbly bench and it'll be easier :)
Thanks Ian. That was my first time planing on that bench. I definitely need to trim one of the legs.
Upon further investigation the frame and legs are racking. Hopefully a sheet of plywood screwed to the stretchers will sort it out.
And if you are resourcing your own boards, put a jointer planer at the top of your purchase list. As wide as you can get in my opinion. (I went with a 12-inch planer). And I made a mistake buying my drill press. It only drills down two inches. Please tell me they make them that can go a lot deeper. You have no idea what I had to do to drill through five inches of laminated wood, twice.
Not a lot deeper. I think 3½" is the most you'll find in a home shop.
Was that cedar elm?
Ash, the beetles are wiping them out everywhere in the US.
I have started a mallet on a hole filled piece of plum trunk. Like you, I am splitting with an axe to start. But it is just too dang cold out there right now.@@HouseDoctorRay
Good luck. That fruit wood is very hard to work.
Too bad you don't have a jointer.
