From my perspective, when he said that, my thought process was he was unintentionally playing with the girls since the girls took the relationship seriously and that didn’t seem right to me. I have a better perspective now and can understand it more clearly but before this was my view point and as mentioned before, I apologize if anyone was triggered or offended by this
