I kinda have to wonder why most of the Russian lullaby’s I’ve seen and heard sound really cool in their own language the English subbed it turns out to be creepy. And they are suppose to be lullaby’s sung to little children.
i don't think that tili tili bom is actually a real folklore lullaby, as far as I'm concerned it was recorded for some kind of russian horror film.
I think, that some russian lullabies use some underlying folklore motives; for example the whole plot of bayushki bayu is constructed on the old belief that small children don't belong to the world of living because they've entered it not so long ago, and the images of the wolf and the forest represent death. I don't know how it is in non-slavic speaking countries, but originally in slavic languages lullabies were some kind of spells to protect children from any kind of misfortunes.
The more modern lullabies, that were deliberately written by a certain author (for example, those written during the Soviet period) don't always follow this fashion, but some of relatively older ones - do, in a sense. For example, Kossak Lullaby (Казачья колыбельная песня), written by Lermontov in 1838, tells about mother singing to her son about him growing up well and becoming a kossak and bogatir (богатырь) and her worrying and giving him sanctified icons for protection.

Russian here, and as a fan of lullabies I wouldn't say they are creepy in their entirety. This specific one was written for the russian horror movie called The Lineman, and in horror movies everything is creepy, lullabies included. Take Nightmare on Elm Street, for example - a horror movie with a creepy lullaby in it. The kids' stuff is easy to turn creepy - toys, songs, etc.
Like someone here said, it’s creepy because it’s meant to be in a movie or something like that. By I do have to agree that there some creepy lullabies that my parents sang me to sleep with. There is one that talks about how you shouldn’t sleep on the edge of the bed because a wolf could come and bite you... why do they do that😂
As a Russian, I can tell you that in my childhood, my grandmother sang me a lullaby, which spoke of children dying in their sleep

Back when I was 3 in Russia, I don’t know when this song came out but, my mama would sing me a song at night that had these same exact lyrics and she sung them in the exact same way. I am now 14 living in America with my adoptive parents and this still haunts me…

I've heard the original Russian version of it and (I am Greek , I didn't understand a word) and for some reason it made me tear up a little. I finally saw the translation and I am wondering if Russian lullabies are to make children sleep , or keep them awake all night . It sounds wonderful to me , but I think it would scare me if I was a kid.

From what I recall, 'Tili Tili Bom' is not an authentic lullaby, but originates from a Russian horror film. They do have one warning about children who sleep partway outside their blankets being dragged off and eaten by a wolf, though.

@@Maria-hy1gw It technically is a Russian lullaby, but it was specifically written for a horror movie called "Trackman" in 2007. Not that creepy lullabies don't exist, but this one pushes the envelope waaay too far for the average four-year-old. (Or, um, thirty-year-old. Pick an age, any age. XD)

My mother sung the original lullaby in russian to me. It was pretty simple to sleep with that. You didn't hear russians fairy tales. My favorite one was about how animals fell into yawner and the fox just killed the others and get out over their corpses.
