    Ok.Ok.Ok. lol people are so ignorant. They must have not had to read Holt's books and watch DVD's and try to learn. This is the best learning platform I have found in 18 years. 84 on Tx journeyman first time, about to take my masters with the help of FAST TRAX black. Keep up the good work!! We love ya Paul.

      Hey friends ive been looking for an education platform to help me keep my skills up across the code book as i feel every year i become a little less confident in the skills i dont use at this particular job, passing the test is one thing but interpreting 725 in real practical context or talking about the nuaince of how a calculation should be done when filling a permit or looking at exemptions is a whole different world, do you offer a program that is just catered to passing the test or can you help me stay sharp on my skills and the code book across the board?

    great help, so many use ac for largest motor when heat is used to calculate service. also service conductor and neutral sizing as well as grounding eq and electrode . great help even a non electrician should be able to understand.

    Hi Paul Abernathy at Master The NEC,
    Thank you for the informative video on performing electrical load calculations for single-family dwellings. I noticed that in your example, there was no mention of factoring continuous loads at 125%. According to NEC guidelines, continuous loads, which are expected to run for three hours or more, should be calculated at 125% when sizing conductors and overcurrent protection.
    Could you please clarify whether this was taken into account in your calculations? If not, could you explain why it might not be necessary in the context you provided, or perhaps provide an example of how to incorporate this factor for continuous loads?
    Thank you!

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  3 місяці тому +1

      There are no continuous loads in service calculations for single family dwellings. Nothing in a dwelling in terms of service calculations would rise to qualify as such. Now, we are not talking about branch circuit sizing to water heaters and so on...we are talking service load calculations.

    So at marker 32:50, you state electric cooking equipment isn't required, but isn't having cooking provisions part of what the NEC defines a dwelling unit? Or does that just mean a dwelling has to have a dedicated area to prepare food (a kitchen)?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  Рік тому +1

      What is stated is nothing requires permanent electric cooking equipment, such as to account for the VA in the laid calculation or electric dryers, since folks have used clothes lines for centuries. The definition of "Kitchen" does not specify Gas, Electric, Wood Stove, etc. As long as its cooking it can help define a Kitchen. The point was about calculating the loads for a dwelling and nothing requires electric ranges and so on. However, when installed it has to be accounted for in the loans calculation.

    Great information. Where would I include a hot tub? Just the motors in appliances? What about the heating circuit? Can in exclude it?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  10 місяців тому

      Greetings - No, you can't just exclude the load. You would do your normal calculation and then add the hot tub to the total VA. So, nameplate x volts will yield a VA value. Add this additional VA for the hot tub to your standard dwelling calculation.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  Рік тому +2

      If that item has an individual branch circuit then it would simply be added to the overall load prior as no demand factors in Part III would apply as stated in 220.40. In a Part IV application it would go under 220.82(B)(3)(a).

    Are well, septic, and circulation pumps added any differently?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  5 місяців тому

      They are simply loads you must account for. Specific loads other than what has been shown would be covered in 220.14(A).

    When does state testing for the 2023 NEC go into effect? I’m due to register for my masters but I want to make sure I am prepared.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  Рік тому

      Well, that depends on the state you are in. If you are in Texas that started on September 1, 2023 for the 2023 NEC. As for any other state you would need to contact the testing agency in the state in question and ask them what edition they are testing on.

    Where do you account for an Electric Vehicle Charging Station? Would that be considered a “Fastened-In-Place Appliance”?

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  Рік тому +1

      I would apply it under Part III Standard Method via 220.14(A). For Part IV Optional Method I would certainly consider it a appliance when trying to capture that load. After all, we have to account for it somewhere.

      Virginia is still on 2017 NEC. However, I can't guarantee my accuracy on that as I don't monitor states, that's your responsibility. Once you find out by contacting your state texting authority you can then visit www.FastTraxSystem.com and choose our Exam Prep programs, Budget, Black, or Plus.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  Рік тому

      This would similar to the previous question I answered on another post. Just because it's not mentioned in Part III , it still needs accounting for as an item covered in 220.14(A). It still has to be accounted for.

  • @CrossTimbersSon

    Unfortunately, it seems that tankless water heaters and EV chargers are being installed to existing single family dwellings without considering service load calculations.

    • @MasterTheNEC
      @MasterTheNEC  10 місяців тому

      Indeed. However, it's fairly easy to assess the loads and determine if the existing service is adequate. I might do a video and show how that is done but it also would be as simple as redoing the entire dwellings calc and add the new loads and see what happens. Good news is optional method will more than likely give some room.
