Love your coverage of Queen videos!! Who could watch that and not get emotional? Also I love how you pointed out that English is not the first language for many people who listen to Queen. That's one of the things I love about Queen, they have fans in every corner of the globe, as well they should!
Queen holds the record for the largest paying audience ever - 250,000 in Rio. He also was asked by a reporter what instrument he played, and he answered "I play the audience." SOOOOOO TRUE!
They sing in English, and Freddie thanks them in Portuguese, naturally. Can you imagine one man, Freddie, standing on the stage and holding all those thousands of people in the palm of his hand?Amazing!!!
This is the second night in Rio 1985. Love of my life from the first night is more intensive for me, you can see and hear how impressed Freddie and Brian are by the crowd.

Only Freddie Mercury could face a crowd and without singing a note have them singing Queen’s song in English. It really is remarkable. And when he bows, you feel the love and appreciation he had for them. As you feel it for every crowd in every video of him you have ever seen. No need to apologize for your emotions. It grips my heart every time I listen to it. It is moving. Between Freddie's voice and Bri's guitar, there are no words. And that amazing crowd, wow! Thanks for your very real, genuine reaction. 🤩💓
They still play this song and the audience still sings it. I don’t know if you noticed the stool beside Brian where Freddie sits sometime but they still put the empty chair out and bring Freddie back on the big screen to sing the last verse!! Real tear jerker!!

Rock in Rio 85' happened in two days. On the first night (the one in the video) the audience was approximately 480 thousand people and on the second night, another 250,000 people attended the shows. Imagine the feeling of hearing a crowd of almost half a million people (who don't speak English) sing for you, in your own language?
Freddie was a rock opera genius. He gave so much love to his audience. In this performance you can see how happy he is when the audience of literally thousands of people, return that love back to Freddie. I believe this song and the audience's reaction may have been one of the highlights of Freddie's many performances. In my opinion Freddie has the ability to bring his audience TO him rather than singing AT them. Queen is an absolute delight to watch and listen to; they're a group of such talented individuals and I find it fascinating to watch how they compliment each other. Thank you so much for your great comments! Your reaction was perfect!! Sincerely, Anne Craycroft

Thank you Fella for an emotional reaction to a beautiful song written by Freddie for his then girlfriend Mary. I'm sure if you have seen the BR movie, you will no doubt already know this.
Great performance of my favorite love anthem and Queen song and as always with Freddie killin' the vocals with Brian on guitars feeling the crowd. Thanks, Hap!
Yes! He includes us in the music! Genius. Queen kept us in mind as they wrote their songs. They knew music was universal. So grateful to them. Great reaction.
This is one of my favourite songs (aren't they all?!?) if you could give a listen to You Take My Breath Away 1976 live at Hyde Park. I think you will like it Just Freddie and the piano. thanks for this one! love your reactions. Freddie wrote this song for Mary Austin, the love of his life. She was with Freddie through it all.
@Karen C The song wasn't written for Mary Austin. It's a common misconception fuelled again by the movie. Freddie never said anything about his songs, they were always open for interpretation. He also never said that Mary was the love of his life, another lie that was fuelled by the movie because it was more important to get homophobic butts in the seats than telling the truth. That Freddie was a homosexual man who was pressured into having "normal" realtinoships by his parents and society back in the 70's. Until 1967 being homosexual in the UK was a crime that could lead into prison time. Mary and Freddie were lifelong firends and as Mary said herself in the short time they lived together it was more like a brother/sister relationship. Freddie left her in early 1976 after he found David Minns, his first real boyfriend, in 1975. After that he was always with men because he was finally free to live his true self after years of repression amd anguish. To remember Freddie it is also important to respect him as a homosexual man who's songs showed his struggles and self-loathing. Somebody To Love is one of those songs, Bohemian Rhapsody and especially It's A Hard Life just a few examples. It's always been said that his emotional struggles were the fuel to his brilliant songs. Even Brian and Roger have written songs where Freddie could sing about his proclivities without being too obvious about it, like Fat Bottom Girls, Save Me for example. Freddie mever really hid his sexuality and admitted it in interviews. Unfortunately homophobia is still strong and people rather deny this aspect of him and try to put him into the heteronormative box. As someone who grew up with Queen in the 70's we were all aware of it and most interestingly no one was really affected by it back in the days. We loved him and still love him the way he was, warts and all. Not only because he was a genius musician with a still unmatched voice but because he was a lovely human being, kind, funny, honest and generous, who invited people to look past sexuality, race, colour and gender and just see human beings struggling like all of us. It seems in this day and age people have forgotten about that.
@@carmenfelton3171 agree 100% to your comment. as a child of the 60's, I was forbidden to attend any of their concerts until I moved away from home and made my own decisions. My parents told me 'people like that" I do not need to listen to or watch!!! And yes I am aware that this song, according to John Reid and other sources, was written for David Minns, who was Freddie's lover. However, as with most of Queen songs, there is no clear interpretation as to what they were written for or who. There are conceptions, yes, as in Bohemian Rhapsody and those saying that its Freddie's 'coming out' song. People can interpret their own meanings to the songs. Alot of us older Queen fans do just that. Have you ever attended one of the Queen Conventions either in the USA or in the Uk? if you haven't, you should consider it. they are alot of fun
