Robben Island

Robben Island is an island in Table Bay off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. It is of particular note that it was here that Nobel Laureate and former President of South Africa Nelson Mandela and former South African President Kgalema Motlanthe, alongside many other political prisoners, spent 27 years imprisoned during the apartheid era. Among those political prisoners was current South African President Jacob Zuma who was imprisoned there for ten years. In the video I tour the island and prison. At the end of the video I visit Drakenstein Correctional Centre which was formerly Victor Verster Prison, the prison from which Nelson Mandela was released.

If the government was less corrupt he would’ve sparked more tourist interest into this land and built a bridge that connects it to the mainland for a more easy access of both tourists and residents and could’ve initiated infrastructure and housing developments for more citizens but then again this was is Africa.

Nelson Mandela did not spent 27 years in Robben Island

Mandela spent 27 year in prison soon after back from Tanzania in a scret jouney in 1963 he imprisoned untill 1990 so this is almost 27 years in jail
