Sometimes you see a "how to" video and realize that there's no way in hell you can do it and make it look good. This is one of those times. Tim really knows his stuff. I know I can't do what he does, but the talk about using PVC foam and sheet was informative for some lesser, easier projects I want to do. Thanks for making this video.

What thickness PVC sheets are they?
Truly amazing to watch an artist work. I too am a craftsman but I've never had the opportunity to work with PVC foam or expensive leather, but I really appreciate the chance to watch. I work in woods and steel but nothing nearly this exotic. You have inspired me to attempt a console for my 89 F150. Nothing too fancy but I have a better understanding of how to approach the challenge. I especially appreciate the lessons in planning. Nothing goes in that can't come out, I like that, and I'm sure it will help me. Since it's my first console, I'll give it a couple of months of thought before I start to design. Fortunately, I don't do this for a living, so I can afford to be completely comfortable with acquiring parts and developing a design, before I start. I know these are things that you have repeated and learned from so many times. You make it look so easy but then that's the difference between a beginner like me and a pro like your. Keep up the great work.

Glad to see something made without using fiberglass molds. Nothing beats hand made to fit each vehicle. As you're sure to get that eagle eye treatment.

MrKboat, Respectfully, I think he's actually asking a leading and well considered simple *stream of questions that may appear 'simple' when in-fact they are open-ended to provide the builders the opportunity to describe (and connect) their craft and how they how they approach their work. It is not obvious but take a look again this or another vid from this perspective. No assumptions, a lot of information get passed on and an enjoyable rapport. 22min unbroken. Since every one is custom every fold and seam is a challenge, tweek, and opportunity. From what adhesive is used -very important. "Will there be storage in there?" Sure.. but he is deferring. IMO the guy is ridiculously humble and is smart to let the pro talk. Yes, he is not asking, "DId you go with a flat tappet or a roller cam and why not Carrillo rods?" If you notice, his vids always flow well which is usually not the sign of the uninformed. I get what your saying 100%, when he does not know too. He is always sharp to get the subject flushed out. I am a fan for the same reasons. We must have similar taste. FTW.
I wish there was UA-cam when I was in high school. In 1978 I had to find people who could teach me, or try ti figure it out from articles in Hot Rod Magazine. You do great work. Thanks for the video.

It's all done with PVC Sheet and Heat...The side parts are cut out of the same stuff....it gets flexible when you heat it...when it cools...it gets stiff again when it cools....

Very nice work. But on a positive note, you can do this at home guys and for cheap! Don't be discouraged by the 20k price. He's earned that from having years of experience but this can be done for less than 50$ without the cost of leather of coarse. You could wrap in many things tho. And you can build the frame with sheetmetal, wood, plastic old signs(ha). Keep it simple. And then be proud of your shit. Thanks Scotty

We did that with a pontoon I bought for 500. 300 in material. A buddy tinkered with the motor [free] .so for 800 and a little time we sold it for little 5k. I like your thinking!
Any idea what he used to shape the insert and get it to hold it's shape?

Great Video, also when you complete the console, how do you attach it to the base of the car? Is it bolted or does the weight and snugness just keep it there?

Most likely bolted to the frame or the floor to ensure that it wont mov out of place
Chandler Gaines I've used everything from simple L brackets with self tapping screws on my first build to custom molded fiberglass/reinforced body filler with imbedded hurricane nuts and L bracket for strength in odd locations where more contact area was needed. Basically I took the L bracket and extended it using fiberglass cloth/ Matt and reinforced body filler to even out the shape. One of them with 4 mounting holes kind of looked like Boba Fetts ship slave 1
Chandler Gaines Bolted. If its not bolted it acts as a projectile and all that hard work goes literally out the windshield in the case of an accident.

Thank you very much for this video and sharing this talent. Engine building, body work, and other aspects I have done for years. I have just started getting into the interior work and you made this very easy to understand how leather reacts to heat and glue. My latest project is a 91 Pick-up and I am going to try and match your console techniques. (First pick-up after 9 F Bodies). The first thing I learned was the fact that leather is too damn expensive, but still cheaper than farming out the work. Thanks again for posting. Seriously, I can't say enough about people who share the skills they have spent years developing.

I have built one console in my years for a '93 Plymouth Voyager. Needed a two way radio console for a series of four radios and a controller for a light bar. Made it out of 1/4" plywood and had it professionally upholstered in a matching vinyl leatherette. Had a pair of cigarette lighters on the back side and a drop down panel in the front to hold the fuse block for the radios. It was equipped with a lid that folded to the back that could be removed when in the field for emergency work. Wish I had kept the console when I sold the van.

Freakin awesome vid, just finished going to school for custom interiors and so many people leave out little details in their vids. I watch pretty much everyones videos in an effort to learn what TO DO and what NOT TO DO..lol...everyone has different techniques and it helps me to develop my own. Again, Great Video!!

Love the workmanship, I use 3mm (1/8") plywood as I have high ambient temperatures.and vinyl as leather is so expensive in Spain and it shrinks in the heat, but I learnt a few pointers.

Thanks for this. I am a DIY fanatic and have been re-habbing the interior of my older Tacoma truck, hence stumbling in here in wanting to make a new custom center console (and ditch the old plastic one).

11 years and this video is still relevant. Here I am wanting to build custom consoles not knowing I can use PVC instead of wood. It makes perfect sense in case of moisture.

DAAAng! That just gave me the inspiration to make a camel leather console for my 78 Trans am 4 speed, and build a pimp one around a sweet 60's clock I found for my girl Irma along with a better package tray area, thanks and I am a fan of this channel for sure.

I do my own interior. Started when I was 16 that's where I learned the in an out and learned the mistakes. I give credit to this guy. His work is great. You get rewarded accordingly for the outcome. Hes restoring and prefabricating 25.000 to 65.000 rides not a do it yourself rattle spray paint can car.
