Where I live there is a 'ZERO WASTE' scheme which is run by volunteers. They collect food from retailers, which can't be sold as the date is run out but is too good for landfill... It's brilliant, I haven't bought bread for months ... they also do family bags by application which contain stuff that would suit families. I just wait on a Sunday and have a good old gossip with others in the queue... Budget book absolutely makes sense... been doing it for years.

    Hi there,
I bought my husbands favorite teabags the other day from Aldi, it’s the tea that the monkeys used to advertise, just incase I’m not allowed to say the brand, they were £5.49 for the big box which is normal but when I got home I noticed it didn’t have the usual 240 teabags in it, there was only 210 now??? Quite a difference for the same price and indeed the same sized packaging, be careful out there, they are all doing it no matter the brand, great video, thank you

We have started buying frozen fish. Initially for health reasons because the fish is frozen on the boat or soon after being caught. Fresh fish in supermarkets can be up to 14 days old before it reaches the shelves. But the big bonus is that frozen fish is much cheaper and Farm Foods frozen fish is the best quality we have found so far.

My grand kids find fizzy pop a treat ( they are only allowed it now and again) so when they come to Nanna's I make fruit juice with soda water... they love it ... much less expensive than cans and much less sugar.

I still buy salmon but I buy the salmon bits/ends - Sainsburys and Lidl definitely do these - mis shapen bits of fillet which can be separated and are still absolutely fine to grill/ put in fish pie.
I still make a roast most weeks as my son and dad come round on a Sunday, I just buy the joints that are on offer from main supermarkets and slice what’s left and freeze for other meals xx

So many good ideas! We do our budget at the beginning of each year, we do look back 3 months and get our “number” since I became vegetarian and hubby is so-so , our food budget has remained about the same for the last 3 years! I am a maniac when it comes to buying sales only, also we eat lentils once a week ( it divides into 3 meals for the two of us).

How right you are, shop less often. Im guilty of shopping small but often, always end up buying more than my list. Also alarmingly after 3 years of tracking my food spend...i know its sad 😂 ...i stopped this year as i know what i spend as an average but my food bill in January was 40% above my average, all because i wasnt tracking it....just shows

My last Too Good To Go bag was from Morrisons in Corby (uk). It was very poor. It contained 25 bagels, potato cakes, crumpets, two packs of fresh coriander and parsley and a pack of salad potatoes. No variety at all. It’ll be a while before I think about getting another bag

Brilliant video as always thank you! Just a note re: subscription boxes. I was introduced by free box promo with 25% off for some weeks thereafter. Within this promo. I am definitely saving money, saves my visits to shops where I get distracted and there is absolutely no food waste. Also the portions are generous and I can divide the whole cooked meal (for 2 people) into 3 and freeze. I bulk out with veg from freezer. When the promo finishes it might be a different story but for now its very enjoyable. Perhaps I'll hop to another company promo?

My 23 year old son who is also my carer has a severe nut and sesame allergy. He had an awful attack before Christmas and now he has unfortunately food anxiety and it's horrendous. My older son lives up the road and he's always cooked from scratch because that's what we have always done. I have awful arthritis and I buy frozen veg. We go shopping once a week now because we were spending a fortune. Ordering out is so expensive and due to my son's allergies we don't trust it to be safe. I do Slimming world and I've lost 2 stone so far but it's all about cooking from scratch. When I cook jacket potatoes I batch cook them because it's much cheaper than buying the ready baked ready frozen ones. I do try to do a larger batch at this time of year due to the potato season. I have always cooked for a lot of people and I've been finding it difficult to shop for a lesser amount. I am of course trying to adjust and when I cook I send my eldest son a few portions and also freeze some. When you mentioned about batch cooking I agree but if you have health issues you can just try to double or triple the amount per evening meal and build up freezer meals that way.
If there are just 2 of you and you find you are not using a full loaf before it goes off just divide it and freeze some. Look at wartime recipes and techniques too, it's surprising what you can learn. Wartime cake recipes didn't use a lot of sugar or fat due to rationing and I used to make my kids carrot buns for their lunch boxes. They are different to carrot cake and of course they don't contain nuts. We have all got to do what we can because no matter what we are told by the government and the media things aren't going to get better soon. We shop at more than 1 store because where I live they are close enough to each other so that it won't make it more expensive in petrol. Planning what you have to buy from each shop is the key and remembering to take your shopping bags helps😂

😅😅 The only tights I wear now are knitted ones or the really thick 50 dernier ones for M&S. They don't last more than a wear or two if I buy the thin ones.

Pesonally I think its cheaper to feed a big family. Before you scream. We are a couple. With a son who visits every weekend. And a father in law who we feed too. On a sunday.... i cook a huge ham....15e.....and a chicken 6e. Big pot of spuds, 2 cabbages, bag of carrots. Last weekend....we got 5 dinner's on sun, 5 dinners on monday. 3 dinners on Tuesday. Had lunches for 3 days. 2 dinners for dogs. Brouth made stock for elderly dogs.i must add im feeding two addive big 6ft 5 men. Its cheaper for us to use and cook a joint of neat than buying that shit in packets😂
