  • Special thanks to ‪@DrummerboysWashersAndMore‬ for making this possible! It's an honor to host your video on LA!
    Talk about a special video! Today's Laundromat Adventure takes us to Laundry World where we get to see a 1970's (!) Dexter WCA20 washer-extractor wash 3 full size sheets on Heavy Duty 1.
    This machine did a good job, though it's apparent that the water pressure is quite poor at this location. Other than that, this machine did the job well, and the sheets came out nice and clean!
    Filmed @ Laundry World. This place was extremely run down with less than half of the machines operational. However, what did work worked well enough, and the place was kept quite clean overall. The staff were also friendly, which is a nice bonus. Despite the very poor overall condition, there are worse places you could choose to do laundry.

    Would have no problem owning a front loader like this. These are very thorough.

      Only barely! This laundromat is extremely run down, only four of the 11 of these machines were still running. A lot of them were cannibalized for parts to keep the others running.
      What did work was in acceptable condition, but more than half of the machines at this location didn't work. Seems like the laundromat was run by a single person so that could be why, doing this on your own isn't easy.

      Ive had a similiar experience, i once visited an 90s laundrette that had 13 machines in total, in summer ONLY 3 of them were in working condition and 2 in these 3 were working with problems. The place looked ancient and abandoned but it did get the job done, now after so many years its been renovated by a new owner. I am gonna miss it's old machines though still.

      I tell you, the moment Drummerboy reached out and asked if I'd be interested in making this happen, it was an instant "yes!"
      Super unique machine for sure, very much unlike what's usually seen on the channel. It did a surprisingly good job too!
      Thanks for watching!

    Awesome video, a laundromat near me has 2 of these machines. Unfortunantly both have been defunct since 2016 or earlier as in the pics showing those washers in 2017 both were broken. But hey at least their still there so i technically got to see these rare beauties in person, even if their not operational.

    Wow! What a rare machine! Too bad it's on its last legs...
    I love all the videos on your channel! The video and editing quality are very high, and they are not lengthy or voring at all!
    Also, love it when you collab with people. It allows you to show off more unique washers from across the country. 😁

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  6 місяців тому

      Yeah this place is definitely run down, this particular machine was in good working order, but many around it were not.
      Thanks for the kind words! My goal with LA is to be the most diverse and consistently high quality collection of laundromat videos on the platform. My editing philosophy is to be informative but not intrude on the main content. It's why there are no flashy graphics, music (except in the outro or I need to mute something), or sound effects.
      The collabs are part of what makes this initiative possible. I can't constantly travel to laundromats, but many around me can, and I'm grateful for everyone who films content for LA. Big shout to everyone who's helped make this happen!
      Thanks for watching and I'm glad you continue to enjoy LA. There's a lot more to come!

    II didn’t know Dexter made washers like this

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  6 місяців тому +2

      Technically they didn't as these are actually made by Bendix. Bendix owned Dexter for a while, and this product is a result of that.

    • @CrestwoodRocks
      @CrestwoodRocks 6 місяців тому +3

      This was before Dexter's Speed Queen Pat. Pend. era. These older washers here was when Dexter was in the Philco/Bendix/Ford Motor Company era.

      I like the fact that it tumbles in one direction and not two. Proper lift and drop. I remember these machines under Bendix as a kid in the mid to late 70s but they had the porcelain wash tubs like the earlier home models did.

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  6 місяців тому +1

      @@patcola7335 back when things were built to last! Would have been cool to see one of these with the porcelain tub but it sounds like that was mostly reserved for residential.

    • @patcola7335
      @patcola7335 6 місяців тому

      @@LaundromatAdventures I imagine those stainless steel tubs are probably thick and solid. I think porcelain looks nicer but stainless steel is more practical and you don't have the problem of chipping and rusting.

    Dexter stopped manufacturing these washers in about 1998, just before I got into the business.
    .
    The timer advances on these machines without the water level being satisfied. That’s why the water didn’t shut off until the wash was almost done, and they rinsed poorly because they barely filled by the time the timer advanced. I wonder if the store has water pressure issues or the screens in the water hoses were clogged. In earlier PB versions, the water inlet was at the top center of the porthole, so the stream was directly down onto the tumbling clothes.

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  5 місяців тому +1

      This instance of poor filling was due to poor water pressure at this location.
      Thanks for washing and the info!

    That dexter is very vintage and wow! Also, what is bendix?

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  6 місяців тому +1

      Philco-Bendix is the original manufacturer of this machine; dexter was formerly owned by Bendix.
      Eventually they broke off of Bendix and began making the machines we all know today, but their Bendix era is very interesting.

    Are these related to Electrolux in any way? As it slightly resembles the old “FriGEmore” front loaders made by Electrolux from the late 90s to early 2000s. I know in Europe bendix is owned by Electrolux so.

    What is 50G spin?

    • @LaundromatAdventures
      @LaundromatAdventures  6 місяців тому

      Commercial washers generally refer to their spin performance in G-force rather than RPM. In this case, this machine spins at 50G.
      The technical manual for this machine states that the speed in RPM is 370.
