You have an important message to be shared. I think a lot of people fantasise Japanese culture and what it is like to live in Japan, i know that I did a little. Culture shock affects people in different ways. Japan is just another country with it's own pros and cons.
In terms of class allocation, same thing happened for me when I went to Japan, I was put into beginner class even though I had been studying for almost 2 years. Even though I was 'learning' things that I had already learnt I was also learning new things along side. I was able to learn real Japanese which is spoken or written rather than what I call 'textbook Japanese'.

So incredibly true....Japan is just another place in the world, a beautiful place, but I think a lot of people put in on a pedestal due to how different it is from where they are from. After living here, you realize the people here are just like the people back home, just a different cultural upbringing. Also the textbook vs. real word Japanese gap is so huge! I really want to be able to speak, so that'll be my next step now that my semester is over.

Hi Juliette! This is a super delayed response but the answer is...I don't know exactly! Which is why I probably don't have a strong enough "why" behind my Japanese study, if I was in a relationship with a Japanese guy, or living here long term, I'd probably have a lot of fire under my butt. However, I'm moving to New Zealand with my boyfriend next year so I don't have as much fire...since I'm not staying in Japan. However, I'd love to use Japanese in my job one day, I have almost finished my PR degree and will be getting a job in the field in NZ next year. :D
