I feel as if Kage is somewhat of a voice for the fandom, or at least could be. Personally, I feel like many people think being a fur is this trendy thing that started like 5 years ago or something, and Kage retelling the history of the fandom brings a smile to my face.
I'm using this video and Rhoades's "Spectral Shadows" blog for my history research paper on Fandom history. There really aren't that many sources for this kinda stuff, esp for a 2000's kid like I was. There are some conflicting points on both terms, but I trust Rhoades more because his information has been being collected longer, is more detailed, and isn't an old fart on the screen trying to remember his past :-p (that last point was a joke. I don't mean to offend Kage). Both sources are pretty useful, tho, so I'm grateful.
*pulls out his fact-checking book* 9:49 -- ConFurence 0 was in 1989 and was a test convention. It was not a "garage party." 24:38 -- This did not happen as far as I can remember. I was in the audience for the Pet Auction and I video taped the entire thing. I watched it several times over the years. No one was ushered off the stage by Kage or anyone else. I'll dig the tape up and convert it to digital if I can find a means, but I'm pretty good with my memory, and no one was ushered off. Why Kage is issuing this falsehood is beyond me.
"There was no internet back then" Stop reminding us all that we are getting older. I miss the time where it was high tech, polite, and clever, to leave a hand written note if you leave the house as the last one in.
We need more texas conventions! Seriously theres only 2 now acfi in san Antonio and tff in dallas. I would love to see one started in Houston or even Galveston

Yup. CF0 was in a Holiday Inn. I was there.
Different year maybe?
All the furry parties I know of up to that point were held at science fiction and comic conventions.
Interesting.
was the rest of the video factual? Perhaps his memory lapsed on those two events
When it´s 2020 and he had to do the latest of his talks on a stream.
Looking back, that projection for 10K is a big "oof".

At the end he talks about 2020. Ironically the one year AC has had to be cancelled. 😅
We did hit 10,000 attendees last year though I believe. 😁
I have the AAC 98 video where he is asked to be Chair. Even being "pounced" by Torrell's "Macro Paw"
Pitsburg had the furry convention and also the G9 convention.
Everyone wants rather a furry convention than a G9 convention!
what's G9?
ahh, sorry. I ment the G20 summit

Who is the man that's talking? What's his name?
Uncle Kage, or Samuel Conway
or the wine lord
Holy shit I was a furry back then
Middle Earth isn't so bad, we make better wine than the French do in New Zealand. 😀Beating them at their own awards.
Aw... the good ole days of Anthrocon. Seems like so many years ago.
it fun that
furry yay
Awesome video I love it
