    With things like Pokémon and power rangers still going on indefinitely it really undermines how absolutely huge goosebumps was to a 90s kid

      Very true. Though it seems that in recent years the popularity and nostalgia for it has really grown quite a lot, which is great to see. With Disney+ doing a new TV series next year, I think the popularity will only grow.

    Your videos have inspired me to start collecting these types of books and I found a whole bunch recently including a choose-your-own-adventure Goosebumps book. Best of both worlds!

    Thanks for the video! I actually ended up grabbing 14 of the Strange Matter books at a used book store not long ago. I knew of many Goosebumps knock-offs growing up, but never could afford to buy many of them. Now I'm trying to make up for lost time, but they've gotten harder to find.

      That's great! I'm glad to hear you're getting enjoyment out of collecting them. Ebay and even Etsy are really great places to find a lot of the more rare kids horror books for pretty decent prices. I actually picked up a bunch of the Fright Time books from Ebay the other day so I can finally check them out for myself!

    I still have quite a few of the Fright Time books! My favorite story from them was called "Who Am I?" It had a pretty cliche ending, but I still loved it!

    There is also Fear Street ,The Ghosts Of Fear Street, and The Nightmare Room which are also a horror anthology series that written by R.L. Stien. The Nightmare Room got a live action adaptation on Kid's WB back in the day and it lasted for 13 episodes. Ghosts Of Fear Street had a pilot episode but never got an anthology series because people thought it was too goofy. It doesn't mean we cannot still like them. Right?

    I'm surprised you didn't mention Fazbear Frights.

  • @themisfitowl2595

    Two current series that I love, are the Fazbear Frights and Tales from the Pizzaplex series that are set in the Five Nights at Freddy's universe. They are 3 story anthologies that often give a taste of the universe without being too in depth, so you can follow along even if you know nothing about FNAF, and they have some really well written stories along the way! Plus, the last part of each book follows the events of a separate story that ties the others together, and basically screams at you to collect the whole series so you know what happens.
    They are a really good read, highly recommend! Just be warned, the FNAF universe deals with dying children so don't expect everyone to come out alive in the end.

    As amazing as Goosebumps is, some credit has to be given to both the old horror comics of the 70s and 80s, like the og Tales from the Crypt, and to the Twilight Zone for inspiring countless horror and sci fi stories well into the modern age. In fact Slappy the Dummy can be directly attributed to a Twilight Zone episode about a ventriloquist dummy who torments his owner.

    Strange Matter sounds like a low-budget version of Stranger Things

  • @mackenziesmith4887
    @mackenziesmith4887 Рік тому +2

    The Strange matter books. They look like they are ai generated to me I'm not really that surprised that it's from the 90s because a lot of goosebumps ripoffs or some so far were from the 90s after goosebumps boom. But to my honest opinion most of the stories of these ripoff goosebumps books are creative but most of them usually straight up plagiarize the original stories like one of the stories in the rip off ones that said stay out of the bathroom but apparently it was similar to let's get invisible.

      I would say just try to go with what feels right or creative to you! As long as you're passionate about what you're writing and feel inspired by the story you're telling, you can't go wrong. Maybe watch or read youth horror books, shows or movies for inspiration, and maybe you'll get an idea that will inspire you to write it!

      @@lovely.5677I've actually came up something like that too though really it's basically goosebumps mixed with power rangers it's called the night club these kids who are huge fans of a local horror TV show about a host watching and reviewing old horror movies kinda like elvira or Joe bob briggs but it turn out he's actually a 100 year monster hunter who came to their town an extremely powerful evil witch he stops her by sealing her inside her own spellbook but with her last bit of power she curses him by making him immortal the night club win a trip to the studio where the show is being filmed but the witch's soul gets free from the book but because she still doesn't have a body she use her magic to bring to life the most evil monsters and villains from the movies the hunter trys to stop them but he's never dealt with monsters like them and is beaten but the night club volunteers to help because it was partial their fault and they know all of the monster's weaknesses the hunter agrees but also decides to give them a little more power by souvenirs that he gathered from his hunts and with a few magic spells he turns them into super mighty monsters dracula the wolfman frankenstein's monster the mummy and the Gillman and teaches them how to hunt monsters
      Sorry if this a long comment but hearing you guys talk about your passions made me want to talk about mine the story start out like a goosebumps story with child friendly scares but ends with cool monster fights like in power rangers let me know what you think
