Lyrics:
I walked through the door with you
The air was cold
But somethin bout it felt like home somehow
And I left my scarf there at your sister’s house
And you’ve still got it in your drawer even now
Oh your sweet disposition, and my wide eyed gaze
We’re singing in the car getting lost upstate
Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place
And I can picture it after all these days
And I know it’s long gone and that magic’s not here no more
And I might be ok but I’m not fine at all…
Cause there we are again on that
Little town street
You almost ran the red
Cause you were looking over at me
Wind in my hair, I was there
I remember it all too well
Photo album on the counter
Your cheeks were turning red
You used to be a little kid with glasses
in a twin-sized bed
And your mother’s telling stories bout you on
the tee ball team
You taught me bout your past
Thinkin your future was me
And you were tossing me the car keys
‘F*** the patriarchy’ keychain on the ground
We were always skipping town
And I was thinking on the drive down
Any time now, he’s gonna say it’s love
You never called it what it was
til we were dead and gone and buried
Check the pulse and come back
Swearing it’s the same, after 3 months in the grave
And then you wondered where it went to
As I reached for you but
All I felt was shame
And you held my lifeless frame
And I know it’s long gone and
There was nothing else I could do
And I forget about you long enough
To forget why I needed to…
Cause there we are again in the middle of the night
We’re dancin round the kitchen in the
refrigerator light
Down the stairs, I was there
I remember it all too well…
And there we are again
When nobody had to know
You kept me like a secret
But I kept you like an oath
Sacred prayer and we’d swear
to remember it all too well
Well maybe we got lost in translation
Maybe I asked for too much
But maybe this thing was a masterpiece
Til you tore it all up
Running scared, I was there
I remember it all too well
And you call me up again
Just to break me like a promise
So casually cruel in the name of being honest
I’m a crumpled up piece of paper lying here
Cause I remember it all, all, all
They say all’s well that ends well
But I’m in a new hell every time
You double-cross my mind
You said if we had been closer in age
Maybe it would have been fine
And that made me want to die.
The idea you had of me
Who was she?
A never-needy, ever lovely jewel
Whose shine reflects on you
Not weeping in a party bathroom
Some actress asking me what happened
You.
That’s what happened: You.
You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes
Sipping coffee like you were on a late night show
But then he watched me watch the front door
all night, willing you to come
And he said, “it’s supposed to be fun…
Turning 21”
Time won’t fly
It’s like I’m paralyzed by it
I’d like to be my old self again
But I’m still trying to find it
After plaid shirt days
And nights when you made me your own
Now you mail back my things
And I walk home alone
But you keep my old scarf
From that very first week
Cause it reminds you of innocence, and it smells like me
You can’t get rid of it
Cause you remember it all too well
Cause there we are again when
I loved you so
Back before you lost the one real thing
You’ve ever known
It was rare, I was there
I remember it all too well
Wind in my hair, you were there
You remember it all
Down the stairs, you were there
You remember it all
It was rare, I was there
I remember it all too well
And I was never good at telling jokes
But the punchline goes:
“I’ll get older, but your lovers stay my age”
From when your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones
I’m a soldier who’s returning half her weight
And did the twin flame bruise paint you blue?
Just between us, did the love affair maim you too?
Cause in this city’s barren cold
I still remember the first fall of snow
And how it glistened as it fell
I remember it all too well
Just between us did the love affair maim you
All too well
Just between us, do you remember it
All too well
Just between us, I remember it all too well
Wind in my hair
I was there, I was there
Down the stairs, I was there
I was there
Sacred prayer
I was there, I was there
It was rare, you remember it
All too well

"He watched me watch the front door all night willing you to come", as a father of a 5 year old daughter, this brings tears to my eyes thinking anyone could break my baby's heart...when she's 21.
This comment made me tear up in the middle of class.
Yea.
It's a journey raising a child.
Could you imagine having 6 ?
Don't worry, dad. It's supposed to be fun turning 21.
Yep happened to me watching my 17 year old watch the door all night waiting and it truly broke my heart
I'm 72 and this is the first time I have ever listened to one of her songs. She brought a Tear to my eyes, She is Amazing.
Sixty-two here and also hearing it for the first time - just amazing

@Jack Wrath I feel like you're the most boring person on earth 😌
@Jack Wrath If we do the math you're proof is 32500 times more worthless than this 🌝
It’s priceless to see her right there singing about a painful past, and now she’s much older and mature. Definitely, she’s wine, every year that passes, everything in her improves
The best lines are "you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath and then you call me up again just to break me like promise so casually cruel in the name of being honest" it just hits hard
I agree ❤
There are so many powerful lines in this song, it’s hard for me to choose just one 😭 this is certainly a contender though
@@just_cade evert line is heartbreaking but those just stand out to me for no reason
REALL is so relatable too stop
"every time you double cross my mind" is excellent too
Her voice is so rich. Her lyrics are so deep. Certain lines bring me chills and tears at the same time.
This isn’t just a song. It’s a masterpiece you get to experience.
We won't tear it all up 😭
Masterpiece? Girl.....must be a gymnast with all that stretching you’re doing
No, because how can she not shed a single tear while recording/singing this when I've had countless of tear drops already when I'm just a listener.
Because she’s over Jake and happy with her new boo 😝 they say that when you can talk about something traumatic without crying, you’ve finally moved on from it.
She is a soldier.
Cause this song dont hurt her anymore
I agree that she is over Jake and happy now, but i think at 7:20 she got really emotional
Because she is over him and has a very happy and loving relationship with Joe for 5 years now i believe ❤️
The lyrics contain a kaleidoscope of emotion. She reminisces on moments of joy only to contrast with her remorse, anger, disappointment, and wonder. It's an entire process of grief. On the surface, some may simply think it's a sad song, but listening to the lyrics and engaging with the story reveals that it's so much more. Taylor can capture the complexity of humanity in her lyrics and that's what makes her a true artist.
Well Said ! 100% Agree !!!
❤😭😢
She's more than an artist. She is poet
Poets are artists.
The tortured poets department
I don't know what to say😂
Edit: It came to my mind when I read your comment I don't have an explanation 😂
@@ymp7470 There's nothing more to say. *Tourtured poets department* .
Exactly
@@ymp7470 Literally same
The constant smile on her face as she records, it makes me feel so happy to know she's come as far as she has. And she has overcome one of the worst times of her life and she has it in herself to look back and not lament. I understand why the first version came out the way it did-emotive, absolutely devastating, yet clipped just right for the audience. This one is like a diary entry of hers, unfiltered, heartbreaking, raw. She has been vulnerable enough to put this in front of the world, we're infinitely lucky to have her 🤍
I just realized that the experience she's talking about with her Dad saying it's supposed to be fun being 21, she writes about it in The Moment I Knew. Its so crazy how the 10 minute version connects everything
Literally uGH omg
And how this is why she made 22, because he ruined turning 21.
@@starswhogame 22 is right after all too well on the album😭😭😭
I'm a 44 year old man and my favorite music is 90s alternative and metal, and I have never been ashamed to love Taylor and listen to her albums over and over. She is so much more than a pop star, she is a timeless artist who has much more in common with the folksy rock of the 60s than any pop singers. She reminds me of Bob Dylan.
She is as important for this generation as Dylan was to my generation. A genius songwriter.
She’s a storyteller too. Songs are better when they tell a story.
She is operating on a much higher level than your average pop star, that is for sure. But she is no Dylan. And she shouldn't be. She has a different audience, a different approach, and lives in different times. If Dylan were a 25 year old singer-songwriter now, he would never become popular. He would be too complicated, to elitist and too smart for our age. It is sad, but true - people don't want Nobel Prize worthy lyrics in a song anymore. They want something simple, quick, slick - something that could be listened to while taking a bath or crunching fruits in a blender. Something that will get a lot of retweets and likes on X and UA-cam. Cudos to Taylor Swift for rising above that insufferable mundanity. Reaching Dylan's heights would be too much for this age - she needs to stay exactly where she is.
Well Said & totally agree, 56 year old male here.
Yess!!! She’s a poet. And her works are masterpieces.. the music is just the way to get it out there
This is the song that made a 48 year old man like me a Swiftie, especially the last 2-3 minutes part of the song. It is a poetically brilliantly-penned, well-composed and melodically-mesmerizing song to listen to on any occassion. She is 1 in A Million!
She's the one and only in 8 billion

Wow 😂😂😂 i just memorized these lyrics
The shortest 10 minutes ever, thank you mother for this piece of art
The line "I forget about you long enough, to forget why I needed to" will still be the saddest and most ironic line for me.
You may try forget someone you've loved, but the truth is you don't really forget him/her. You are just forgetting the idea and feelings you have to that someone. Thus, you'll remember it all. But because of how time and life transcends, those feelings will change and you'll realize that things just pass. But you don't have to let your pain eat you all up though. Because that pain can be the power that will enable you to create something wonderful just like this song.
One thing's for certain. Taylor Swift, our QUEEN articulately portrays her emotions and thoughts in this song and in the end, it's the most precious thing to have witnessed.
My video clip in dubai has just been released the family❤️🎥I sing rap in English and French drill I need your opinion‼️🎶✨✨
It’s a sad love story for everyone that we can’t feel, explain, seen or observed properly. But her love story is our love story. It explained well, felt well that makes us remember about something special yet hurtful. Thank you Taylor Swift for this wonderful story. Everyone can relate. Everyone can feel. Everyone can express and tell their hurtful stories too. It’s a relief.

Truly a blessing. I love her.
heyo! I sang “All Too Well” from Jake’s perspective...mind telling me what you think?
@@ZacharyTay I just checked it out and it's actually so calming oml
I love how you can see the passion and pain in Taylor's face while she is signing this song. Who can't relate to this pain of a break-up that still tortures you even twenty years later?
I loved her more than I could ever possibly believe. But for her it was just "fun while it lasted". It's been years. "I'd like to be my old self again, but I'm still trying to find it." Taylor always nails what we're experiencing.
I am just discovering TS and I am truly blown away. 68 years old and listening to her makes me feel the emotions of a much younger man. I grew up in the generation of Don McClean "American Pie". A really long song and famous for its notoriety and how it dominated the airwaves for one particular summer of days gone by.
And her is this amazing 1o minute composition filled with emotions, longing, young love (of someone much older) disbelief, confusion, shattered, broken and it is longer than American Pie. Rolling Stones made mention of this and how Taylor Swift is a very serious and accomplished artist, who owns the rights to her own music. Bravo Taylor Swift. Not embarrassed to say I have listened to it many times, since I saw the recent Rolling Story about All Too Well!
I used to kinda like her when she sang country back in the day. I got roped back in after she released Folklore and Evermore last year.
I can relate to that !!!
Fun fact: Don McClean congratulated Taylor for breaking American Pie's record as the longest No.1 song on BB 100
Im so glad older generations enjoy Taylor Swift as much as we do. Thank you for sharing this sir :)
Welcome to the Senior Swifties Club. I am 64 and a Swiftie since Style. Now I know all of Taylor's songs. I listened to Sweet, Slade, T.Rex, Black Sabbath and so on in my younger years ;-)
i havent seen anyone talk about this but I have genuinely never been this obsessed about a song melody until the final verse of "cause in this city's barren cold, i still remember the first fall of snow and how it glistened as it fell, i remember it all too well" it was such a perfect arrangement that I didn't even notice that the song was ending. taylor you've done it again.
yes!! I think that's my new favorite part
my fav part too!!
it's also my favorite part and kinda reminds me of 'august' ending, don't you think? a melancholic feeling maybe
BRO THE LOW NOTES MADE MY JAW DROP
That melody & production reminds me a little of “Only You” by Selena Gomez
She is a living example of no matter what might’ve happened never wish it never did, everything you have gone through and will go through shapes you and makes you the beautiful person you are; Taylor is walking proof of this.
"so casually cruel in the name of being honest" - this line absolutely guts me. It's a perfect descriptor of the way my spouse of many years discarded me for someone else, pretending that he'd finally 'found his truth.' He was running scared...I was there...I remember it all too well
Unrelated to this song, but from Taylor's Mine "Brace myself for the goodbye, because it's all I've ever known" hits me HARD as a child of divorce.
My spouse used almost these exact lines after 25 years.
10 minutes and it felt like getting lost in a story rather than listening to a song. That's art.
What a process of song writing and creation of song, I learnt today.
Btw, 10 mins isn't long at all. I can hear 1 hour too. Even Celine It's all coming back to me now was 7min
@@Songs-lr4wt most songs that are longer than 10 minutes are either slow songs or chant songs.... I think only a few artists including Taylor can pull off a 10 minute song that is entirely field with words. It's like you're singing the words from the novel you' re reading or something
True fact: Taylor vocals aren’t joke. Her vocals masterpieces.
Taylor Swift is tra$h. My music is way better.

Not ONLY did she remember the first fall of snow, but how it glistened as it fell.
That's deep
The "'cause in this city's barren cold, I still remember the first fall of snow" part makes me have goosebumps and wanna cry
Super nice double meanings. The 'city's barren cold' have could meant the relationship, and how coldly he ended it, and the 'first fall of snow' (white signifying innocence) meaning how she lost her virginity to him. Or she is the (innocent) snow that fell, and how she glistened as she fell from his love and affection. The glistening snow concept mirrors the other lyric about how she was just 'an ever-lovely jewel, whose shine reflects on you' to him.

I am 63 years old and from the first time I heard "All Too Well" it took me right back to a relationship I had when I was 29, 30, 31. Each time I hear it (and I always have to play it twice) I am that 29, 30, 31 y/o again. Now hearing Taylors version, this 10 minute song I am remain deeply moved & impressed. It touches me on so many levels that it is hard to describe. I can not wait to see the short film Taylor produced, wrote and directed. The first time I heard this song was when Taylor sang it at the Grammy awards and immediately I was struck by it. IT IS A CLASSIC. I'm a boomer and when I was coming up artists were creating songs on so many different levels/genres all over the spectrum. "All Too Well" is on the order of Carole King, Carly Simon, Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, etc., classics all (damn right ok boomer). The memory of love never fades. Thank you, Taylor @/welldone

Taylor Swift is tra$h. My music is way better.
When the original Red album came out over a decade ago, I was going through a painful breakup, and it really spoke to me and got me through. That ex and I eventually got back together, and got married. After 7 and a half years of marriage, and his countless affairs and betrayals, we just got divorced in September. I knew I would never be healed of this pain; but I thought I was doing fine and holding it together. But within minutes of listening to this song, it pulled out the darkest of grief and heartbreak from deep within me, in such an unexpected way. I dropped to my knees and sobbed with my whole body and soul. It just flowed out of me like the waters finally breaking over a dam. This song has allowed me to truly and fully mourn and grieve my loss. I keep listening to it, and I keep letting that grief out, and releasing that pain from my soul. Taylor helped me through that breakup all those years ago, and she’s helping me through the ultimate breakup now. She’s helping us all to process, grieve, and heal. It’s therapy. But, most of all, this song is a monumental gift to humanity. And she is a treasure beyond words. Thank you, Taylor. Thank you. Thank you.
Hang in there. Eventually something will take it away or smooth it out. If not, time will. ❤️
Time will heal all ur wounds and I'm sure u gonna find ur own little new "love story" 😌
You're a strong woman. Hang in there, the sun will rise again
"On a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again." You'll get there, too.♥️
You're strong. Keep safe.
When she said "you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath" I felt that to my core
In this song, the most beautiful thing is that each of us finds something from their own life there. Yesterday, I was sitting in the car, listening to this song. I cried. My head was full of memories. Some still hurt today. But this song is simply perfect. Thank you for that.
AT THIS POINT TAYLOR IS NOT A HUMAN SHE'S AN ANGEL
Nah she overrated
@@cosmomcfloso5820 so what are you doing here lmao
@@kaonashi7321 ?
@@cosmomcfloso5820 why u stalking Taylor if she's overrated LMAOO
No! The guy needs to practice his empathy, so he can understand what Sady was saying, but I still want to know why Dylan decided to end it
She's not singing. She's telling a story! The emotion on her voice is so damn...
This!
She’s actually and technically singing. Don’t overreact that much, ghorl.
“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath”
Wow. That one got me. I’ve been there 💔😔
...maybe I still am
@@iancapara4016 she is our queen and we will overreact, if you don't like her then shut up
@@iancapara4016 as my dad once said: anyone can write a 3 minute song, but it takes true talent to write a 10 minute one. This is a story
As a 33 year old man, a guitar player, and lover of great storytelling, I am undoubtedly a Swifty! How can you not be when she writes so many beautiful pieces of music??
🎉
🎶🎸🎶
35 man here! Definitely a Swifty. Great music is great music
34 here. It’s nice to hear about you guys lol. Great music is great music and I can’t say no to most of what she does.
Listen to the 5 minute version. It is mainly guitar, this is mainly piano
THIS IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG. I love all of Taylor Swift songs but this one just hits me straight to my soul mostly after my divorce of 22 years.
I love how she sings it with a smile. This is from her saddest memory yet she’s willing to share with us, with proud, having fun, knowing we’d enjoy this with her. ❤️
She smiles with the scarf line!! I cant haha LOVE taylor
I feel like in this version, you can really hear the combination of old Taylor with present day mature sounding Taylor and her Folklore vibes and it’s stunning and emotional wow.
My video clip in dubai has just been released the family❤️📀I sing rap in English and French drill I need your opinion‼️🇦🇪🏴☠️
I love when her voice creaks at exactly 4:17. There's something so real and raw about it.
41 years old man and not shy to say I adore this song, simply amazinggg
“You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath.” That line cut DEEP. I’ve always loved this song, but as I grew up it lost meaning in my heart. But after the year I’ve had, this version is spot on to how it feels to invest so much time and effort into someone who never intended on truly giving you their love. It’s no longer a song about a young girl reminiscing and regretting how things ended in a relationship. It’s about a woman being completely heartbroken and picking herself back up again, saying “this was never my fault. I loved you. I didn’t lose a thing. YOU lost ME.” It’s now about growth and realizing you ALWAYS deserved better.
Literally the second I heard that line I said “that cut deep”!
😭😭😭😭😭😭 soooo truuueeeee
❤️❤️
That line floored me. This has been one of my favorite songs for years, and she somehow took it to another level.
a 10 min song, but has anyone noticed that it doesn't feel long... it's just the perfect length... a masterpiece... when she said 'break me like a promise' i got goosebumps... her songwriting skills are on a whole new level
literally
I feel you on thisss. also hello :) I sang a cover of "All Too Well" from the other perspective, check it out?

I know now, why she is so popular. This is a timeless masterpiece which tugs at the heart strings. She's brilliant. ♥️
The fact that this hits hard to an 11 year old who’s never been in a romantic relationship yet just proves that Taylor has the key to our hearts ❤

Its length may show 10 minutes and 13 seconds but it felt like a normal length song when you listen to it, I don't know what magic this is but Taylor's talent is beyond human's capabilities.
so truee
It's just like that.
Wow you are so right. I didn't even process that it felt like a normal length until I read this comment 😅
Can't stop listening to it💖😭💖😭💖😭💖😭💖😭💖😭💖
The usual feeling for a progressive rock fan. To Swifters this is amazing. To progressive rock fans, is also amazing, but an everyday thing since the 1970s. Welcome to the club.
I pray you heal from all the things no one ever apologized for.

I'm still in pain even he ask me for forgiveness 😭💔💔💔💔

So beautiful I could listen to the 20 minute version.
this woman is literally my soulmate if theres such a thing....either thaty or im just lost in a dream about her...lyrics are unbelievable and words dont give this woman justice.....best of this generation IMO....There are so many great artist but taylors top shelf...I mean shes no beyonce, or rhianna or has the soulful voice but damn she just cast a spell on me everytime I hear her music and I fall in love with her everytime....I mean her music from the begining to the end...shes captured so many artist in one...this girl is a machine and a dream come true for so many of us...Right!!!!
I'm speechless. She did it again. She surprised us again by her endless talents.
This is a 10 minute song but it doesn’t even feel like 10 minutes. This song is just amazing. I need a 30 minute version.
I need an hr pls
Me too
I need a 24 hour version.
The raw song was 24 mins
I need a 1 year version
"...and I forget about you long enough to remember why I needed to " 🙌
We are fortunate to be alive in the "ERA" of Taylor Swift.....a true creative genius.
"you kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath". the fact that this describes things from an entirely different perspective without having to use too much words blows my mind. also, the rest of the song, is like- I can't even explain this it's a masterpiece.
such a simple yet complex line - it could mean so many things to different people 😫 Also hello there! I sang “All Too Well” from the ex’s perspective, mind giving it a listen?
i feel so blessed that we can see her actually singing the song. it makes it hurt so much more in the best way bc she looks happy and the way she sings it…… she is a genius ugh i love her sm
It’s like listen to a movie . The melody guide us to the story and breaking point is so painful and the ending the slow down part before it end it like she was there for listener to tell us it’s okay.
if the world ends in 10 minutes, this is the only right song to play
“You kept me like a secret, I kept you like an oath”
That line got me

The fact that it didn't feel like 10 minutes is proof of what an incredible songwriter she is.
I was thinking this as well and it all flows together so lovely, Taylor will always be my number 1 favorite writer! No offense to other wonderful writers, but she has always had a song for every phase of my life💖
Hi i just started an album cover drawing channel
I wouldn't mind your support😁.
@𝙅𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙒𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙝 The fact that you're insecure enough to dedicate your life to throwing shade at other people is funny, I hope you get happier.
I keep coming back to this song each time I have to heal over from a heart break. It’s comfort, therapy and peace all in one❤ Cause she knew it all too well 😊
yeah this song is her masterpiece.

my heart breaks remembering Taylor was so young dealing with this and all the eyes watching every move she made im so proud of how much she's grown and how much happier she must be now
Yesssss.
I couldn't imagine her singing this in 2014
It's shocking my eyes still produce tears after crying so much to this. Still can't believe RED didn't get a grammy.
I agree. I love Red, and All Too Well will forever be my favorite tswift song. But I think because the album was sort of all over the place in terms of genre was maybe the reason? Not knocking it for that, because personally I loved it and it showed her transitioning into a new genre at the time and growth as an artist. Just saying that was maybe the reason that the industry didn't want to at the time, unfortunately.
I’m getting on in years now but this song hits deep in my soul and heart. It provokes a memory of something and someone but I can’t put my finger on it. It’s a fantastic song sung by an incredible performer. I play it again and again, as loud as I can.
First time that I've listened to this song. Taylor you are more than a song writer, you are a true artist and a gifted poet! Such emotional intelligence! ❤
