This is like the version of all too well where her heart has finally understood that everything's over between them, and her mind is again becoming happy while reminiscing the memories they had together. It's like a girl who is being herself again after getting out of a relationship that was not meant to last in the first place. The acceptance is there but the pain it brought will never be gone. This, this is exactly what growing up means.
As a 71-year-old grandfather I am not, I am sure, Taylor Swift's target market, but, because I have a granddaughter and worry about her future this song affected me greatly. I doubt I shall be there to witness it but I hope her 21st birthday is happy and fulfilled. And, as someone who used to make a living playing music this is simply wonderful stuff. Late to TS and her music but better late than never.
I hope you've checked out the Folklore and Evermore albums! "The Last Great American Dynasty" is one of my favorites that I think you'd like. As for your granddaughter... It's certainly not easy for women in any generation, but I have faith in the values of the younger generation. I'm only 35, and the conversations about consent, body positivity, and feminism are already so much better than the attitudes I dealt with up through college.
It holds up well for those of us who grew up in a different musical era, doesn't it? (I'm 58 and have an 8 year old daughter....we both love Taylor Swift)
as someone who lost her grandfather at 19, this comment brought tears to my eyes. May you live a longer, happier and healthier life with your granddaughter and may you two get to enjoy all of TS songs together
That’s Exactly what she says in her documentary, Miss Americana on Netflix. She’s amazed that people are remotely interested in hearing what she’s written in her DIARIES!! There’s lots n lots of them!

Im a 39 year old dad fighting tears thinking of my 5-year old daughter going through life. Taylor Swift, this song transcends time and is relatable to anyone who has opened up to find love. Perfect.
The pain in her voice is gone, but the pain in the lyrics will always be there. All Too Well is yours now, but it has always been ours. Thank you, Taylor.

All Too Well is THE song of a generation and yet timeless at the same time. I sing cried to it when I was 18 and now at 27 the lyrics hit just as deep. It's the song that described perfectly the helplessness of being in love, the confusion after a heartbreak, mourning for that person and who we were with them. Thank you Taylor, you made art from pain and made me and a million others feel less of a joke during a breakup.

Seeing her sing this song, her reactions, her eyes, I feel like she's not singing from a broken heart anymore, but she's singing from the memories she remembers... and even though these memories have history, it's like she's singing from a heart that's strong and have finally moved on... But that's just my opinion.
true. I feel like Taylor definitely feels the emotions for every song she writes and that doesnt fade out over time, even if she's moved on. She's found Joe now and she doesnt regret anything that happened but obviously the memories this song holds are still clear in her mind.
I love how the comment section does not even mention the man’s name. Pure taylor admiration, yes she deserves ALL the praise. that man does not deserve a shed of taylor’s shine.
"sacred prayer and we'd swear." "sacred prayer, I was there, I was there." The added lyrics are genius. I prayed for the love of my life when we were together and even after we went seperate ways because he was confused and I didn't argue and just accepted the breakup, little did he know I'm still praying at least one day he'll realize what he lost because yeah...it was the one real thing he'll ever know. In the end, the only one praying for the love is just me. Maybe not in this universe I guess, but i'll still pray for the happiness he's searching for. Hope you remember me as someone who wasn't afraid to picture a future with you. Hey Imran, I'll be flooded by other comments you won't find this, but this part of the song is for you: 6:15 - 7:00
Probably the 10 minute song that lots of people won't get bored listening to, because why not??? It's a story itself and every lyrics hit so much and you can feel every emotion. Such a wonderful masterpiece. Taylor Swift always prove how phenomenal she is. Such an incredible artist.
you can also feel the lyrics and instruments building up and transitioning through nostalgia to sadness to anger to acceptance, it’s almost like the 5 stages of grief
Now I know why she never released this version. This version is far more personal than the previously released one. In this version, you don't even have to think to know what she's singing about. This version is far more sad, far more broken-up, as it blurs the line between a diary and a music track. Years of patience have finally paid off, though. This track is what you'd usually call the album title track, because it just sums up the entire album all too well. I can hear the entire Red album in this. If I thought that perhaps, the original 10 minutes version is not going to run past the shorter version in full speed, I was wrong. This song is definitely worth crying over at least once.
i was just a casual listener to taylor and i only know her famous songs like the title tracks of her albums.. but lately i’ve tried to listen to all her discography and now im in so deep. I just love how talented and genuine she is, and how she cares greatly about her fans.. i know this girl is already big and no wonder why after more than a decade into her career, she’s still one of the biggest artists nowadays and is loved by her fans so deeply! i dont know what will happen but i think i’m becoming a swiftie ❤
My daughter turned me onto Folklore. I was smitten. My daughter doesn’t know I listened to the deluxe 3x and wrote three pages of notes. Problem is, aren’t most of her albums pop. I like the alternative pop thing. What other albums does she have y’all think I’ll like? Evermore? I think I linked her sound all the way back to the late 70s country folk pop sound.
Same. White Horse, Tim McGraw, Teardrops on my Guitar. So relatable, but just didn't explore more. Now, I'm enjoy exploring her incredible talent. She a wonderful musician, fabulous singer, amazing lyricist. Can't wait to see what the future holds for this Young woman.
“Im a soldier returning half her weight” mirroring “gain the weight of you and lose it, believe me I could do it”. Taylor Swift is the greatest songwriter of our generation and you cannot convince me otherwise. Her ability to give nods to other songs just does not compare.
Seeing her focusing on singing you can really tell that she has finally moved on, of course it's been years it was painful for her writing this song and now she's back being a strong TAYLOR. Im really glad you finally found your one.
She’s one of the best lyricists of our time, if not the best. I am in awe at how well she does it. It seems it comes by so easily. The line “And how it glistened as it fell” how the whole song cascades downward as a musical and lyrical symbolism of the relationship falling apart. At least, that’s how I interpreted it.
"You call me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest" might just be the most incredible and emotive lyric in history. It's given me goosebumps ever since I first heard it aged 12, when it was released.
I'm not even a swiftie but this THE Taylor Swift song. If someone asked me to show them a song that perfectly sums up Taylor's artistry and mastery of lyricism I'd immediately play this without hesitation.
Yesyesyesyes.... I'm 43 and certain lines evoke memories of different "lost loves". First time I heard that line I paused the song and had to catch my breath- it brought back memories of my first broken heart at 15. Taylor is a force.❤
Ten years from now, I will always remind my children how Taylor Swift songs comforted me during hard times, makes me cry, and smile. I'll always remind them that she's an inspiration to all and she had made my childhood memorable because of her songs. I love you Taylor!
OMG the “all’s well that ends well” got me freaking out… I feel like you can put every lyric Taylor ever wrote and get a testament. I think what I love the most about this blessing in disguise that we got due to her having to re-record her music is that we get to see how everything connects precisely, finding out how newer lyrics picked up on older ones and transform as she’s transformed herself as a person and a woman. Can’t wait for the rest of them albums!!
5:07 My heart heals and breaks at the same time whenever I listen to this part. Something so sad can be relatable as well. I hate how it’s so sad and I love how I’m not the only one going through this, I’m not alone this time
The main difference between this version and the album version is the hurt. This feels so personal, it's truly a page out of her diary. The fading out at the end of the song leaves us with the pain she was feeling at the time. Whereas the album version is a story that is told and wrapped up within the song. This version is so vulnerable and personal it is painful to hear just as a listener. Knowing these small details adds so much more paint to the classic lines from the song. I truly believe this is Taylor's best work. Her ability to share how she remembers it all too well, allows us to feel like we were there too... All too well
I just love that she's so happy recording this song cause it really is her FAVORITE song and it just resembles this connection between swifties and Taylor and the thing that she felt then is no longer there...
It’s like she’s now able to close the chapter after the page was ripped off and much reflection and contemplation with piecing the lyrics back together. Now we can all remember it all too well.
But I just wish her singing was a bit more energetic. Every song has literally the same vibe like she's sleeping soon. That just makes writing skills diminish and song gets boring. No hate meant. I love her 1989 and Reputation album.
I feel like most 10 minute songs don't do the latter - they usually attempt to tell a story, narrative, or just generally go about things in a somewhat linear fashion rather than cyclical. There are exceptions of course, like in Jazz, but in the realm of pop and rock, such is the blueprint for the 10 minute song.
WOW! Made me cry. She told my story. Many of our stories. Twin flames. She knows. The heartbreak. The broken promise. The disappointment. The great lie. The great omission.
When I heard about Daddy Swift witnessing Taylor's distress on her 21st birthday, it made me teary... Imagine being a father seeing your princess become brokenhearted by some guy who didn't show any care.... How heart-wrenching that scene was........ ;(
It's really difficult to keep a listener's attention for even the length of a full song and here goes Taylor making millions of people show up for her with every release. Even re-releases!! A real boss move.
My heart can’t take this. Her dad told her “it should be fun turning 21…” like….he witnessed that pain in real time…breaks me. This whole thing breaks me
Taylor is singing it not as brokenhearted but as a memory , like me all memories flashed back by only listening this 10mins ver. JUSKO KA MAMIIIIII grabe ka! haha
I'm not really someone who cries during movies and songs, but when I heard this for the first time I was sobbing. Definitely my favorite Taylor Swift song.
I just have to say that Taylor Swift is a lyrical genius. She uses words to hurt you, make you happy, make you cry, and make you turn around and hate yourself. Her songwriting skills are just extraordinary, and I feel so lucky to have the privilege of listening to her music. As a teller of stories and a writer myself, I respect her ability to wield language like a sword immensely. Thank you so much for this Taylor!
Crazy how just listening to this makes me feel like I'm the one going through the ups and downs with that guy. Taylor delivered it very well, and I'm sure she went through and handled the whole experience even better. It's a blessing to live in the same era with her.
I'm just an average Taylor-Swift-listener, but that 10 minutes were so intense. I haven't even heard the first version, but I can tell that this one was sang with so much pride. Lyrics straight from someone you can't outsmart because she really remember it all too well. The mastery really scared me, but, definitely in the best way. Waiting for the MV. Fighting, Sadie💗
@@clearlyagenius Not yet. I'm someone who knows her famous songs like those title albums, but not her every song. I will definitely listen to the first version 🙏
The way she kept repeating: "I was there, I was there" in the outro, it felt like she was repeating it just to affirm that it happened cos he acted like he didnt care about her :'
so, today I've learned that All Too Well is not about a girl trying to bury love under autumn leaves, it's about a girl who let someone bury her for love, remembering how it feels to be alive.
The ending of the song is almost haunting. Like it seems like a memory you can't get out of your mind even though it keeps hurting you to remember... So beautiful! It was so worth the wait. And so personal. Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable moment with us.
Unpopular Opinion: When Taylor was interviewed about the 10-minute version of All too well back in 2012, I was sad for her because she wasn't allowed by Scooter to release the 10-minute version. For us SWIFTIES it was like a myth if we ever hear the 10-minute version because it was too impossible cause she's working with her next album 1989. And now, we are in this moment that myth we thought would never happen is now happening. I'm crying. Sobbing rn 😭😭
This song gives me chills, this one is even more heartbreaking than the short version, I don't know how we could live without listening to this masterpiece.
I didn't think that hearing the full lyrics would hurt this much, but I will be forever grateful that Taylor can now sing this with a smile on her face.
Taylor, I just wanted to let you know this is my favorite song of all time!! I am super grateful for your song writing ability and self-soothing voice. Your music helps me cope with my PTSD more than anything else in this world! I'm Forever Grateful 4 U!
That "you kept me like a secret, but I keep you like a sacred oath" and "it's supposed to be fun turning 21" will become Taylor's new hit lines, I claim it!
The added lyrics to this touch my soul because when this song came out I was in love with someone older than me, and I dedicated this song to him. Little did I know that it is what the song was about- until now! I also ended up loving someone way older than me when I was 21 too (never learn) and that line about "it's supposed to be fun," hit me because I couldn't even enjoy my college graduation due to the break up.
I CANT BELIVE SHE HAD THIS VERSION FOR OVER 9 years and we are finally able to experience it
IKRRRRRRRRR

Wait , what man ?

It can be about anyone. It depends on who's listening.
Hey Imran, I'll be flooded by other comments you won't find this, but this part of the song is for you:
6:15 - 7:00
keep on praying. I know this feeling.

I played it for so many times. I love how Taylor narrate the journey of her love story through strong music. New fav song. I can't get rid of it.
Probably the 10 minute song that lots of people won't get bored listening to, because why not??? It's a story itself and every lyrics hit so much and you can feel every emotion. Such a wonderful masterpiece. Taylor Swift always prove how phenomenal she is. Such an incredible artist.
💜
I have listened to it 3 x in a row. Crying each time. It’s a masterpiece.
@@kimberlykuehl9461 lol I was tearing up myself. About to go listen to it again.
ABSOLUTELY!
you can also feel the lyrics and instruments building up and transitioning through nostalgia to sadness to anger to acceptance, it’s almost like the 5 stages of grief
I remember we all thought it was about Jake Gyllenhaal, do we still think that?
@@imanezattouta1804 oh yes, it definitely is about him🙌

I might be okay but I am not fine at all
i was just a casual listener to taylor and i only know her famous songs like the title tracks of her albums.. but lately i’ve tried to listen to all her discography and now im in so deep. I just love how talented and genuine she is, and how she cares greatly about her fans.. i know this girl is already big and no wonder why after more than a decade into her career, she’s still one of the biggest artists nowadays and is loved by her fans so deeply! i dont know what will happen but i think i’m becoming a swiftie ❤
welcome to the club
My daughter turned me onto Folklore. I was smitten. My daughter doesn’t know I listened to the deluxe 3x and wrote three pages of notes. Problem is, aren’t most of her albums pop. I like the alternative pop thing. What other albums does she have y’all think I’ll like? Evermore? I think I linked her sound all the way back to the late 70s country folk pop sound.
@@chadmccoy8032 yes, evermore is described as a sister record. Give it a listen. But remember, many songs are growers.
Me too ❗🤩
“Im a soldier returning half her weight” mirroring “gain the weight of you and lose it, believe me I could do it”. Taylor Swift is the greatest songwriter of our generation and you cannot convince me otherwise. Her ability to give nods to other songs just does not compare.
Couldnt agree more👌
we need a atw x tolerate it mashup hahah
Absolutely agree with this!
true
💯accurate
Seeing her focusing on singing you can really tell that she has finally moved on, of course it's been years it was painful for her writing this song and now she's back being a strong TAYLOR.
Im really glad you finally found your one.
It's such an honour to live with the same era with Taylor Swift. Her masterpieces will last forever. Thanks Taylor ❤️
IKR she’s a musical GENIUS
She’s one of the best lyricists of our time, if not the best. I am in awe at how well she does it. It seems it comes by so easily. The line “And how it glistened as it fell” how the whole song cascades downward as a musical and lyrical symbolism of the relationship falling apart. At least, that’s how I interpreted it.
listen to metallica
"You call me up again just to break me like a promise. So casually cruel in the name of being honest" might just be the most incredible and emotive lyric in history. It's given me goosebumps ever since I first heard it aged 12, when it was released.
And its long-lost twin sister: "And there we are again, when nobody had to know. You kept me like a secret, but I kept you like an oath."
No literally that lyric has always been the one to stick with me the most ❤
I'm not even a swiftie but this THE Taylor Swift song. If someone asked me to show them a song that perfectly sums up Taylor's artistry and mastery of lyricism I'd immediately play this without hesitation.
Facts
This song or Tolerate It
happiness and tolerate it are also poetic
yas and also the lakes
And the fact that it started as a completely ad-libbed song before a rehearsal kind of just solidifies your point tbh.
“so casually cruel in the name of being honest” rips me apart every time
My favorite line eversince. ❤️
Yesyesyesyes.... I'm 43 and certain lines evoke memories of different "lost loves". First time I heard that line I paused the song and had to catch my breath- it brought back memories of my first broken heart at 15. Taylor is a force.❤
Finally a long song that doesn’t just repeat the chorus for the whole time, this is a movie, this is a story. Taylor is a storyteller.
All too well
yes! feels personal
NOSTALGIC HIT😭
I just love that she's so happy recording this song cause it really is her FAVORITE song and it just resembles this connection between swifties and Taylor and the thing that she felt then is no longer there...
how could she not release any bad song, any versions will literally do I'm crying😭😭😭😭

@@clarfaciobartholomew That's fine you can't relate. Can you spell though? Lmaoo
It’s like she’s now able to close the chapter after the page was ripped off and much reflection and contemplation with piecing the lyrics back together. Now we can all remember it all too well.
8:37 don't get me wrong
The entire song is a masterpiece but the outro has its own fandom
Yes! All Too Well outro supremacy!
The best outro of all time!
Her song writing skills are no joke. She can paint a picture with her lyrics. This is like watching a movie.
That’s the country roots. They are story tellers
Exactly, She and Ed have got to be the most amazing writers alive right now
Yep!!
But I just wish her singing was a bit more energetic. Every song has literally the same vibe like she's sleeping soon. That just makes writing skills diminish and song gets boring. No hate meant. I love her 1989 and Reputation album.
@@HayDayEveryday I strongly believe that is on purpose
A 10 minute song that doesn't just repeat the chorus for 6 mins... This is an actual story told in song.
Yes, lyrics but the music is boring, 10mins repeating same chords...
@@plethondimos576you need to feel the song. She's telling a story. It is not a dance song. it's a "I've been there too" song.

The way "You kept me like a secret" and "To break me like a promise" complete each other.
"So casually cruel in the name of being honest" gets me every time.
Because we all that one person who thinks that saying whatever crosses their mind is some noble trait.

Couldn't have said it better 😭😭😭
“I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age.”

WOW! Made me cry. She told my story. Many of our stories.
Twin flames. She knows. The heartbreak. The broken promise. The disappointment. The great lie. The great omission.

When I heard about Daddy Swift witnessing Taylor's distress on her 21st birthday, it made me teary... Imagine being a father seeing your princess become brokenhearted by some guy who didn't show any care.... How heart-wrenching that scene was........ ;(

Taylor is an amazing storyteller, you get lost in her words while it makes you dream.
All I can say is that the 12 years was definitely worth the wait.

Not really united expect a conflict within the fans fighting which song should have a mv next.

Thank you so much for this Taylor!
amazing knowledgeable spot on empath, yes❤
i agree she "wields language like a sword". her lexicon is very wide.. can't find any artist like her these days.
Hate yourself? That's not healthy to feel.. i think you should consider therapy.. and I'm saying this out of genuine concern.
Well said.
Angel 😇 TEST
I think this is her best and most beautiful song. Her writing shines so much and you can feel the emotion in every word she sings. Masterpiece.
Crazy how just listening to this makes me feel like I'm the one going through the ups and downs with that guy. Taylor delivered it very well, and I'm sure she went through and handled the whole experience even better. It's a blessing to live in the same era with her.
I really need Taylor to write a movie script, she's the best story teller
She'd write the script to the all too well short film, guess that's the closest we'll get at least for now
True she really knows how to make up stories and make people believe her. I appreciate her talent.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this one vs. the first ❤️
I can never pass singing this song without getting teary-eyed. You can feel the pain, anguish and sorrow of a broken-hearted Taylor.
The way she kept repeating: "I was there, I was there" in the outro, it felt like she was repeating it just to affirm that it happened cos he acted like he didnt care about her :'
so, today I've learned that All Too Well is not about a girl trying to bury love under autumn leaves, it's about a girl who let someone bury her for love, remembering how it feels to be alive.
wow
The ending of the song is almost haunting. Like it seems like a memory you can't get out of your mind even though it keeps hurting you to remember... So beautiful! It was so worth the wait. And so personal. Thank you for sharing such a vulnerable moment with us.
Her voice is so hauntingly beautiful in this song. That's the only way I can think to describe it.
That‘s not really unpopular though - hard agree!
Why by scooter in 2012?
Hahahah she also said that she removed the 10 minute version 👀 yes….. i see it ma’am
this 10 minutes version feels like her finally telling the part of the story that she has always kept to herself. somehow the song feels complete now

Love her delivery on “and did the twin flame bruise paint you blue”. She sounds like Stevie Nicks when she says “blue” on that line. Love it
"you look like stevie nicks in '75"
I didn't think that hearing the full lyrics would hurt this much, but I will be forever grateful that Taylor can now sing this with a smile on her face.
Taylor is so open with her stories and that’s what I respect about her the most
Only Taylor who can release a song in 10 mins long without unprefection.. This is MASTERPIECE and PERFECTION.

That
"you kept me like a secret, but I keep you like a sacred oath"
and
"it's supposed to be fun turning 21"
will become Taylor's new hit lines, I claim it!
“YOU KEPT ME LIKE A SECRET BUT I KEPT YOU LIKE AN OATH”
hurts so bad hurts so bad 🥲🥲🥲🥲
All to well is hurts to bad
You kept me like a secret but I kept you like an oath.
"I'D LIKE TO BE MY OLD SELF AGAIN BUT I'M STILL TRYING TO FIND IT..."
THE PAIN INFLICTED TO YOU WAS TOO MUCH! AND THIS!! AAAHHH DAMNNNNN 🤧💔
