  • Long Compton is a beautiful Cotswold village near Shipton on Stour, with strong witchcraft associations.

Another enjoyable video. One small suggestion - spend some time in these villages' lovely old pubs. They're often beautiful buildings and are at the heart of these communities.

In defense of the imbibing half of our dynamic foursome: drunk driving laws are much stricter in the UK than in the US, so even a pint of beer may put one over the legal limit. Admittedly, the gents could take turns sampling a brew from a local pub, or even enjoy a delicious Ploughman's Lunch washed down with a bottle of Perrier; although, somehow, this doesn't quite qualify as wholly enjoying an English pub. Nevertheless, I agree that it would be nice to see a bit more of local Cotswold life, including an interior of a local pub and/or restaurant, though perhaps there are laws about filming patrons without consent. I would wager, however, than any local would wholeheartedly consent to being shown in a Costwold Explorer video.

A great suggestion, we usually try and mention the place we stop off for lunch - you may notice in some of our previous films - but sometimes our filming days coincide with the days these pubs are shut, or we're too early, so it's mostly a question of timing! We will make a more conscious effort from now though.

@@TheCotswoldExplorer Thank you for your reply. I only mentioned it because I remember years ago Long Compton had some lovely pubs! I love your channel and Robin's storytelling. He has a great gift.

    I lived there for a couple of years 98 - 2000.
Rented a flat on the top floor of one of the lodge houses on the road heading towards Shipston on Stour , and played football for the village team during that time.

A delightful introduction to Long Compton to which I've never been, but the splendid lych gate alone, suggests its well worth a visit. The window above indicates a room with a view. Is it still accessible?

I love your vlogs. Have you ever heard of a small village called Rosewood that existed as late as the early 19th century? If so, where is/was it located?

Always such a delight to see your vlogs Robin and of course the excellent support you have with Ross. None like either of you! When we consider how these villages had a place of worship, some very close, a church like this is something sadly lacking in our communities of today. The architecture and beauty of their craftsmanship is truly amazing and we will probably never see the likes again. Stock standard housing and developments are the order of the day and it is your vlogs that allow us to savour the quality of yesteryear, thank you from Andrew, Grant, Brae the Westie, Xena the Dalmatian and Maggie the calico cat, from Albany, Western Australia 😊

I lived there in the late 60's. My father was in the American Air Force and stationed at Upper Hayford. I started school there and I will always cherish my time there.

The amazing old motor garage complete with rusting 1930s fuel pump (successfully avoided), the exceptional ridge and furrow (of phenomenal depth) directly adjacent to the village, the school, the Millennium park and art, a view of the increasingly rare early 20c vernacular of shop building, the charming lanes and the more shocking story of residents on record believing in the presence of witches in the mid 21c(!); all missing, and seemingly deliberately avoided (as you were stood next to much of it)? Hey ho - nice film all the same 🙂 Thank you.

The confusion about Augustine is caused by the fact that there were TWO famous Augustines. Augustine of Hippo (famous theologian) died in 430 AD. He was North African and the furthest North he went was Milan. Augustine of Canterbury was sent by the Pope on a Christian mission to the Anglo-Saxons in 597AD. He WOULD have travelled in England. He died, I think, in 604AD in England.

As fabulous as always Robin. Such a shame about that eyesore of a cabinet next to the font! It's bad enough that unscrupulous developers ruin parts of the Cotswolds, but even worse when it's done from within! 😱 Oh Lord methinks that Trojan Horse wooden monstrosity needs to be used as fuel on bonfire night, if not before! 🔥🔥🧙‍♂
