most epic steelhead video ever.Gotta love fishing for winter steel in the heart of the coast range mountains.i dont think there is any fish that is more rewarding to catch on a fly then a wild oregon coast winter steelhead. they are the baddest of the bad.
@onbradley, centerpining is amazing for big rivers, small waters like this are more fly orientated. I work at a flyshop in souther oregon and my boss builds centerpin rods with sage spey rod blanks.
it depends you you want to feel the grab of the fish or not. for me, watching a piece of foam go underwater isnt too intense. plus spawning beds are usually too small and shallow to swing flies with a 15 ft spey. U can catch 10 fish on one spawning bed nymphing or 1 one fresh fish swinging a fly through a big pool. its preference. you've got it backwards.
A) why is there an ad for a gopro on this stating "the camera that made it happen" when gopros weren't even being used when this came out and not a single shot was by a gopro? B) i've watched this so many times n love it every time
Now this is some real fishing. Can't be drinking beers sitting on a boat for these kind of fish! Landing these steelhead are both luck and skill combined. May hook 10 fish and land 1 or 2 on a good day.
She was being sarcastic. It is completely unethical to fish over the top of a spawning bed(redd), thus her comment was an insult. Regardless, Jakob(the angler in the vid) is a great fisherman and that river is a special one.
No way are these guys gong to tell anyone what river or location this is. I have been fishing up there for 8 years now, the locals are more closed lipped than surfers in California.
@slipknotbot There's a way to mediate this issue, which has already been settled--drift fishing. Casting and retrieving hardware is a technique imported by folks from Bass country and it doesn't work. Likewise, tossing flies is for the most part a waste ot time. The real deal on the coast is centerpin or drifitng with a baitcaster. If you don't know what those are, you're not from around here. Either of those will bring in 10* more fish than hardware and fly combined.
This video captures why fishing is so alluring to those of us that like and appreciate the wild side of nature.
Now thats fishing boys..great video and a true inspiration to all of us flyfishers...
best steelhead video i've ever seen. hands down.
