What fascinates me is that Epica always manages to perform such songs in front of an audience. I was lucky enough to see this song at the 20th anniversary in Tilburg. There is no difference to the studio or like here in the livestream. Epica are in my top three favorite bands
Omega Alive was put out as a livestream during the pandemic. They found a studio in Belgium with a large enough space to accommodate the elaborate sets they wanted to use. It was recorded over 5 days to accommodate the set changes but each song was a single live take, so no multi-track recordings. There were two instances where the recorded back to back songs in one take. Rivers and Once Upon a Nightmare was recorded as a one shot video, with a single cameraman moving around the stage. Cry for the Moon and Beyond the Matrix were also one take. Well worth doing the entire show as they also incorporated a mini intro sketch between each days recordings. The whole thing is genius
At least giving Rivers and once upon a nightmare a single reaction together. Two to three songs in a time to not make it too long. Spred it out a bit for more content. Believe its three songs between the O.M.E.G.A parts of the show.
Single take live recordings are also done on multitrack machines. ALL profesional recordings are on multitrack, and you are NEVER going to get this sound quality without multitrack. However, as said that does not prevent it from being a single take, it only means that each instrument and each drum etc. have their own individual microphones, so that the mixing engineer can balance the sound.
Masterpiece!! Epic arrangement, riffs, drums, bass, vocals, lyrics & performance Part ll is a great song but not at level of part 1 and 3 Once upon a nightmare is another amazing song by the Omega Alive (as the version of Kingdom of Heaven part 3) Chef kiss!!
I suggest doing part 2 as well, that way you have the whole Kingdom of Heaven done. If I recall correctly there will be no more Kingdom of Heaven parts. Also, I recommend "The Holographic Principle - A Profound Understanding of Reality" if you want to continue with the longer songs
I think you should do part 2 as well. I don't think it's any less awesome than 1 and 3, but since its length is less eye-popping it's easy to kind of forget about part 2.
Honestly go for part 2 as well. It's one of their most underrated songs, but it's my favourite of the trilogy! It's not as flashy, but it's very well written.
I'll do mor of course, I'm enjoying this, but I'm also not in a rush, it's such a great feeling to know that there's so much more to discover. For my favorite Epica song it's a head to head between Essence of Silence and Arcana at the moment. :)
Great reaction!! I would suggest you do part 2 as well, it dosent matter to much if you do it after part 3, i just think you should get it in the package to, its not a bad song at all, but it does have a less heavy feel then part 1 and 3, and its just because part 1 and 3 is pure masterpieces, people suggest those first, and i might consider part 2 just being a great song, but it surely got quality to, and great lyrics.
Thanks for your opinion, I will definitely do it. I have no deadlines, no stress, I just gonna enjoy EVERY step and every song, as long as it brings me joy. And part 2 being not that heavy is not a bad thing at all. :)
you are right, it is difficult to write a long song so that you would want to listen to it again, from start to finish. This song is symphonic prog metal, it is quite difficult to perceive, because there is so much stuff in it. but! I think that such long and complex songs should have "hooks" - such moments for which you will want to listen to it again and then during the second and third listening this song will captivate you completely. For me the first "hook" was the moment with acoustics and the breakdown that follows it, it is done simply masterfully well! Just for this one moment I wanted to listen to it again and again. Well, and then the wonderful old-school solo)) how cool they wrote it off in that song 👍 about the second part ... IMHO, it does not deserve a detailed analysis and is not particularly remarkable. It's okay if you skip it, it is better to spend time watching and analyzing other great songs, of which the band has a lot. But part 3 definitely has to be here 😁 and I think it will surprise you even more than the first one.
You should go to part two. Unluckily no live/official video but it’s a great song, Simone really shines there. Less “bombastic” but worth take a look! Enjoy 🤘🏼
If you don't watch this whole online live concert in one go (very recommended), then at least do "Rivers" and "Once upon a nightmare" in one sitting. They merge into one another during this concert. After that, also try the Rivers version with the band "Apocalyptica", just to see how they can bring one song in so many ways.
Be honest with yourself. If you plan to stay with Epica for a long time, go for part two. If you want to see just the bombastic masterpieces, skip to part 3. We'll watch no matter what you decide. It's true that the songs aren't connected by anything more than just the general theme and their names. Part two is still an amazing song, even though more ,,atmospheric'' than the first and third parts.
Go for part 3. The three parts are not that heavy connected. All are stand alone songs. In the older albums theres secondary names to the songs, connecting different songs together im yet to figure out.
Hi KaNji! Thank you for this reaction. I was interested to hear this, because I liked very much Sancta terra, featuring Floor J. and there was big arrangements on the stage including live strings ....In this one I liked more melodic parts. Mostly I had a sight in my head of medieval backanals where some innocent is soon going to be sacrificed by hornheaded devil.. I warmly suggest Sancta terra for you, if have not allready enjoyed it...Kaisa ❤
I think everyone is free to choose to listen at Epicas produktion those songs where Floor is not featuring, especially if they think that she is stealing the show somehow. My suggestion was based to quite narrow knowlegde about their music in general, but I thought duet between Simone and Floor sounded really worth to listen with the huge effort that they built at the stage.
I think these lists are always very subjective and I don't know what they go after (technical ability, writing, sound, maybe also just marketing). He definitely is a true master of his craft. :)
Floor is my fav singer because of her versatility, but Simone has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard. Nightwish and Epica are constantly fighting my top 1. Recently The Weave (NW) took the top 1 song place that The Holographic Principle (Epica) had for years.
I think you have a good point there. Her voice is super unique. :) That's rough haha, for me it still is NW out of the two, but that's not a fair comparison, since I know about four song from Epica and didn't even get to THP. :)
I love part 1 but it always seems very fragmented and disconnected when compared to part three in which the flow of the transitions is much better. Both get plenty of plays though. Part 2 does not have the same impact. If there is an Omega Alive version of a song then I would suggest ALWAYS going for that version (except perhaps ‘Rivers’ which is a very different take on the song from the normal concert version).
part 2 is the worst of the three, but as you've noticed part 1 is not that easy to match... (same for part 3) part 2 is still an amazing song, still at a very high level, just slightly beneath the other two. so please listen to that one as well. i would suggest listening to the album versions of all three in one go, to make it even more clear that there is not that much difference in greatness.

You've recommended the best Epica song in my opinion

I like that part 2 receives so much love from you guys. :) Will do part 2 as well.
This might be my favorite Epica song !! Please do Epica more often :)
I'll do mor of course, I'm enjoying this, but I'm also not in a rush, it's such a great feeling to know that there's so much more to discover.

What a joy to see you react (yes, react!) to this fantastic song!
Please do part 2. Not the best of the 3 but still deserving lot of love. And really different from p1 and p3 more gothic imo
I think so two, especially when it's under represented maybe. :)
Verdaderamente amé su reacción! ❤

i would say that pt3 is less of a mess, but i really like this one too.
Love it ❤

Warning Simone is a Classic Soprano in Metall have fun with Epica

Can Epica be requested in their grandeur without always bringing up Floor. With all due respect thank you
I think everyone is free to choose to listen at Epicas produktion those songs where Floor is not featuring, especially if they think that she is stealing the show somehow. @@KaisaValkama I understand
I don’t understand why the lead guitarist Isaac never appears on lists of the best guitarists. I think he slays.
I think these lists are always very subjective and I don't know what they go after (technical ability, writing, sound, maybe also just marketing).
He definitely is a true master of his craft. :)

@@kaNjiXIII You need to get there!!! for me THP is the song anyone who wants to know Epica should listen first 🤘
Yes please, do part 2 as well! It's an amazing song, sadly very underrated. It's my favorite of the three parts.
I will :) just need to look if I can find the song on youtube, maybe would also be nice for a change, not to be distracted by opulent videos. haha
i like pt 3 more
Will get there too. :D
